Ellen Korths erste Einzelausstellung in Österreich zeigt einen Überblick aus ihren Serien und Büchern The Fabric of Time, The Rustle of Touch und Walks. In ihren Arbeiten wird Vergangenes lebendig gehalten. Als Träger dieser wunderbaren Verbindung fungieren hauchdünne, traditionell gemachte Papiere und Bücher. Diese Darstellung von Fotografie resultiert aus ihrer Faszination für die japanische Kunst und Kultur. Die drei Projekte sind geprägt von ihrem eigenen Lebensweg und der Geschichte ihrer Familie, die sie schon in früheren Werken aufgearbeitet hat. Für The Fabric of Time und The Rustle of Touch fotografierte die Künstlerin eine Sammlung historischer Unterwäsche und druckte die Fotografien in schwarz-weiß auf durchscheinendes japanisches Papier. Sie lösen im Betrachter das Gefühl aus, einer trüben und unbekannten Erinnerung hinterher zu träumen. Die Werke der Serie Walks entstand während der Covid 19 Pandemie. Zu der Zeit unternahm die Künstlerin sieben Wochen lang Spaziergänge zum selben Ort und fotografierte die Blumen und Unkräuter, eine wilde Mischung aus Pflanzen, die willkürlich wuchsen und eine visuell ansprechende Landschaft bildeten. Was diese Projekte verbindet ist das immer gleiche Ziel: einen Ort zu visualisieren, an dem sich jeder in Selbstbeobachtung verlieren und seinen Erinnerungen folgen kann.

Dans ses œuvres, le passé est maintenu en vie. Les papiers et livres traditionnels, fins comme du papier, servent de support à cette merveilleuse connexion. Cette représentation de la photographie résulte de sa fascination pour l'art et la culture japonais. Les trois projets s'inspirent de son propre parcours de vie et de l'histoire de sa famille, qu'elle a déjà explorée dans des travaux antérieurs. Pour The Fabric of Time et The Rustle of Touch, l'artiste a photographié une collection de sous-vêtements historiques et a imprimé les photos en noir et blanc sur du papier japonais translucide. Ils déclenchent chez le spectateur le sentiment de rêver après un souvenir vague et inconnu. Les œuvres de la série Walks ont été créées pendant la pandémie de Covid 19. À l'époque, l'artiste se rendait au même endroit pendant sept semaines et photographiait les fleurs et les mauvaises herbes, un mélange sauvage de plantes qui poussaient au hasard et formaient un paysage visuellement attrayant. Ce qui unit ces projets est toujours le même objectif : visualiser un lieu où chacun peut se perdre dans l'introspection et suivre ses souvenirs.

All'epoca, l'artista faceva passeggiate di sette settimane nello stesso luogo e fotografava i fiori e le erbacce, un mix selvaggio di piante che crescevano a caso e formavano un paesaggio visivamente accattivante. Ciò che unisce questi progetti è sempre lo stesso obiettivo: visualizzare un luogo dove ognuno possa perdersi nell'introspezione e seguire i propri ricordi.
Ellen Korth's first solo exhibition in Austria features an overview of her series and books: The Fabric of Time, The Rustle of Touch, and Walks. In her works, the past is kept alive. This wonderful connection is carried by wafer-thin, traditionally made papers and books. This depiction of photography is a result of Korth's fascination with Japanese art and culture. The three projects were shaped by her own life and the history of her family, a topic she has worked on in earlier works as well. For The Fabric of Time and The Rustle of Touch, the artist photographed a collection of historical undergarments, then printed the photographs in black and white on translucent Japanese paper. They trigger that feeling in the viewer of a murky and unknown memory left behind after dreaming. The works of the series Walks were created during the Covid-19 pandemic. During that time, the artist took walks to the same location over a period seven weeks, photographing the flowers and weeds there, a wild mix of plants that were growing arbitrarily and which formed a visually appealing landscape. These projects are connected by the same objective: to visualize a place where everyone is able to lose themselves in self-introspection and trace their memories.
