Anlässlich ihres 80. Geburtstags würdigt das KUNST HAUS WIEN die große österreichische Fotografin Elfie Semotan mit einer umfangreichen Retrospektive. Die Ausstellung umspannt sechs Jahrzehnte von Elfie Semotans künstlerischem Werk. Ihr Werdegang reicht von eindringlichen Porträts, Aufnahmen aus den Ateliers verschiedener KünstlerInnen bis hin zu ihren Landschaftsaufnahmen und Stillleben. Als Mode- und Werbefotografin prägte sie erfolgreich und öffentlichkeitswirksam die österreichische Mode- und Werbeszene. In den 1990er-Jahren wird Elfie Semotan für ihre exklusive Arbeit mit Helmut Lang international bekannt. Als gefragte Fotografin wird sie fortan von Magazinen wie Vogue, Elle, Esquire, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar und The New Yorker eingeladen. In der Ausstellung wird der fotografische Kosmos Semotans als großes, ineinandergreifendes Geflecht von spezifischen Fragestellungen und Herangehensweisen an das Medium Fotografie erfahrbar gemacht.
On the occasion of her 80th birthday, KUNST HAUS WIEN pays tribute to the great Austrian photographer Elfie Semotan with an extensive retrospective. The exhibition spans six decades of Elfie Semotan's artistic work. Her career ranges from haunting portraits and shots from the studios of various artists to her landscape photographs and still lifes. As a fashion and advertising photographer, she successfully and publicly shaped the Austrian fashion and advertising scene. In the 1990s Elfie Semotan became internationally known for her exclusive work with Helmut Lang. As a sought-after photographer, she is from then on invited by magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Esquire, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. In the exhibition, Semotan's photographic cosmos is made tangible as a large, interlocking web of specific questions and approaches to the medium of photography.
