In der von Ruth Horak kuratierten Ausstellung zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum der Schule für künstlerische Photographie Friedl Kubelka Wien zeigt sich exemplarisch, wie KünstlerInnen aus dem Umfeld dieser Privatschule Fotografie als Bild und Medium denken und wie ihr persönliches Tribute an das Medium aussieht.
1990, als Friedl Kubelka die Schule für künstlerische Photographie gründete, festigte die Fotografie gerade ihren Status als künstlerische Disziplin. Rund 170 Lehrende wurden seither beauftragt, ihre persönlichen Arbeitsweisen, Motive und Materialien an rund 580 Studierende weiterzugeben. Jedes Jahr bringt die unterschiedlichsten Facetten der Fotografie mit sich − 1990 andere als 2010 mit Anja Manfredi als neue Leiterin der Schule.
Was gleich blieb, ist die Faszination für ein Medium, dessen Anwendungen heute vielfältiger sind als je zuvor, das anspruchsvoll und banal zugleich ist, aufwändig produziert ist oder nebenbei passiert, das zum Alltag, zur Wissenschaft, zur Kunst gehört, und damit stets aufs Neue evaluiert werden muss, wo die Fotografie beginnt, wie weit sie reicht und welchen Einfluss ihre Omnipräsenz auf die künstlerische Fotografie hat.
L'exposition organisée par Ruth Horak à l'occasion du 30e anniversaire de l'école de photographie artistique Friedl Kubelka de Vienne montre de manière exemplaire comment les artistes issus de l'environnement de cette école privée pensent à la photographie en tant qu'image et médium et quel est leur hommage personnel à ce médium.
En 1990, lorsque Friedl Kubelka a fondé l'École de photographie artistique, la photographie ne faisait que consolider son statut de discipline artistique. Depuis lors, environ 170 enseignants ont été chargés de transmettre leurs méthodes de travail, leurs motifs et leurs matériaux personnels à quelque 580 étudiants. Chaque année apporte avec elle une grande variété de facettes de la photographie - 1990 différent de 2010 avec Anja Manfredi comme nouvelle directrice de l'école.
Ce qui est resté le même, c'est la fascination pour un médium dont les applications sont aujourd'hui plus diverses que jamais, qui est à la fois sophistiqué et banal, produit de manière élaborée ou fortuite, qui fait partie de la vie quotidienne, de la science, de l'art, et qui doit donc être constamment réévalué, où commence la photographie, jusqu'où elle va et quelle influence son omniprésence a sur la photographie artistique.
In the exhibition curated by Ruth Horak on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Friedl Kubelka School of Artistic Photography Vienna, it is shown in an exemplary way how artists from the environment of this private school think of photography as an image and medium and what their personal tribute to the medium is.
In 1990, when Friedl Kubelka founded the School of Artistic Photography, photography was just consolidating its status as an artistic discipline. Since then, around 170 teachers have been commissioned to pass on their personal working methods, motifs and materials to around 580 students. Each year brings with it a wide variety of facets of photography - 1990 different than 2010 with Anja Manfredi as the new head of the school.
What has remained the same is the fascination for a medium whose applications are more diverse today than ever before, which is both sophisticated and banal at the same time, which is elaborately produced or happens incidentally, which is part of everyday life, science, art, and thus has to be constantly evaluated anew, where photography begins, how far it reaches and what influence its omnipresence has on artistic photography.
