Ein zentrales Anliegen des französisch-schweizerischen Künstlers Julian Charrière ist es aufzuzeigen, wie stark der Mensch und seine Umwelt miteinander verwoben sind und sich gegenseitig beeinflussen. In einer umfassenden Einzelausstellung im Museum Tinguely zeigt er Fotografien, Skulpturen, Installationen und neue Videoarbeiten, die sich mit unserer Beziehung zur Erde als einer Welt des Wassers auseinandersetzen – einem Element, das in Form von Meeren, Seen und Eis den grössten Teil unseres Planeten bedeckt. Es bietet für unzählige Organismen einen Lebensraum, in dem sich zirkuläre Ökosysteme ausgebildet haben, die für die Stabilität des Klimas von entscheidender Bedeutung sind.
Im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung Midnight Zone, die sich über drei Stockwerke erstreckt, stehen submarine Ökosysteme – vom lokal präsenten und einflussreichen Rhein bis hin zu fernen Ozeanen –, anhand derer sich die Komplexität des Elements Wassers erschliesst, das durch menschliche Einwirkungen erheblich beeinträchtigt wird. Die Einzelausstellung untersucht den Kreislauf des Wassers und dessen Materialität, seine Tiefen und die mit ihm verknüpften politischen Aspekte, seine alltäglichen und sakralen Dimensionen. Vor den Besuchenden entfaltet sich ein Kaleidoskop, das dazu einlädt, tief einzutauchen.

Une des préoccupations centrales de l’artiste franco-suisse Julian Charrière est la question de savoir comment l’homme habite le monde et comment celui-ci nous habite à son tour. Dans le cadre d’une vaste exposition individuelle, le Musée Tinguely présente des photographies, des sculptures, des installations et de nouvelles œuvres vidéo qui traitent de notre relation à la Terre en tant que monde de l’eau – cet élément qui recouvre la majeure partie de notre planète, avec ses mers, ses lacs et ses glaces, à la fois habitat d’une myriade d’organismes et hôte de systèmes circulatoires essentiels à la stabilité de notre climat.
Déployée sur trois étages, l’exposition Midnight Zone explore les écologies sous-marines, de l’influence locale du Rhin aux océans lointains, tout en analysant la complexité de l’eau en tant que milieu élémentaire affecté par les altérations anthropiques. Par la réflexion qu’elle mène sur le flux et la matérialité de l’eau, sur sa profondeur et ses implications politiques, sur ses dimensions à la fois profanes et sacrées, cette exposition personnelle agit comme un kaléidoscope et nous invite à nous immerger pleinement.

Uno dei temi centrali dell'opera dell'artista franco-svizzero Julian Charrière è quello di mostrare quanto l'uomo e l'ambiente siano strettamente interconnessi e si influenzino a vicenda. In una vasta mostra personale al Museo Tinguely, espone fotografie, sculture, installazioni e nuovi lavori video che esplorano il nostro rapporto con la Terra come mondo dell'acqua, un elemento che, sotto forma di mari, laghi e ghiacci, ricopre la maggior parte del nostro pianeta. Essa offre un habitat a innumerevoli organismi, in cui si sono formati ecosistemi circolari fondamentali per la stabilità del clima.
Al centro della mostra Midnight Zone, che si sviluppa su tre piani, vi sono gli ecosistemi sottomarini – dal Reno, presente e influente a livello locale, agli oceani lontani – attraverso i quali si svela la complessità dell'elemento acqua, fortemente compromesso dall'impatto umano. La mostra personale esplora il ciclo dell'acqua e la sua materialità, le sue profondità e gli aspetti politici ad essa legati, le sue dimensioni quotidiane e sacre. Davanti ai visitatori si dispiega un caleidoscopio che invita a immergersi in profondità.

A core concern of French-Swiss artist Julian Charrière is how human beings inhabit the world and how the world, in turn, inhabits us. The comprehensive solo exhibition at Museum Tinguely presents photographs, sculptures, installations and new video works that deal with our relationship to Earth as a world of water—a liquidity that covers most of our planet with seas, lakes and ice, both habitat for a myriad of organisms and host to circulatory systems critical for the stability of our climate.
Unfolding over three floors, the exhibition Midnight Zone engages with underwater ecologies, from the influential local presence of the Rhine to distant oceans, exploring the complexity of water as an elemental medium affected by anthropogenic degradation. Reflecting upon its flow and materiality, profundity and politics, its mundane and sacral dimensions, the solo show acts as a kaleidoscope, inviting us to dive deep.
