Anlässlich ihres 20. Jubiläums freut sich die Robert Morat Galerie sehr, die erste deutsche Einzelausstellung der britischen Künstlerin Hannah Hughes zu zeigen.
Hannah Hughes ist eine crossmedial arbeitende Künstlerin, die sich mit Fotografie, Collage und Objektkunst beschäftigt. Ihre Arbeit erforscht die Beziehung zwischen Bild, Skulptur und Sprache, wobei sie sich auf das Potenzial des negativen Raums und die Bergung sowie Wiederverwendung von weggeworfenen Materialien konzentriert. Hughes’ Praxis beinhaltet Strategien der Fragmentierung und Rekonstruktion. Ihre zweidimensionalen Collagen werden oft als flache Skulpturen oder skulpturale Fotografien beschrieben.
Hannah Hughes verwendet Materialien, die an alltägliche Berührungen erinnern, z. B. das Papier von Hochglanzmagazinen, Zellstoffverpackungen und Ton. Dieser Fokus auf die Taktilität positioniert die Arbeit in Bezug auf die Grenzen des Körpers und die Räume, die dort entstehen, wo sich Körper mit ihrer Umgebung überschneiden. Sie untersucht die Ränder innerhalb des fotografischen Bildes – in ihrer Serie von C-Type-Collagen beispielsweise überschneidet eine Form die Oberfläche einer anderen, wodurch eine sichtbare Grenze innerhalb der Fotografie entsteht, die von der Seite aus vollständig betrachtet werden kann.
Hannah Hughes (*1975, GB) schloss 1997 ihr Studium an der University of Brighton ab und hat seitdem sowohl im Vereinigten Königreich als auch international ausgestellt. Sie lebt und arbeitet in London.

Hannah Hughes est une artiste cross-média qui travaille avec la photographie, le collage et l'art des objets. Son travail explore la relation entre l'image, la sculpture et le langage, en se concentrant sur le potentiel de l'espace négatif et sur la récupération et la réutilisation de matériaux jetés. La pratique de Hughes implique des stratégies de fragmentation et de reconstruction. Ses collages bidimensionnels sont souvent décrits comme des sculptures plates ou des photographies sculpturales.
Hannah Hughes utilise des matériaux qui rappellent le toucher quotidien, par exemple le papier des magazines sur papier glacé, les emballages en cellulose et l'argile. Cette focalisation sur la tactilité positionne le travail par rapport aux limites du corps et aux espaces qui se créent là où les corps se croisent avec leur environnement. Elle explore les bords à l'intérieur de l'image photographique - dans sa série de collages de type C, par exemple, une forme chevauche la surface d'une autre, créant ainsi une frontière visible à l'intérieur de la photographie, qui peut être entièrement observée depuis le côté.
Hannah Hughes (*1975, GB) a été diplômée de l'université de Brighton en 1997 et a depuis exposé au Royaume-Uni et à l'étranger. Elle vit et travaille à Londres.

Hannah Hughes è un'artista crossmediale che lavora con la fotografia, il collage e l'arte degli oggetti. Il suo lavoro esplora il rapporto tra immagine, scultura e linguaggio, concentrandosi sul potenziale dello spazio negativo e sul recupero e riutilizzo di materiali di scarto. La pratica di Hughes incorpora strategie di frammentazione e ricostruzione. I suoi collage bidimensionali sono spesso descritti come sculture piatte o fotografie scultoree.
Hannah Hughes utilizza materiali che ricordano il tatto quotidiano, come la carta delle riviste patinate, gli imballaggi in pasta e l'argilla. Celebrating its 20. anniversary, Robert Morat Galerie is very happy to be able to present the first German solo exhibition for British artist Hannah Hughes.
Hannah Hughes is a visual artist working in photography, collage, and sculpture. Her work explores the relationship between image, object and language, focusing on the potential of negative space and the salvaging and re-use of discarded materials. Hughes’s practice involves strategies of fragmentation and reconstruction. Her two-dimensional collages are often described as either flat sculptures or sculptural photographs.
Hannah Hughes uses materials that invite the memory of the everyday touch, such as paper stocks used in glossy magazines, pulp packaging, and clay. This focus on tactility positions the work in relation to the body's boundaries and the spaces created where bodies intersect with their surroundings. She examines edges within the photographic image – for example, in her series of two-part C-Type collages, one form intersects the surface of another, creating a visible border within the photograph, which can be viewed fully from the side.
Hannah Hughes (*1975, UK) graduated from the University of Brighton in 1997 and has since exhibited in the UK and internationally. She lives and works in London.
