Wir kennen seine Bilder.
Sie sind so anders als all das, was in den Printmedien davor publiziert wurde. Seine Bilder sind bemerkenswert farbig, sie sind kühn inszeniert, oft erfrischend witzig, und sie hinterfragen kritisch und doch respektvoll die Selbstdarstellung der Schweiz. In Zusammenarbeit mit Gestaltenden hat der Fotograf Ende der Neunzigerjahre eine Bildsprache etabliert, die die Reportage- und Porträtfotografie mitverändert und nachhaltig geprägt hat. So sind seine Bilder Teil unseres visuellen Gedächtnisses geworden.
Für das Museum im Bellpark konzipierte Andri Pol eine Ausstellung, die das fotografische Porträt in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Das Porträt gehört bis heute zu den bedeutendsten Themenfeldern in Pols Fotografie, an dem sich beispielhaft die Neuausrichtung seiner Arbeitsweise und Bildgestaltung verdeutlichen lässt. Pol ist ein Meister der Interaktion, der nie die korrekte Pose sucht, sondern vielmehr seine Bilder situativ entwickelt. Seine Porträts sind diesem Prozesshaften verpflichtet und zugleich Resultat einer Begegnung der Personen vor und hinter der Kamera. Die Ausstellung zeigt Beispiele aus Pols Porträtserie «Ein Tag im Leben von…», Porträts von Schweizer Prominenz, die er im Auftrag der Schweizer Nationalbibliothek fotografierte und ebenso Bilder von führenden Persönlichkeiten aus Wirtschaft, Politik und Kultur.
Es wäre aber zu kurz gegriffen, Andri Pols Wirken allein auf die Schweiz zu beschränken. Seine Fotografie ist welthaltig und mit wichtigen globalen Ereignissen und internationalen Persönlichkeiten verbunden. Pol gehört heute weltweit zu den gefragten Fotografen; er publiziert in den führenden internationalen Magazinen. Seit rund zwei Jahren, verstärkt noch durch die Auswirkungen der Covid-19-Pandemie, befasst sich Andri Pol vertieft mit der Aufarbeitung seines Bildarchivs. So sind in der Ausstellung kaum je gezeigte Arbeiten aus dem Frühwerk zu sehen, die zu den Anfängen dieser Fotografie zurückführen. Begleitend erscheint eine Publikation, die Einblicke in diese frühen Arbeiten des Fotografen gewährt.

Ils sont tellement différents de tout ce qui a été publié dans la presse écrite auparavant. Ses images sont remarquablement colorées, elles sont audacieusement mises en scène, souvent d'une drôlerie rafraîchissante, et elles remettent en question, de manière critique mais respectueuse, l'image que la Suisse donne d'elle-même. En collaboration avec des designers, le photographe a établi à la fin des années 90 un langage visuel qui a contribué à faire évoluer la photographie de reportage et de portrait et l'a marquée durablement. Ses images font désormais partie de notre mémoire visuelle.
Pour le Museum im Bellpark, Andri Pol a conçu une exposition centrée sur le portrait photographique. Aujourd'hui encore, le portrait est l'un des sujets les plus importants de la photographie de Pol, illustrant la nouvelle orientation de sa méthode de travail et de la conception de ses images. Pol est un maître de l'interaction qui ne cherche jamais la pose correcte, mais développe plutôt ses images en fonction de la situation. Ses portraits sont engagés dans cette processualité et sont en même temps le résultat d'une rencontre entre les personnes devant et derrière la caméra. L'exposition présente des exemples de la série de portraits de Pol "Un jour dans la vie de...", des portraits de célébrités suisses qu'il a photographiés pour le compte de la Bibliothèque nationale suisse, ainsi que des photos de personnalités du monde des affaires, de la politique et de la culture.
