Berlin - Venedig - Monschau. Illusionen

Zum zweiten Mal vergeben die StädteRegion Aachen und das Fotografie-Forum ein Künstlerstipendium für ein Projekt, das sich künstlerisch mit der Geschichte und Tradition Monschaus befasst. In diesem Jahr sind die Stipendiaten die Fotografin Katharina John und ihr Mann, der Schauspieler und Musiker Ulrich Tukur. Beide befassen sich auf unterschiedliche Weise mit drei besonderen Städten, Orten, die Besucher aus aller Welt anziehen. Was ist eigentlich die eigene Identität der jeweiligen Stadt? Ist Venedig zu einer Art Museum geworden? Was steckt hinter den geputzten Fassaden von Monschau? Und wo verbirgt sich hinter all den verschiedenen Kulturen, die in Berlin sichtbar sind, die eigene Seele dieser Stadt? Es ist allen drei Städten gemein, dass sie Sehnsuchtsorte sind, die dem Durchreisenden eine Illusion von Heimat und Authentizität geben. Eine Art „Vergnügungspark“ mit Geschichte? Was ist Illusion und was ist echt? Und wollen wir das Echte überhaupt sehen?
All das sind Fragen, die Katharina John mit ihren Bildern stellen möchte. Die fotografischen Porträts der drei Städte werden durch Texte und Tonaufnahmen von Ulrich Tukur ergänzt.
Pour la deuxième fois, la région urbaine d'Aix-la-Chapelle et le Fotografie-Forum décernent une bourse d'artiste pour un projet qui traite artistiquement de l'histoire et de la tradition de Monschau. Cette année, les boursiers sont la photographe Katharina John et son mari, l'acteur et musicien Ulrich Tukur. Tous deux s'intéressent de manière différente à trois villes particulières, des lieux qui attirent des visiteurs du monde entier. Quelle est en fait l'identité propre de chaque ville ? Venise est-elle devenue une sorte de musée ? Qu'est-ce qui se cache derrière les façades crépies de Monschau ? Et où se cache l'âme propre de cette ville derrière toutes les différentes cultures visibles à Berlin ? Les trois villes ont en commun d'être des lieux de nostalgie qui donnent au voyageur de passage l'illusion d'une patrie et d'une authenticité. Une sorte de "parc d'attractions" avec une histoire ? Qu'est-ce qui est illusion et qu'est-ce qui est réel ? Et voulons-nous vraiment voir le vrai ?
Ce sont toutes ces questions que Katharina John souhaite poser avec ses visuels. Les portraits photographiques des trois villes sont complétés par des textes et des enregistrements sonores d'Ulrich Tukur.
Per la seconda volta, la StädteRegion Aachen e il Fotografie-Forum assegnano una borsa di studio per un progetto che tratti artisticamente la storia e la tradizione di Monschau. Quest'anno i borsisti sono la fotografa Katharina John e suo marito, l'attore e musicista Ulrich Tukur. Entrambi trattano in modo diverso tre città speciali, luoghi che attirano visitatori da tutto il mondo. Qual è in realtà l'identità propria di ogni città? Venezia è diventata una sorta di museo? Cosa si nasconde dietro le facciate intonacate di Monschau? E dove si nasconde l'anima di questa città, dietro tutte le diverse culture che sono visibili a Berlino? Tutte e tre le città hanno in comune il fatto di essere luoghi di desiderio che danno al viaggiatore di passaggio un'illusione di casa e di autenticità. Una sorta di "parco divertimenti" con la storia? Cosa è illusione e cosa è reale? E vogliamo vedere la realtà?
Sono tutte domande che Katharina John vuole porre con le sue immagini. I ritratti fotografici delle tre città sono completati da testi e registrazioni sonore di Ulrich Tukur.
For the second time, the StädteRegion Aachen and the Fotografie-Forum award an artist scholarship for a project that artistically deals with the history and tradition of Monschau. This year the scholarship holders are the photographer Katharina John and her husband, the actor and musician Ulrich Tukur. Both deal in different ways with three special cities, places that attract visitors from all over the world. What is actually each city's own identity? Has Venice become a kind of museum? What is behind the plastered facades of Monschau? And where is this city's own soul hidden behind all the different cultures that are visible in Berlin? What all three cities have in common is that they are places of longing that give the traveler passing through an illusion of home and authenticity. A kind of "amusement park" with history? What is illusion and what is real? And do we even want to see the real thing?
These are all questions that Katharina John wants to pose with her images. The photographic portraits of the three cities are complemented by texts and sound recordings by Ulrich Tukur.
