Cultural Relevance - und wie war dein letztes Jahr?

CULTURAL RELEVANCE ist ein Fotoausstellung über Kunst- & Kulturschaffende während einer Pandemie, über Zeiten in welchen Begriffe wie „Systemrelevanz“ die Gesellschaft und den öffentlichen Diskurs gestaltet haben. Wie beeinflussen die aktuellen Gegebenheiten das eigene künstlerische Schaffen? Wie wirkt sich diese Zeit auf die Kunst- und Kulturbranche aus, und wie geht man damit um, wenn ein Teil der eigenen Identifikation in Frage gestellt wird.
Hätte man kreativer oder anspruchsvoller mit der Situation umgehen können – oder vielleicht auch müssen? Wie gelingt es einem sich auf die neuen Gegebenheiten einzulassen und resultieren daraus vielleicht auch Chancen? Aber auch, wie fühlt man sich von der Gesellschaft und der Politik wahrgenommen? Und zuletzt; welche Lehren können aus denletzten eineinhalb Jahren gezogen werden?
Seit dem Frühjahr 2020 und dem ersten Lockdown , führte der Fotograf Philipp Künzli Gespräche mit Kunst- und Kulturschaffenden in Deutschland und der Schweiz. In diesen teilen sie ihre Gedanken und Erfahrungen über das vergangene Jahr mit ihm. Das Ergebnis ist eine Fotostrecke, welche Kunst- und Kulturschaffende in ihrer ganz eigenen, emotionalen Auseinandersetzung mit den letzten eineinhalb Jahren zeigt.
Eine aussergewöhnlich persönliche Portrait Serie. Keinesfalls nur tragisch. Manchmal vielleicht etwas fatalistisch, ab und zu auch „gute Mine zum bösen Spiel“ aber definitiv immer direkt und ehrlich.
CULTURAL RELEVANCE est une exposition de photos sur les créateurs d'art et de culture pendant une pandémie, à une époque où des termes tels que "pertinence systémique" façonnaient la société et le discours public. Comment les circonstances actuelles influencent-elles le travail artistique d'une personne ? Comment cette période affecte-t-elle le secteur de l'art et de la culture, et comment y faire face lorsqu'une partie de sa propre identification est remise en question.
Aurait-on pu gérer la situation de manière plus créative ou plus exigeante - ou peut-être aurait-on dû le faire ? Comment parvenez-vous à vous adapter aux nouvelles circonstances et les opportunités qui en découlent peut-être ? Mais aussi, comment pensez-vous être perçu par la société et la politique ? Et enfin, quelles leçons peut-on tirer de ces 18 mois ?
Depuis le printemps 2020 et le premier lockdown, le photographe Philipp Künzli a mené des entretiens avec des artistes et des travailleurs culturels en Allemagne et en Suisse. Dans ceux-ci, ils partagent avec lui leurs pensées et leurs expériences sur l'année écoulée. Le résultat est une série de photos qui montre des artistes et des praticiens de la culture dans leur propre confrontation émotionnelle avec l'année et demie écoulée.
Une série de portraits extraordinairement personnels. Pas seulement tragique, loin de là. Parfois peut-être un peu fataliste, parfois "bonne mine pour le jeu du mal", mais certainement toujours direct et honnête.
CULTURAL RELEVANCE è una mostra fotografica sui creatori d'arte e cultura durante una pandemia, su tempi in cui termini come "rilevanza sistemica" modellavano la società e il discorso pubblico. In che modo le circostanze attuali influenzano il proprio lavoro artistico? Come influisce questo tempo sul settore dell'arte e della cultura, e come si affronta quando una parte della propria identificazione viene messa in discussione.
Si sarebbe potuto affrontare la situazione in modo più creativo o impegnativo - o forse si sarebbe dovuto? Come riuscite ad adattarvi alle nuove circostanze e forse ne derivano delle opportunità? Ma anche, come si sente percepito dalla società e dalla politica? E infine, quali lezioni si possono trarre dall'ultimo anno e mezzo?
Dalla primavera del 2020 e dalla prima serrata, il fotografo Philipp Künzli ha condotto interviste con artisti e operatori culturali in Germania e Svizzera. In questi, condividono con lui i loro pensieri ed esperienze sull'anno passato. Il risultato è una serie di foto che mostra artisti e operatori culturali nel loro personale confronto emotivo con l'anno e mezzo passato.
Una serie di ritratti straordinariamente personale. Non solo tragico. A volte forse un po' fatalista, a volte "una buona mina per il gioco del male" ma sicuramente sempre diretto e onesto.
CULTURAL RELEVANCE is a photo exhibition about art & culture makers during a pandemic, about times in which terms like "system relevance" have shaped society and public discourse. How do the current circumstances influence one's own artistic work? How does this time affect the art and culture industry, and how does one deal with it when part of one's own identification is called into question.
Could one have dealt with the situation in a more creative or sophisticated way - or perhaps one should have? How do you adapt to the new circumstances and do opportunities arise from them? But also, how does one feel perceived by society and politics? And finally, what lessons can be learned from the last year and a half?
Since the spring of 2020 and the first lockdown , photographer Philipp Künzli has conducted interviews with art and culture professionals in Germany and Switzerland. In these they share their thoughts and experiences about the past year with him. The result is a photo series that shows art and culture makers in their very own emotional confrontation with the last year and a half.
An extraordinarily personal portrait series. By no means only tragic. Sometimes perhaps a little fatalistic, now and then also "good mine to the evil game" but definitely always direct and honest.
