Das Fotomuseum Winterthur nimmt die 30-jährige Institutionsgeschichte zum Anlass, die eigene Sammlung zu beleuchten: Exemplarische Werke aus der Sammlung geben einen Einblick in die Sammlungstätigkeit des Museums. Es werden die Arbeiten von insgesamt 19 unterschiedlichen Fotograf_innen und Kunstschaffenden gezeigt – darunter bekannte Namen wie auch Neuentdeckungen.
Im Fokus der Ausstellung stehen die Eigen- und Besonderheiten der Sammlung sowie deren Schwerpunkte, aber auch Fragestellungen zur musealen Sammlungspraxis an und für sich. Zudem sind die Lücken und Leerstellen, welche sich durch die kritische Betrachtung der eigenen Sammlung offenbaren, sowie Werke, die das Museum vor Herausforderungen stellen, Bestandteil der Auseinandersetzung.
Die nicht-lineare Präsentation der Ausstellung zeigt auf, dass eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Faktoren die (Weiter-)Entwicklung einer Sammlung beeinflussen. Dazu gehören das Ausstellungsprogramm, inhaltliche Schwerpunkte und kuratorische Interessen, gesellschaftliche Fragestellungen aber auch die Entwicklung fotografischer Medien und Praktiken.
Sowohl im Ausstellungsraum als auch über ein vielfältiges Veranstaltungsprogramm gibt das Fotomuseum Winterthur Einblicke in Aspekte wie den Entstehungsprozess oder die Pflege der eigenen Sammlung. Der Sammlung zugeneigt bietet eine Alternative zur klassischen Sammlungsausstellung und bringt nicht zuletzt eine institutionelle Haltung zum Ausdruck: Das Fotomuseum Winterthur ist durchaus (selbst-)kritisch – und dennoch der eigenen Sammlung zugeneigt.
Konstellation 1 bildet den Auftakt einer Serie von Sammlungspräsentationen, die aufeinander aufbauen und für unterschiedliche internationale Gastorte konzipiert werden.

L'exposition met l'accent sur les particularités et les spécificités de la collection ainsi que sur ses points forts, mais aussi sur des questions relatives à la pratique muséale de la collection en soi et pour soi. En outre, les lacunes et les vides révélés par l'examen critique de la propre collection, ainsi que les œuvres qui transmettent des défis au musée, font partie intégrante de la réflexion.
La présentation non linéaire de l'exposition montre qu'une multitude de facteurs différents influencent le développement (continu) d'une collection. En font partie le programme d'exposition, les priorités en matière de contenu et les intérêts des conservateurs, les questions de société, mais aussi l'évolution des médias et des pratiques photographiques.
Tant dans l'espace d'exposition que par le biais d'un programme varié de manifestations, le Fotomuseum Winterthur donne un aperçu d'aspects tels que le processus de création ou l'entretien de sa propre collection. La collection offre une alternative à l'exposition classique des collections et exprime notamment une attitude institutionnelle : le Fotomuseum Winterthur est tout à fait (auto)critique - et néanmoins attaché à sa propre collection.
Constellation 1 marque le début d'une série de présentations de la collection qui se suivent et sont conçues pour différents lieux d'accueil internationaux.

Sono esposte le opere di un totale di 19 diversi fotografi e artisti, tra cui nomi noti e nuove scoperte.
La mostra si concentra sulle caratteristiche uniche e speciali della collezione e sui suoi punti focali, nonché sulle questioni relative alla pratica del collezionismo museale in sé e per sé. Inoltre, le lacune e i vuoti che si rivelano attraverso un esame critico della collezione del museo, così come le opere che rappresentano una sfida per il museo, sono parte della discussione.
La presentazione non lineare della mostra dimostra che una serie di fattori diversi influenzano lo sviluppo (ulteriore) di una collezione. Tra questi, il programma espositivo, le tematiche e gli interessi curatoriali, le questioni sociali, ma anche lo sviluppo dei media e delle pratiche fotografiche.
Sia nello spazio espositivo che attraverso un variegato programma di eventi, il Fotomuseum Winterthur fornisce approfondimenti su aspetti quali il processo di creazione o la cura della propria collezione. La mostra "La collezione è nostra" offre un'alternativa alla classica esposizione di collezioni e, non da ultimo, esprime un atteggiamento istituzionale: il Fotomuseum Winterthur è assolutamente (auto)critico - e tuttavia devoto alla propria collezione.
Constellation 1 segna l'inizio di una serie di presentazioni della collezione che si sviluppano l'una sull'altra e sono concepite per diverse sedi internazionali.
Fotomuseum Winterthur is taking the opportunity presented by the institution’s thirtieth anniversary to examine its own collection, with a selection of artworks providing an insight into the museum’s collecting activities. On display are works by a total of 19 different photographers and artists, a mix of well-known names and new discoveries.
The exhibition homes in on the collection’s idiosyncrasies, distinctive qualities and thematic focuses, while also scrutinising museum collecting practices per se. This probing of the collection also looks at gaps and lacunae that are made apparent by the museum’s critical self-assessment and at works that are institutionally challenging.
The non-linear way in which the exhibition is presented highlights the fact that the (progressive) development of a collection is influenced by a variety of different factors. These include the exhibition programme, thematic focuses, curatorial interests, social issues and photography’s own process of evolution as a medium and body of practices.
Both in the exhibition space and through a varied programme of events, the museum provides insights into, among other things, its own origins and the way it cares for its collection. A Show of Affection offers an alternative to the classical collection exhibition and is, not least, an expression of an institutional approach: Fotomuseum Winterthur is eminently (self-)critical – and yet still has a sense of affection for its own collection.
Collection Constellation 1 marks the beginning of a series of collection presentations that build on one another and are conceived for different international venues.
