Broder l'invisible (Das Unsichtbare besticken) ist die erste Ausstellung von Carolle Bénitah in der Galerie. Anhand einer großen Auswahl von Exponaten nimmt diese Ausstellung einen ausgesprochen intimen Standpunkt ein, ein zentraler Begriff im Schaffen der Künstlerin. Seit den 2000er Jahren entwickelt Carolle Bénitah ihre künstlerische Praxis rund um das Medium Fotografie, wobei sie ihr Rohmaterial aus ihren persönlichen Archiven schöpft. Sie hinterfragt ihre individuelle und familiäre Geschichte in einer ständigen Identitätssuche. Ihre Praxis ist stark kathartisch und das Echo einer starken Introspektion, die die Begriffe Verlust, Trauer und Vergessen in Frage stellt.
Die Beziehung der Künstlerin zur Fotografie, sowohl materiell als auch zeitlich, drückt sich in direkten Eingriffen in das Medium aus. Durch Sticken, Zeichnen oder das Auflegen von Blattgold auf das Medium verleiht der Künstler seinen Stücken einen skulpturalen Wert mit starker haptischer Wirkung. Carolle Bénitah ist sowohl Fotografin als auch bildende Künstlerin und überschreitet die Grenzen des Mediums Fotografie.
Die Fotografien sind die Spuren unserer Existenz ebenso wie die unserer Beziehungen zu anderen. Die Zeit, die Carolle Bénitah mit der Ausarbeitung ihrer Werke verbringt, ermöglicht es ihr, sich dessen bewusst zu werden, was diese Bilder über sie selbst sagen oder verschweigen. Es geht ihr darum, sich ihre Geschichte wieder anzueignen, um zu verstehen, wer sie jetzt ist.
Broder l’invisible est la première exposition de Carolle Bénitah à la galerie. À travers une large sélection de pièces, cette exposition adopte un point de vue éminemment intimiste, une notion centrale dans la démarche de l’artiste. Depuis les années 2000, Carolle Bénitah élabore sa pratique artistique autour du médium photographique, puisant sa matière première dans ses archives personnelles. Elle questionne son histoire individuelle et familiale dans une perpétuelle quête identitaire. Hautement cathartique, la pratique de cette dernière se fait l’écho d’une forte introspection mettant en question les notions de perte, de deuil et d’oubli.
Le rapport qu’entretient l’artiste à la photographie, tant matérielle que temporelle, s’exprime par des interventions directes sur le médium. C’est en brodant, dessinant ou encore en juxtaposant des feuilles d’or sur celui-ci que l’artiste insuffle à ses pièces une valeur sculpturale au fort pouvoir haptique. À la fois photographe et plasticienne, Carolle Bénitah dépasse les frontières du médium photographique.
Les photographies sont les traces de notre existence autant que celles de nos relations aux autres. Le temps que passe Carolle Bénitah à élaborer ses oeuvres lui permet de prendre conscience de ce que ces images disent ou taisent d’elle-même. Il est question pour elle de se réapproprier son histoire afin de comprendre qui elle est à présent.
Ricamare l'invisibile è la prima mostra di Carolle Bénitah presso la galleria. Attraverso un'ampia selezione di opere, questa mostra adotta un punto di vista eminentemente intimo, una nozione centrale nell'approccio dell'artista. Dal 2000, Carolle Bénitah ha sviluppato la sua pratica artistica intorno al mezzo fotografico, attingendo la materia prima dai suoi archivi personali. Si interroga sulla sua storia individuale e familiare in una perenne ricerca di identità. Altamente catartica, la sua pratica riecheggia una forte introspezione che mette in discussione le nozioni di perdita, lutto e oblio.
Il rapporto dell'artista con la fotografia, sia materiale che temporale, si esprime attraverso interventi diretti sul mezzo. Ricamando, disegnando o accostando la foglia d'oro al supporto, l'artista conferisce alle sue opere un valore scultoreo con un forte potere tattile. Fotografa e artista visiva, Carolle Bénitah va oltre i confini del mezzo fotografico.
Le fotografie sono le tracce della nostra esistenza e delle nostre relazioni con gli altri. Il tempo che Carolle Bénitah dedica al suo lavoro le permette di prendere coscienza di ciò che queste immagini dicono o nascondono di sé. Si tratta per lei di riappropriarsi della sua storia per capire chi è ora.
Broder l'invisible is Carolle Bénitah's inaugural exhibition at the gallery. Through a vast selection of works, the gallery presents a landscape steeped in intimacy, a key notion of Bénitah's practice. Since the 2000s, her work has built around the photographic medium, sourcing material from her personal archive, questioning her individual and family history in a perpetual quest for identity. Highly cathartic, it echoes a deep introspection, interrogating notions of loss, grief and memory.
The artist's relationship to photography, both material and temporal, is expressed in direct interventions onto the medium's surface. By embroidering, drawing, and at times juxtaposing layers of gold leaf over it, Bénitah instils a sculptural and haptic sense into these works. As a transdisciplinary artist, Carolle Bénitah moves beyond the traditional boundaries of photography.
Photographs trace our existence as much as our relationship to the other. For Bénitah, time spent elaborating her works allows her to realize what is said or silenced in these images — a means of reappropriating her past to better grasp her present self.
