Die nordfranzösische Küste ist von der Geschichte geprägt: der Atlantikwall, die Befreiung, die Flüchtlingslager. In diesem Sinne untersucht der Künstler auf nicht-dokumentarische Weise alle Arten von Wechselwirkungen: die zwischen Land und Meer, fest und trübe, innen und außen, eingesperrt und befreit. Paul D'Haese verbindet diese Themen mit der Suche nach Identität, im Extremfall mit der "Borderline"-Persönlichkeitsstörung.
Vor drei Jahren hatte er zum ersten Mal die Idee, diese Grenzlinie zu erforschen. Seither folgt er einer etwa 350 km Luftlinie langen Route von Bray-Dunes nach Le Havre. Mit der Kamera durchquert er etwa fünfzig Dörfer und Städte, zuerst mit dem Auto, dann mit dem Fahrrad und schliesslich zu Fuss.
Borderline folgt Winks of Tangency, ein Projekt, bei dem er nur die Oberfläche, den Bildschirm, die Mauer, die Grenze "berührt" hat. Dieses Mal perforiert er die Grenzlinie, indem er sie fotografiert. Wie bei seinem vorherigen Projekt ist die Ausstellung Gegenstand einer Publikation: "Grenzlinie". Diese ist das Ergebnis einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Bruno Devos und Hangar.
Paul D'Haese wird 1958 in Ninove geboren. Er lebt und arbeitet in Ternat, Belgien.
La côte nord de la France est marquée par l'histoire : le mur de l'Atlantique, la libération, les camps de réfugiés. Dans cette optique, l'artiste explore, de manière non documentaire, toutes sortes d'interactions : celle entre la terre et la mer, le solide et le trouble, l'interne et l'externe, l'enfermé et le libéré. Paul D'Haese relie ces thèmes à la recherche d'identité, avec comme cas extrême, le trouble de la personnalité "borderline".
Il y a trois ans, il a conçu, pour la première fois, l'idée d'explorer cette ligne de démarcation. Depuis lors, il suit un itinéraire, d'environ 350 km à vol d'oiseau, de Bray-Dunes au Havre. Il traverse une cinquantaine de villages et de villes, avec son appareil photo, d'abord en voiture, puis à vélo, et enfin à pied.
Borderline suit Winks of Tangency, un projet où il n'a fait que "toucher" la surface, l'écran, le mur, la frontière. Cette fois, il perfore la frontière en la photographiant. Comme pour son projet précédent, l'exposition fait l'objet d'une publication : "Borderline". Celle-ci est le résultat d'une collaboration entre Bruno Devos et Hangar.
Paul D'Haese est né en 1958 à Ninove. Il vit et travaille à Ternat, en Belgique.
La costa settentrionale francese è segnata dalla storia: il Muro Atlantico, la liberazione, i campi profughi. In quest'ottica, l'artista indaga, in modo non documentario, ogni tipo di interazione: quella tra terra e mare, solida e torbida, interna ed esterna, rinchiusa e liberata. Paul D'Haese collega questi temi alla ricerca dell'identità, con, come caso estremo, il disturbo di personalità "borderline".
Tre anni fa ha concepito, per la prima volta, l'idea di esplorare questa linea di confine. Da allora, ha seguito un percorso, in linea d'aria, di circa 350 km, da Bray-Dunes a Le Havre. Attraversa una cinquantina di villaggi e città, con la sua macchina fotografica, prima in auto, poi in bicicletta e infine a piedi.
Borderline segue Winks of Tangency, un progetto in cui ha "toccato" solo la superficie, lo schermo, il muro, il confine. Questa volta ha perforato la linea di confine fotografandola. Come per il suo progetto precedente, la mostra è oggetto di una pubblicazione: "Borderline". Questa è il risultato della collaborazione tra Bruno Devos e Hangar.
Paul D'Haese è nato nel 1958 a Ninove. Vive e lavora a Ternat, in Belgio.
The northern French coast is marked by history: the Atlantic Wall, the liberation, the refugee camps. With this in mind, the artist investigates, in a non-documentary way, all kinds of interactions: the one between land and sea, solid and turbid, intern and extern, locked up and liberated. Paul D’Haese links these themes to the search for identity, with as an extreme case, the "borderline" personality disorder.
Three years ago, he conceived, for the first time, the idea of exploring this boundary line. Since then, he has been following a route, about 350 km as the crow flies, from Bray-Dunes to Le Havre. He crosses about fifty villages and towns, with his camera, first by car, then by bicycle, and finally on foot.
Borderline follows Winks of Tangency, a project where he only "touched" the surface, the screen, the wall, the border. This time, he perforates the borderline by photographing it.
As with his previous project, the exhibition is the subject of a publication: "Borderline". This one is the result of a collaboration between Bruno Devos and Hangar.
