Alia Alis neuer Werkblock FLOW (2021) ist eine Serie skulpturaler Fotografien, die sich vor allem mit Ikat-Textilien befasst, einem Tuch, das als eines der "heiligen Gewebe" gilt. Alia Ali verweist mit ihren Arbeiten auf die komplexen kulturellen Zusammenhänge und kreativen Prozesse, die mit der Geschichte des Ikat-Stoffs verbunden sind.
Zusammen mit FLOW zeigen wir Arbeiten aus Alia Alis Serie INDIGO (2021), die zugleich eine Hommage an die historische Bedeutung des Indigo-Pigments und eine Auseinandersetzung mit der visuellen Wahrnehmung selbst ist.
Alia Ali // عاليه علي ist eine jemenitisch-bosnisch-amerikanische Multimediakünstlerin. Da sie siebenundsechzig Länder bereist, in und zwischen sieben Ländern gelebt hat und mit fünf Sprachen aufgewachsen ist, kommuniziert sie am liebsten mittels Fotografie, Video und Installation.
Alia Ali ist Absolventin des Wellesley College und des California Institute of the Arts. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in der Financial Times, Le Monde, Vogue und Hyperallergic veröffentlicht. Alia wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet und hat international ausgestellt. Ihre Arbeiten befinden sich in den Sammlungen des British Museum, der Princeton University, des New Orleans Museum of Art, des Benton Museum of Art, des Tucson Museum of Art, des Arab American National Museum sowie in zahlreichen internationalen Privat- und Unternehmenssammlungen. Alia Ali lebt und arbeitet in Los Angeles und Marrakesch und ist derzeit Stipendiatin des Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program (RAiR) in Roswell, New Mexico.
Le nouveau bloc d'œuvres d'Alia Ali, FLOW (2021), est une série de photographies sculpturales traitant principalement des textiles ikat, un tissu considéré comme l'un des "tissus sacrés". Le travail d'Alia Ali fait référence aux contextes culturels complexes et aux processus créatifs associés à l'histoire du tissu ikat. En collaboration avec FLOW, nous présentons des œuvres de la série INDIGO (2021) d'Alia Ali, qui est à la fois un hommage à la signification historique du pigment indigo et une exploration de la perception visuelle elle-même.
Alia Ali // عاليه علي est une artiste multimédia américano-bosniaque yéménite. Ayant voyagé dans soixante-sept pays, vécu dans et entre sept pays et grandi en parlant cinq langues, elle préfère communiquer par la photographie, la vidéo et l'installation. Alia Ali est diplômée du Wellesley College et du California Institute of the Arts. Son travail a été publié dans le Financial Times, Le Monde, Vogue et Hyperallergic. Alia a remporté de nombreux prix et a exposé à l'échelle internationale. Ses œuvres figurent dans les collections du British Museum, de l'université de Princeton, du New Orleans Museum of Art, du Benton Museum of Art, du Tucson Museum of Art, du Arab American National Museum, ainsi que dans de nombreuses collections internationales privées et d'entreprises. Alia Ali’s new body of work FLOW (2021) is a photographic sculptural series that references intertwining histories, cultural narratives, and creative processes associated with ikat. It draws the viewer’s attention to the highly enigmatic textile, and also questions ikat’s vulnerability to the historical and geopolitical implications of its production.
Together with FLOW, we present works from Alia Ali's series INDIGO (2021) which is at once an homage to the complex historical significance of its titular pigment and a treatise on the nature of visual perception, itself.
Alia Ali // عاليه علي is a Yemeni-Bosnian-US multi-media artist. Having traveled to sixty-seven countries, lived in and between seven, and grown up among five languages, her most comfortable mode of communication is through photography, video, and installation.
Alia Ali is a graduate of Wellesley College and the California Institiute of the Arts. Her work has been featured in the Financial Times, Le Monde, Vogue, and Hyperallergic. Alia has won numerous awards and has exhibited internationally. Her work is in collections at the British Museum, Princeton University, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Benton Museum of Arts, the Tucson Museum of Art, the Arab American NAtional Museum and in numerous international corporate and private collections.
Alia Ali lives and works in Los Angeles and Marrakech, and is currently in residency at the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program in Roswell, New Mexico.
