Ruud van Empel (Pays-Bas, 1958) utilise le medium photographique comme une forme indépendante de l’imagination. Chaque image est constituée de photos, prises par lui-même, qui sont digitalement assemblées sur l’ordinateur. Il travaille conceptuellement et a créé un nouveau genre au sein de la photographie. Dans sa série Untitled (2004), il explore le thème de l’innocence, la suite de la série World (2005) et utilise pour la première fois un enfant noir comme symbole de cette innocence. Ces œuvres ont été inspirées par des photos prises pendant sa propre enfance par son père. Une des caractéristiques du travail de Ruud van Empel est le fait qu’il compose jusque dans les moindres détails une représentation parfaite et idéalisée. Mais celle-ci a toujours un côté plus sombre, quoique pas toujours évident. Ruud van Empel a amené la construction numérique de la photographie à un nouveau niveau.
Ruud van Empel est un artiste visuel et photographe reconnu. Il sort diplômé de la Breda Fine Arts School dans les années 70 et commence à travailler avec la vidéo dans les années 80. C’est en 2006, avec sa série World-Moon-Venus présentée à New York, que Ruud van Empel acquiert une réputation internationale dans le domaine de l’édition photographique et du collage. Depuis, il a exposé dans le monde entier, notamment au FoMu à Anvers (BE), au MoPA à San Diego (USA), au Groninger Museum (NL) et au Fotografiska (SE). Aujourd'hui, il vit et travaille à Amsterdam, aux Pays-Bas.
Ruud van Empel uses the medium of photography as an independent form of imagination. Every image consists of photo’s, taken by himself, that are digitally assembled on the computer. He works conceptual and has created a new genre within photography. In his series Untitled (2004) he explores the theme of innocence, the sequel series World (2005) and he uses a black child for the first time as a symbol of innocence. These works were inspired by photos taken during his own childhood by his father. A typical feature of the work of Ruud van Empel is the composition of a perfected and idealized representation right down to the finest details. But this always has a darker side, albeit not always evident. Ruud van Empel has taken digital contruction of photograpy to a new level.
Ruud van Empel is a well-known visual artist and photographer. He graduated from the Breda Fine Arts School in the seventies, and started out working with video in the eighties. As he became skilled in photographic editing and collages, Ruud van Empel’s international reputation took off in 2006 with his series World-Moon-Venus, on display in New York. Since that time, he has exhibited all over the world including the FoMu in Antwerp, the MoPA in San Diego (USA), the Groninger Museum (NL) and the Fotografiska museum (SE). Today, he lives and works in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
