Dal 30 novembre 2018 al 9 febbraio 2019, 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery di Milano (Via San Vittore 13) presenta la mostra LE TEMPS RETROUVÉ di Alain Laboile.
L’esposizione, a cura di Giovanni Pelloso, riunisce trenta opere fotografiche di un progetto ancora aperto che documenta ciò che egli stesso ha definito come una “testimonianza sociologica del nostro passaggio sulla Terra”.
Un passaggio che Laboile ha deciso di scandire ritraendo le gioie e i dolori dei suoi sei figli cresciuti in una vecchia casa nella campagna vicino a Bordeaux dove i bambini, lontani da meccanismi e influenze del consumismo moderno, sono liberi di giocare all’aria aperta.
Pur condividendo quella volontà di cogliere l’istantaneità che ha reso Cartier Bresson il poeta del moment dècisif, l’autore lascia qui spazio alla precisione soggettiva, ugualmente invisibile. Egli cattura, senza mai interferire, l’essenza e la fugacità di un’infanzia fatta di esplorazioni, libertà e innocenza.
Il morbido monocromatismo, cifra stilistica dell’autore, conferisce alle immagini un’atmosfera atemporale e universale, la cui essenzialità avvolge e allo stesso tempo valorizza i movimenti e le pose spontanee dei suoi soggetti.
Condividendo con lo spettatore la sua intimità e le sue emozioni, il fotografo ci invita a entrare nel suo personale mondo incantato, restituendoci le infinite sfumature di un tempo che qui scorre lento, sospeso, e ora racchiuso in un album che non si può e non si vuole concludere, inseguendo la rarità e la bellezza di quel proustiano “tempo ritrovato”.
Giovedì 29 novembre, giorno di inaugurazione della mostra, la galleria ospiterà a partire dalle ore 17 un talk con l’autore e il curatore, promosso nell’ambito del format Gallerie Aperte del distretto 5VIE di Milano. Durante l’evento inaugurale, a partire dalle ore 19, sarà anche disponibile il nuovo libro di Alain Laboile dal titolo Summer of the Fawn edito da Kehrer Verlag (a cura di Laurence Kiberlain) e presentato a Paris Photo 2018 nel settore Libri.
Alain Laboile nasce a Bordeaux il 1°maggio del 1968. La storia raccontata si dipana in un mondo in bianco e nero fatto di volti, di gesti, dell’istante quotidiano, di famiglia che non è solo affetti, ma ispirazione. Nel dicembre del 2012 il suo talento è stato celebrato dal New York Times che ha pubblicato le sue fotografie. Da allora è stato esposto in Giappone, negli Stati Uniti, in Olanda, in Argentina e in Francia. Kehrer Verlag, uno dei più grandi editori d’arte tedeschi, gli ha dedicato una monografia nel 2015. Il grande fotografo americano Jock Sturges lo decreta tra i migliori fotografi viventi. Oggi le fotografie di Alain Laboile hanno una loro collocazione nella tradizione storica della fotografia familiare e, dal 2014, fanno parte della collezione permanente di diversi musei in Francia.
From November 30th 2018 to February 9th 2019, 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery in Milan (Via San Vittore 13) will host the exhibition by Alain Laboile LE TEMPS RETROUVÉ.
Curated by Giovanni Pelloso, the exhibition will show a selection of thirty photographic works that the artist himself defined as "a sociological witness of our passage on Earth" living on the edge of the world.
A passage that the artist decided to mark by portraying joys and sorrows of his six children raised in an old house in the countryside near Bordeaux where they are free to play outdoors, far from omnipresent consumerism’s logics. Cartier Bresson’s wry and objective invisible precision here gives way to Laboile’s equally invisible subjective precision all the more richly informed by paternal affection and understanding.
Laboile catches the essence and the fugacity of a childhood made up of exploration, freedom and innocence without interfering. The soft monochromatism which distinguishes Laboile’s work manifests itself in a timeless, essential and universal atmosphere where his subjects are captured in spontaneous poses.
The photographer invites us to enjoy his personal enchanted world where his intimacy and his emotions give us back the infinite shades of a suspended time that here flows slowly, kept in an ongoing album that doesn’t want to come to an end.
In so doing, Laboile is pursuing the rarity and beauty of that Proustian "temps retrouvé".
On Thursday, November 29th the gallery will host a talk with the author and curator of the show starting from 5 pm, promoted within the framework of “Gallerie Aperte” in collaboration with the 5VIE Art+Design district of Milan.
Laboile’s new book entitled Summer of the Fawn - published by Kehrer and curated by Laurence Kiberlain - will be available at the gallery during the opening reception after the launch at Paris Photo 2018 in the Book sector.
Alain Laboile (b. Bordeaux, 1968) is a French photographer and father of six. In 2004, as he needed to put together a portfolio of his work as a sculptor, he acquired a camera, and thus developed a taste for macrophotography, spurred by his passion for entomology. Later on, he pointed his lens towards his growing family which became his major subject: a life on the edge of the world, where timelessness and universality of childhood meet. In December 2012, the New York Times celebrates Alain Laboile’s talent. The first shows ensue in Japan and the United States, Holland and Argentina, then in France in 2014 when the “La Famille” series joined the Musée français de la photographie collection. Alain Laboile’s work was since published several times and exhibited worldwide.
