Mit Towards No Earthly Pole zeigt das Aargauer Kunsthaus eine Einzelausstellung des jungen Westschweizer Künstlers Julian Charrière (*1987 in Morges). Kernstück der Schau bildet der titelgebende, neue Film Charrières, mit dessen Realisierung der Künstler bereits 2017 begann. Dafür reiste er zu einigen der unwirtlichsten Gegenden unseres Planeten: in die Antarktis, nach Grönland und Island, aber auch in aussergewöhnliche heimische Topografien wie auf den Rhone- und Aletschgletscher oder den Mont Blanc.
Sein filmischer Streifzug führt ihn dabei in historische Bereiche der Wissenschaftsgeschichte, der Entwicklung kultureller Medien oder des Romantizismus des Forscher- und Entdeckungsdrangs ebenso wie in die Aktualität: den Klimawandel und dessen Auswirkungen auf das globale Ökosystem.
Mit zusätzlichen Arbeiten und Werkgruppen aus den Bereichen Fotografie, Installation, Objekt und Skulptur ergänzt, bietet die Ausstellung einen umfassenden Einblick in Julian Charrières Schaffen.
Die Schau entsteht in Kooperation mit dem MASI (Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana), Lugano, wo der Film Towards No Earthly Pole vom 27. Oktober 2019 – 15. März 2020 zu sehen war.
Avec Towards No Earthly Pole, l’Aargauer Kunsthaus propose une exposition individuelle du jeune artiste romand Julian Charrière (*1987 à Morges). Le cœur de l’exposition est formé par le dernier film de Julian Charrières, qui porte le même titre, dont la réalisation a commencé dès 2017. Il s’est rendu pour ce faire dans quelques-unes des régions les plus inhospitalières de la planète : en Antarctique, au Groenland et en Islande, mais aussi dans des topographies locales comme les glaciers du Rhône et d’Aletsch ou le Mont Blanc.
Sa balade cinématographique l’a conduit ce faisant dans des domaines de l’histoire scientifique, du développement des médias culturels ou du romantisme de la soif de recherche et de découverte tout comme dans l’actualité : les changements climatiques et leurs effets sur l’écosystème global.
Complétée par des travaux dans les domaines de la photographie, de l’installation, des objets et de la sculpture, l’exposition offre un panorama très complet du travail de Julian Charrière.
L’exposition est le fruit d’une coopération avec le Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI) de Lugano.
La personale Towards No Earthly Pole del giovane artista svizzero-francese Julian Charrière (*1987, Morges) è incentrata sul suo nuovo film, che dà anche il titolo alla mostra. Per la sua realizzazione, avviata nel 2017, Charrière si è recato in alcune delle regioni più inospitali del nostro pianeta –nell’Antartide, in Groenlandia e in Islanda – e ha inoltre esplorato topografie familiari, quali i ghiacciai del Rodano e dell’Aletsch e il Monte Bianco.
Il suo percorso filmico conduce sia attraverso ambiti storici, legati alla storia della scienza, allo sviluppo dei media culturali e al romanticismo della conquista e della scoperta, sia attraverso l’attualità dei cambiamenti climatici e delle loro ricadute sull’ecosistema globale.
La mostra integrata con fotografie, installazioni, oggetti e sculture propone un’ampia panoramica sull’attività artistica di Julian Charrière.
La mostra è realizzata in collaborazione con il MASI (Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana), Lugano.
The Aargauer Kunsthaus presents Towards No Earthly Pole, a solo exhibition of the young western Swiss artist Julian Charrière (b. 1987 in Morges). The centrepiece of the show is Charrière’s titular new film, which he started working on in 2017. For this work the artist travelled to some of the most inhospitable areas of our planet like the Antarctic, Greenland and Iceland, as well as to extraordinary local topographies like the Rhône and Aletsch glaciers and Mont Blanc.
His filmic journey takes him into historical dimensions of the history of science like the development of cultural media or the romanticism of the urge to explore and discover, as well as into issues of today: climate change and its impact on the global ecosystem.
Complemented by individual pieces and groups of works in the fields of photography, installation art, object art and sculpture, the exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into the work of Julian Charrière.
The exhibition is organised in cooperation with MASI (Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana), Lugano, where the film Towards No Earthly Pole has been on view from 27 October 2019 to 15 March 2020.
