Bimal Fabbri nähert sich mit seinem fotografischen Projekt Kaliama (aus dem Nepalesischen von kaalo/kaali: schwarz und ama: Mutter) seiner eigenen Geschichte, die über die persönliche Bedeutung hinaus zeigt, wie politische und soziale Bedingungen individuelles Leben beeinflussen können.
Im Alter von 7 Jahren kam Fabbri nach dem Tod seiner Mutter in ein Waisenhaus in Kathmandu. Etwa ein Jahr später wurde er von einer italienischen Familie adoptiert. Als Erwachsener begibt sich Fabbri auf Spurensuche und findet nach mehr als zwanzig Jahren sein Geburtsdorf und einen Teil seiner biologischen Familie wieder.
Der Künstler nutzt die Fotografie hier zur Innensicht, Klärung der eigenen Identität und stellt konzeptionelle Fragen zum Umgang mit Erinnerung. Metaphern gleich setzt Fabbri seine Sujets ins Bild. "Kaliama" ist ein Narrativ aus Eindrücken, die auf Gefühle verweisen, auf die des Kindes und auf die des erwachsenen, suchenden Zurückkehrenden.
Avec son projet photographique Kaliama (du népalais kaalo/kaali : noir et ama : mère), Bimal Fabbri se rapproche de sa propre histoire qui, au-delà de sa signification personnelle, montre comment les conditions politiques et sociales peuvent influencer les vies individuelles.
À l'âge de sept ans, Fabbri a été placé dans un orphelinat de Katmandou après le décès de sa mère. Environ un an plus tard, il a été adopté par une famille italienne. Devenu adulte, Fabbri part à la recherche de ses traces et retrouve, plus de vingt ans plus tard, son village natal et une partie de sa famille biologique.
L'artiste utilise ici la photographie pour une vision intérieure, une clarification de sa propre identité et transmet des questions conceptuelles sur le traitement de la mémoire. Fabbri met ses sujets en visuel à la manière de métaphores. "Kaliama" est un récit fait d'impressions qui renvoient à des sentiments, à ceux de l'enfant et à ceux de l'adulte qui revient et qui cherche.
Con il progetto fotografico Kaliama (dal nepalese kaalo/kaali: nero e ama: madre), Bimal Fabbri esplora la propria storia, che va oltre il significato personale per mostrare come le condizioni politiche e sociali possano influenzare le vite individuali.
All'età di 7 anni, Fabbri fu mandato in un orfanotrofio di Kathmandu dopo la morte della madre. Circa un anno dopo, fu adottato da una famiglia italiana. Da adulto, Fabbri ha intrapreso una ricerca di indizi e, dopo più di vent'anni, ha ritrovato il suo villaggio natale e parte della sua famiglia biologica.
Qui l'artista usa la fotografia per guardare dentro di sé, chiarire la propria identità e porre domande concettuali su come affrontare la memoria. Fabbri utilizza metafore per rappresentare i suoi soggetti. "Kaliama" è una narrazione di impressioni che rimandano ai sentimenti, quelli del bambino e quelli dell'adulto, alla ricerca del ritorno.
With his photographic project Kaliama (from the Nepalese kaalo/kaali: black and ama: mother), Bimal Fabbri approaches his own story, which goes beyond personal significance to show how political and social conditions can influence individual lives.
At the age of 7, Fabbri was sent to an orphanage in Kathmandu after the death of his mother. About a year later, he was adopted by an Italian family. As an adult, Fabbri embarked on a search for clues and, after more than twenty years, found his birth village and part of his biological family again.
Here, the artist uses photography to look inside himself, clarify his own identity and pose conceptual questions about how to deal with memory. Fabbri places his subjects in the visuals like metaphors. "Kaliama" is a narrative of impressions that refer to feelings, those of the child and those of the adult, searching returnee.
