Die Generali Foundation hat seit ihrer Gründung eine der bedeutendsten internationalen Medienkunstsammlungen ab den 1960er-Jahren aufgebaut, mit einem Schwerpunkt auf experimenteller, medienreflexiver Film- und Videokunst, politischem Film sowie feministischen und performancebasierten Videoarbeiten. Sie umfasst sämtliche Filme und Videos von Künstler_innen wie Gottfried Bechtold, VALIE EXPORT, Dan Graham, Harun Farocki, Elke Krystufek, Gordon Matta-Clark, Martha Rosler und Heimo Zobernig. Die Mediathek im Generali Foundation Studienzentrum macht einen großen Teil dieser Filme und Videos für Forscher_innen und alle interessierten Besucher_innen jederzeit zugänglich. Darüber hinaus können wichtige Veranstaltungen, die seit den 1990er-Jahren in der Generali Foundation stattgefunden haben – Vorträge, Symposien, Gespräche mit Künstler_innen und Performances – angesehen werden.
Die Ausstellung erweitert die Mediathek in den Ausstellungsraum, um die gesamte Bandbreite der Film- und Videosammlung sichtbar zu machen und grundlegende Entwicklungen der Film- und Videokunst der letzten Jahrzehnte zu veranschaulichen. Gleichzeitig unterstreicht sie die Bedeutung des freien Zugangs zu Film- und Videoarchiven als Teil des kulturellen Gedächtnisses der jüngeren Zeit.

Depuis sa création, la Generali Foundation a constitué l'une des plus importantes collections internationales d'art médiatique à partir des années 1960, en mettant l'accent sur le cinéma et l'art vidéo expérimentaux et reflétant les médias, le cinéma politique ainsi que les œuvres vidéo féministes et basées sur la performance. Elle comprend tous les films et vidéos d'artistes tels que Gottfried Bechtold, VALIE EXPORT, Dan Graham, Harun Farocki, Elke Krystufek, Gordon Matta-Clark, Martha Rosler et Heimo Zobernig. La médiathèque du centre d'études de la Fondation Generali rend une grande partie de ces films et vidéos accessibles à tout moment aux chercheurs et à tous les visiteurs intéressés. En outre, les événements importants qui ont eu lieu à la Fondation Generali depuis les années 1990 - conférences, symposiums, entretiens avec des artistes et performances - peuvent être visionnés.
L'exposition étend la médiathèque à l'espace d'exposition afin de rendre visible toute la gamme de la collection de films et de vidéos et d'illustrer les développements fondamentaux de l'art cinématographique et vidéo des dernières décennies. En même temps, elle souligne l'importance du libre accès aux archives cinématographiques et vidéo en tant que partie intégrante de la mémoire culturelle récente.

Dalla sua fondazione, la Fondazione Generali ha costituito una delle più importanti collezioni internazionali di media art a partire dagli anni Sessanta, con particolare attenzione al cinema e alla videoarte sperimentale e riflessiva sui media, al cinema politico e alle opere video femministe e performative. Include tutti i film e i video di artisti come Gottfried Bechtold, VALIE EXPORT, Dan Graham, Harun Farocki, Elke Krystufek, Gordon Matta-Clark, Martha Rosler e Heimo Zobernig. La mediateca del Centro Studi della Fondazione Generali rende gran parte di questi film e video accessibili ai ricercatori e a tutti i visitatori interessati in qualsiasi momento. Inoltre, è possibile visionare importanti eventi che si sono svolti alla Fondazione Generali a partire dagli anni Novanta - conferenze, simposi, colloqui con artisti e spettacoli.
La mostra estende la mediateca allo spazio espositivo per rendere visibile l'intera gamma della collezione di film e video e per illustrare gli sviluppi fondamentali dell'arte cinematografica e video degli ultimi decenni. Allo stesso tempo, sottolinea l'importanza del libero accesso agli archivi di film e video come parte della memoria culturale dei tempi recenti.

Since its establishment, the Generali Foundation has built up one of the most important international media art collections from the 1960s onwards, with a focus on experimental, media-reflexive film and video art, political film, and feminist and performance-based video works. It includes all films and videos by artists such as Gottfried Bechtold, VALIE EXPORT, Dan Graham, Harun Farocki, Elke Krystufek, Gordon Matta-Clark, Martha Rosler and Heimo Zobernig. The Media Library at the Generali Foundation Study Center makes a large part of these films and videos accessible to researchers and all interested visitors at any time. In addition, important events that have taken place at the Generali Foundation since the 1990s - lectures, symposia, talks with artists, and performances - can be viewed.
The exhibition extends the media library into the exhibition space in order to make the entire range of the film and video collection visible and to illustrate fundamental developments in film and video art over the past decades. At the same time, it underscores the importance of free access to film and video archives as part of recent cultural memory.
