STAND UP! Feministische Avantgarde. Werke aus der SAMMLUNG VERBUND, Wien

Im Frühjahr 2025 präsentiert die Staatsgalerie Stuttgart die renommierte SAMMLUNG VERBUND, Wien. Mit seinen Werken der feministischen Avantgarde nimmt der größte österreichische Energiekonzern VERBUND eine herausragende Stellung in der Fotografie der 1970er-Jahre ein. Seit Jahrzehnten etabliert Gründungsdirektorin Gabriele Schor die Begrifflichkeit der feministischen Avantgarde im kunsthistorischen Diskurs.
In THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie gibt die Ausstellung vielschichtige Einblicke in die Aufnahmen von Künstlerinnen der feministischen Avantgarde, die radikal die Rolle der Frau in Kunst und Gesellschaft in Frage stellen und damit aus weiblicher Sicht ein alternatives Bild der Frau etablieren wollen.
In der Ausstellung sind rund 140 Arbeiten von prominenten Fotografinnen der 1970er Jahre – wie VALIE EXPORT und Cindy Sherman – zu sehen. Weitere gezeigte Künstlerinnen sind etwa Martha Rosler, Judy Chicago, Birgit Jürgenssen, Karin Mack, Ulrike Rosenbach, Renate Bertlmann, und Penny Slinger. Alle haben gemeinsam, dass sie ihre, aus historischer Perspektive, noch junge emanzipierte Stimme gegen die Kunst und Gesellschaft erheben.
Besagte künstlerische Positionen verbildlichen jenen Wandel, der sich in den 1970er Jahren nicht nur in der Kunst, sondern auch im Bewusstsein der Frau und ihrer Rolle in der Gesellschaft vollzogen hat.

Au printemps 2025, la Staatsgalerie Stuttgart présentera la célèbre COLLECTION VERBUND, Vienne. Avec ses œuvres de l'avant-garde féministe, le plus grand groupe énergétique autrichien VERBUND occupe une place prépondérante dans la photographie des années 1970. Depuis des décennies, la directrice fondatrice Gabriele Schor établit la notion d'avant-garde féministe dans le discours sur l'histoire de l'art.
Dans THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie, l'exposition offre un aperçu complexe des clichés d'artistes féminines de l'avant-garde féministe qui remettent radicalement en question le rôle de la femme dans l'art et la société et souhaitent ainsi établir une image alternative de la femme d'un point de vue féminin.
L'exposition présente environ 140 œuvres de photographes féminines de premier plan des années 1970, telles que VALIE EXPORT et Cindy Sherman. Parmi les autres artistes exposées, citons Martha Rosler, Judy Chicago, Birgit Jürgenssen, Karin Mack, Ulrike Rosenbach, Renate Bertlmann et Penny Slinger. Toutes ont en commun d'avoir élevé leur voix, encore jeune d'un point de vue historique, contre l'art et la société.
Ces positions artistiques illustrent le changement qui s'est opéré dans les années 1970, non seulement dans l'art, mais aussi dans la conscience des femmes et leur rôle dans la société.

Nella primavera del 2025, la Staatsgalerie di Stoccarda presenterà la rinomata SAMMLUNG VERBUND di Vienna. Con le sue opere dell'avanguardia femminista, il più grande gruppo energetico austriaco VERBUND occupa una posizione di rilievo nella fotografia degli anni '70. Da decenni, la direttrice fondatrice Gabriele Schor ha consolidato il concetto di avanguardia femminista nel discorso storico-artistico.
In THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie, la mostra offre una visione complessa delle opere di artiste dell'avanguardia femminista che mettono radicalmente in discussione il ruolo della donna nell'arte e nella società, con l'obiettivo di affermare un'immagine alternativa della donna da una prospettiva femminile.
La mostra presenta circa 140 opere di fotografe di spicco degli anni '70, come VALIE EXPORT e Cindy Sherman. Tra le altre artiste esposte figurano Martha Rosler, Judy Chicago, Birgit Jürgenssen, Karin Mack, Ulrike Rosenbach, Renate Bertlmann e Penny Slinger. Tutte hanno in comune il fatto di aver alzato la loro voce emancipata, ancora giovane da un punto di vista storico, contro l'arte e la società.
Tali posizioni artistiche illustrano il cambiamento che ha avuto luogo negli anni '70 non solo nell'arte, ma anche nella coscienza delle donne e nel loro ruolo nella società.

In spring 2025, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart will present the renowned SAMMLUNG VERBUND, Vienna. With its works by the feminist avant-garde, Austria's largest energy company VERBUND occupies a prominent position in 1970s photography. For decades, founding director Gabriele Schor has established the concept of the feminist avant-garde in art historical discourse.
In THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie, the exhibition offers multi-layered insights into the photographs of female artists of the feminist avant-garde who radically question the role of women in art and society and thus seek to establish an alternative visual of women from a female perspective.
The exhibition features around 140 works by prominent female photographers of the 1970s, such as VALIE EXPORT and Cindy Sherman. Other artists on display include Martha Rosler, Judy Chicago, Birgit Jürgenssen, Karin Mack, Ulrike Rosenbach, Renate Bertlmann, and Penny Slinger. What they all have in common is that they raise their voices, which from a historical perspective are still young and emancipated, against art and society.
These artistic positions illustrate the change that took place in the 1970s, not only in art, but also in women's consciousness and their role in society.
