Mit der Ausstellung «Efflorescence» startet das König Büro in die diesjährige Herbstsaison. Die Schau zeigt facettenreiche und hochpräzise fotografische Werke von Lorenz Olivier Schmid (*1982, Aarau). Seine Arbeit wird hier in ihrer ganzen Poesie sichtbar. Ihn interessiert, was Dinge umgibt. Ob Pflanzenpräparate im Streiflicht oder Handabzüge auf Silbergelatine-Papier – zu sehen sind aufwändig hergestellte Werke eines erforschenden Künstlers.
«Efflorescence» bzw. Effloreszenz bedeutet Spriessen oder Ausblühen. Faserartige Gegenstände verändern durch eindringendes Wasser und die damit mitgeführten Salzkristalle ihre Struktur und Stofflichkeit. Lorenz Olivier Schmid hat die «Aura» des untersuchten Objektes im Blick – seine «Ausblühung». In seinen neuesten Arbeiten lässt der Künstler Salzlösungen auf Glasträgern verdunsten oder presst Blüten, Beeren oder Staub hinter Glas. Durch eigens hergestellte «Schattenkammern» werden die Motive sichtbar, das gebrochene Licht lässt sie illuminieren. Diesen Anblick hält er schliesslich fotografisch mit einer Grossformatkamera fest.
Lorenz Olivier Schmids Fotografien entfalten nicht im traditionellen Sinne – durch Beleuchtung – ihre Leuchtkraft, sondern durch das Ausblenden von Licht. So rückt Atmosphärisches in den Fokus und erzeugt dadurch geradezu eine dramatische Plastizität. Abbildhaftes geht scheinbar in Gegenstandsloses über. Fast so, als ob man den Wahrheitsgehalt der Fotografie in Frage stellt. «Diese fern jeden Okkultismus' betriebene Aurafotografie schöpft ihren Reiz aus der Ästhetisierung und Überhöhung von Alltagsdingen. Die formale Dekonstruktion einer Erdbeere etwa wird dabei zu einem ebenso aufschlussreichen wie humorvollen Ereignis», so der Künstler. Lorenz Olivier Schmids Arbeiten eröffnen uns durch die sorgfältig gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aus der Natur einen verborgenen Kosmos und fungieren dabei als eine Art wissenschaftliche Poesie der Wirklichkeit.
Le König Büro entame la saison d'automne de cette année avec l'exposition "Efflorescence". L'exposition présente des œuvres photographiques multiformes et très précises de Lorenz Olivier Schmid (*1982, Aarau). Son œuvre est ici visible dans toute sa poésie. Il s'intéresse à ce qui entoure les choses. Qu'il s'agisse de préparations végétales sous une lumière rasante ou d'empreintes de mains sur du papier gélatineux argenté, les œuvres exposées sont des productions élaborées d'un artiste explorateur.
"Efflorescence" ou efflorescence signifie germination ou floraison. Les objets en forme de fibres changent de structure et de matérialité sous l'effet de la pénétration de l'eau et des cristaux de sel qu'elle transporte avec elle. Lorenz Olivier Schmid a en tête l'"aura" de l'objet examiné - son "efflorescence". Dans ses dernières œuvres, l'artiste laisse des solutions salines s'évaporer sur des lames de verre ou presse des fleurs, des baies ou de la poussière derrière le verre. Des "chambres d'ombre" spécialement conçues rendent les motifs visibles, la lumière réfractée les illumine. Il finit par capturer ce spectacle de manière photographique avec un appareil grand format.
Les photographies de Lorenz Olivier Schmid ne déploient pas leur luminosité au sens traditionnel - par l'illumination - mais par l'évanouissement de la lumière. De cette façon, l'atmosphère se met en évidence, créant une plasticité dramatique. Le pictural semble se fondre dans le non-objectif. Presque comme si la vérité de la photographie était remise en question. "Cette photographie d'aura, éloignée de tout occultisme, puise son attrait dans l'esthétisation et l'exagération des choses du quotidien. La déconstruction formelle d'une fraise, par exemple, devient un événement aussi révélateur qu'humoristique", explique l'artiste. Les œuvres de Lorenz Olivier Schmid nous ouvrent les portes d'un cosmos caché grâce à des connaissances soigneusement acquises dans la nature et fonctionnent ainsi comme une sorte de poésie scientifique de la réalité.

Il suo lavoro diventa qui visibile in tutta la sua poesia. È interessato a ciò che circonda le cose. Che si tratti di preparazioni vegetali in luce radente o di stampe a mano su carta gelatinosa argentata - in mostra ci sono opere elaborate di un artista esplorativo.

Gli oggetti simili alle fibre cambiano la loro struttura e materialità attraverso la penetrazione dell'acqua e dei cristalli di sale che porta con sé. Lorenz Olivier Schmid ha in mente l'"aura" dell'oggetto esaminato - la sua "efflorescenza". Nelle sue ultime opere, l'artista lascia evaporare soluzioni saline su vetrini di vetro o preme fiori, bacche o polvere dietro il vetro. Apposite "camere d'ombra" rendono visibili i motivi, la luce rifratta li illumina. Finalmente cattura questa vista fotograficamente con una macchina fotografica di grande formato.
Le fotografie di Lorenz Olivier Schmid non dispiegano la loro luminosità nel senso tradizionale - attraverso l'illuminazione - ma attraverso la dissolvenza della luce. In questo modo, l'atmosferico si mette a fuoco, creando una plasticità drammatica. Il pittorico si fonde apparentemente con il non-oggettivo. Quasi come se la verità della fotografia fosse messa in discussione. "Questa fotografia d'aura, lontana da qualsiasi occultismo, trae il suo fascino dall'estetizzazione e dall'esagerazione delle cose quotidiane. La decostruzione formale di una fragola, per esempio, diventa un evento che è tanto rivelatore quanto umoristico", dice l'artista. Le opere di Lorenz Olivier Schmid ci aprono un cosmo nascosto attraverso le intuizioni attentamente acquisite dalla natura e quindi funzionano come una sorta di poesia scientifica della realtà.
König Büro starts this year's fall season with the exhibition "Efflorescence". The show features multifaceted and highly precise photographic works by Lorenz Olivier Schmid (*1982, Aarau). His work becomes visible here in all its poetry. He is interested in what surrounds things. Whether plant preparations in grazing light or hand prints on silver gelatin paper - on display are elaborately produced works by an explorative artist.
"Efflorescence" or efflorescence means to sprout or bloom. Fiber-like objects change their structure and materiality due to water penetration and the salt crystals it carries. Lorenz Olivier Schmid has the "aura" of the examined object in mind - its "efflorescence". In his latest works, the artist allows salt solutions to evaporate on glass supports or presses blossoms, berries or dust behind glass. Through specially made "shadow chambers" the motifs become visible, the refracted light illuminates them. He finally captures this sight photographically with a large-format camera.
Lorenz Olivier Schmid's photographs do not unfold their luminosity in the traditional sense - through illumination - but through the fading out of light. In this way, the atmospheric comes into focus, creating an almost dramatic plasticity. The pictorial seemingly merges into the non-objective. Almost as if the truth content of photography is questioned. "This aura photography, which is far removed from any occultism, draws its appeal from the aestheticization and exaggeration of everyday things. The formal deconstruction of a strawberry, for example, becomes an event that is as revealing as it is humorous," says the artist. Lorenz Olivier Schmid's works open up a hidden cosmos to us through the carefully extracted insights from nature, functioning as a kind of scientific poetry of reality.