Mais ce serait faire preuve d'une trop grande myopie que de limiter le travail d'Andri Pol à la seule Suisse. Sa photographie est globale et liée à des événements mondiaux importants et à des personnalités internationales. Aujourd'hui, Pol est l'un des photographes les plus recherchés au monde ; il publie dans les plus grands magazines internationaux. Depuis environ deux ans, intensifié par les effets de la pandémie de Covid 19, Andri Pol travaille en profondeur à la réévaluation de ses archives photographiques. Dans l'exposition, par exemple, on peut voir des œuvres de ses débuts qui n'ont pratiquement jamais été montrées, ce qui permet de remonter aux origines de cette photographie. L'exposition est accompagnée d'une publication qui donne un aperçu de ces premiers travaux du photographe.

Sono così diversi da qualsiasi cosa pubblicata sulla stampa prima. Le sue immagini sono notevolmente colorate, sono audacemente messe in scena, spesso rinfrescantemente divertenti, e mettono criticamente ma rispettosamente in discussione l'auto-rappresentazione della Svizzera. In collaborazione con i designer, il fotografo ha stabilito un linguaggio visivo alla fine degli anni novanta che ha contribuito a cambiare la fotografia di reportage e di ritratto e ha lasciato un segno duraturo su di essa. Le sue immagini sono diventate parte della nostra memoria visiva.
Per il Museum im Bellpark, Andri Pol ha concepito una mostra che si concentra sul ritratto fotografico. Fino ad oggi, il ritratto è uno dei soggetti più importanti nella fotografia di Pol, esemplificando il nuovo orientamento del suo metodo di lavoro e di progettazione dell'immagine. Pol è un maestro dell'interazione che non cerca mai la posa corretta, ma piuttosto sviluppa le sue immagini in modo situazionale. I suoi ritratti sono impegnati in questa processualità e sono allo stesso tempo il risultato di un incontro tra le persone davanti e dietro la macchina fotografica. La mostra presenta esempi della serie di ritratti di Pol "A Day in the Life of...", ritratti di celebrità svizzere che ha fotografato per conto della Biblioteca nazionale svizzera e anche immagini di personalità di spicco dell'economia, della politica e della cultura.
Ma sarebbe troppo miope limitare il lavoro di Andri Pol alla sola Svizzera. La sua fotografia è globale e legata a importanti eventi globali e personalità internazionali. Oggi, Pol è uno dei fotografi più richiesti in tutto il mondo; pubblica nelle principali riviste internazionali. Da circa due anni, intensificati dagli effetti della pandemia del Covid 19, Andri Pol sta lavorando in profondità alla rivalutazione del suo archivio fotografico. Nella mostra, per esempio, si possono vedere opere della sua prima opera che non sono state quasi mai mostrate, riconducendo agli inizi di questa fotografia. La mostra è accompagnata da una pubblicazione che fornisce approfondimenti su queste prime opere del fotografo.
We know his pictures.
They are so different from all that was published in the print media before. His images are remarkably colorful, they are boldly staged, often refreshingly funny, and they critically yet respectfully question Switzerland's self-portrayal. In collaboration with designers, the photographer established a visual language at the end of the nineties that has helped change reportage and portrait photography and left a lasting mark on it. His images have thus become part of our visual memory.
For the Museum im Bellpark, Andri Pol conceived an exhibition that focuses on the photographic portrait. To this day, the portrait is one of the most important subject areas in Pol's photography, exemplifying the new orientation of his working method and image design. Pol is a master of interaction who never seeks the correct pose, but rather develops his images situationally. His portraits are committed to this processuality and are at the same time the result of an encounter between the people in front of and behind the camera. The exhibition shows examples from Pol's portrait series "A Day in the Life of...", portraits of Swiss celebrities he photographed on behalf of the Swiss National Library and also pictures of leading personalities from business, politics and culture.
But it would be too short-sighted to limit Andri Pol's work to Switzerland alone. His photography has a global reach and is associated with important global events and international personalities. Today, Pol is one of the most sought-after photographers worldwide; he publishes in the leading international magazines. For about two years now, intensified by the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic, Andri Pol has been working in depth on the reappraisal of his picture archive. In the exhibition, for example, works from his early oeuvre that have hardly ever been shown can be seen, leading back to the beginnings of this photography. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication that provides insights into these early works of the photographer.
