LUMEN präsentiert die Ausstellung Reading Landscape?Entstanden aus einer neuen Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Museum für Bergfotografie LUMEN und Studio Image (Fakultät für Design und Künste – Freie Universität Bozen), ist das Projekt das Ergebnis eines gelungenen Austauschs zweier lokaler Akteure. Aus dem Wunsch heraus, die Grenzen ihrer Disziplinen zu erweitern, verwandelten sie ihre Ausstellungsräume und Lehrveranstaltungen so in fruchtbare Orte des Dialogs und der Begegnung.
Das Angebot des Museums, sich mit dem Thema Berglandschaft – und Landschaften im Allgemeinen – zu befassen, wurde von den Studierenden mit Begeisterung angenommen. Ein Semester lang setzten sie sich kritisch mit ihrem Studienobjekt auseinander, fuhren durchs Land, sammelten Geschichten und hinterfragten ihre eigene Rolle in dem Ökosystem, das so deutlich vom Menschen geprägt wurde. Genau auf diese Spuren, die der Mensch hinterlassen hat – der längst nicht mehr nur von außen auf die Landschaft einwirkt, sondern Teil von ihr ist –, wird in den entstandenen Werken immer wieder Bezug genommen: in den Erzählungen eines industriellen Gebirges, in künstlich nachgebauten Bergen im Mirror Room, in den Stimmen der vom rasanten Klimawandel befremdeten jüngeren Generationen. Unterschiedliche Medien und Kommunikationsformen nehmen die Besucher*innen mit auf eine verwinkelte Reise, auf der sich die Studierenden vielschichtig mit ihrer Umgebung auseinandersetzten. In ihren Werken zeigen sie die umkämpften Orte, Geschichten und Räume, denen sie dabei begegneten.

LUMEN présente l'exposition Reading Landscape?Né d'une nouvelle collaboration entre le Musée de la photographie de montagne LUMEN et Studio Image (Faculté de design et d'arts - Université libre de Bolzano), ce projet est le fruit d'un échange réussi entre deux acteurs locaux. Désireux de repousser les limites de leurs disciplines, ils ont ainsi transformé leurs espaces d'exposition et leurs cours en lieux de dialogue et de rencontre fructueux.
La proposition du musée d'aborder le thème du paysage de montagne - et des paysages en général - a été acceptée avec enthousiasme par les étudiants. Pendant un semestre, ils se sont penchés de manière critique sur leur objet d'étude, ont parcouru le pays, recueilli des histoires et se sont interrogés sur leur propre rôle dans cet écosystème si clairement marqué par l'homme. C'est précisément à ces traces laissées par l'homme - qui depuis longtemps n'agit plus seulement de l'extérieur sur le paysage, mais en fait partie - que les œuvres créées font constamment référence : dans les récits d'une montagne industrielle, dans des montagnes reconstituées artificiellement dans la Mirror Room, dans les voix des jeunes générations déconcertées par le changement climatique rapide. Différents médias et formes de communication emmènent les visiteurs* dans un voyage tortueux au cours duquel les étudiants se sont confrontés de manière complexe à leur environnement. Dans leurs œuvres, ils montrent les lieux, les histoires et les espaces contestés qu'ils ont ainsi rencontrés.

LUMEN Museum presenta la mostra Reading Landscape?Il progetto ha preso forma dalla felice sperimentazione di una collaborazione tra il Museo di Fotografia di Montagna e Studio Image (Facoltà di Design e Arti – Libera Università di Bolzano) attraverso un dialogo tra le due istituzioni operanti sul territorio locale. La forte volontà di entrambe le realtà di estendere i propri confini disciplinari, ha fatto sì che lo spazio espositivo del museo e l’attività di insegnamento universitario diventassero terreno produttivo di incontro e di scambio.
Le studentesse e gli studenti di Studio Image hanno accolto con entusiasmo la proposta del museo di confrontarsi con il tema del paesaggio alpino (e non) e si sono immersi criticamente per un intero semestre nell’argomento preso in esame, muovendosi sul territorio, raccogliendo storie, interrogando il proprio stesso ruolo all’interno di un ecosistema fortemente impattato dalla presenza umana. È proprio il risultato di questa presenza umana, non più esterna, ma parte stessa del paesaggio, a tornare costantemente nei lavori sviluppati: nei racconti di una montagna industriale, nel paesaggio ricostruito artificialmente nella mirror room, nelle voci di giovani generazioni spaesate dal rapido cambiamento climatico. Attraverso molteplici media e linguaggi, i visitatori sono coinvolti e resi partecipi di questo complesso viaggio che ha visto le studentesse e gli studenti protagonisti di un articolato lavoro di ricerca e analisi portandoli a visualizzare siti, storie e rappresentazioni di spazi contesi.

Lumen Museum is proud to present the Reading Landscape?An experimental collaboration between two local institutions, the Museum of Mountain Photography and Studio Image (Faculty of Design and Art – Free University of Bolzano-Bozen) resulted in this project. The museum’s physical spaces and the university’s mission to impart knowledge go beyond their purpose and limits, expanding their horizons to become fruitful grounds for interaction and dialogue.
The Museum’s proposal to work on Alpine (and other) landscapes was embraced with open arms by Studio Image’s students. They dedicated an entire semester to the topic, exploring the country, gathering stories, questioning their role inside an ecosystem which is heavily affected by the presence of humans. The leitmotif in the project’s works is that people, no longer an external element, have become part of the landscape itself. And so we encounter stories of an industrial mountain; an artificial landscape built within the “mirror room”; and the voices of younger generations beleaguered by rapid climate change. Visitors take part in this complex journey by means of different media and languages, developed by the students after painstaking research and analysis which had them visit locations, stories, and representations of contested spaces.
