Deana Lawson, Nikki’s Kitchen, 2015
Mit sorgfältig inszenierten und zugleich sehr intimen Aufnahmen von Bekleidungsstilen, Alltagsgewohnheiten und Wohnungseinrichtungen der afrikanischen Diaspora in ihrer Heimat der USA, in Brasilien und andernorts, gelingt es Deana Lawson (* 1979), einprägende fotografische Porträts vom gegenwärtigen Schwarzen Leben zu schaffen.
Die Ausstellung wird grosszügig unterstützt von François Gutzwiller, der Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso para el Arte und der Gwärtler Stiftung, mit zusätzlicher Unterstützung von der Volkart Stiftung und der Ruth & Arthur Scherbath Stiftung. Meticulously staged yet profoundly intimate images of the sartorial styles, quotidian habits, and domestic interiors of the African diaspora in her native United States, Brazil, and beyond, Deana Lawson’s (* 1979) photographs are unforgettable portraits of contemporary Black life.
