Das lateinische Wort „Anima“ bedeutet Seele und Atem. Es meint zugleich den inneren Dialog und die Vorstellungskraft. Indem sie ihre Werke frei im Raum schweben lässt, entführt uns Mauren Brodbeck mitten in eine Natur, die ihren Filter durchlaufen hat - den Filter ihrer Farbpalette, verfremdeter Bilder und einer ungewohnten Klangumgebung. Durch den Aufbau eines sichtbaren und hörbaren Raumes, der ebenso einzigartig ist wie die Künstlerin selbst, gewährt sie den Besuchern Einblick in einen Garten, der eher an eine Traumlandschaft erinnert als an eine realistische Dokumentation der Natur. Mit Anima (2021) erkundet Brodbeck Materien, Farben, Beschaffenheiten, Geräusche auf visuelle und akustische Weisezugleich. Die Pflanzenwelt wird in einen Schwingungszustand versetzt, denn sie soll unsere Sinne und Emotionen ansprechen. Motive und Klänge werden von der Künstlerin bis ins Unendliche variiert. Indem sie die traditionelle Darstellung der Natur überwindet, lädt sie zur Kontaktaufnahme mit einer Pflanzenwelt anderer Art ein: Durch diesen immersiven Raum veranlasst die Künstlerin jeden und jede, der eigenen Intuition freien Lauf zu lassen. Wenn Brodbeck die uns vertraute Erscheinung der Natur sprengt, liegt das daran, dass sie eine Verbindung zum Unsichtbaren, oder besser gesagt zum Unberührbaren herstellen möchte. Mit Anima blicken wir hinter die Fassade der Pflanzenwelt - eine buchstäblich verwandelte Fassade. Das Einfangen von Klängen während des Entstehungsprozesses ist für Mauren Brodbeck entscheidend: Die Grattage der Fotografien oder der physische Kontakt mit den Pflanzen tragen zur Erkundung der Materie bei. Auf diese Weise wird der Ausstellungsraum zu einer Umgebung, in der die visuelle Landschaft in der akustischen Landschaft widerhallt, während sich die akustische Landschaft in der visuellen Landschaft spiegelt. Beim Rundgang durch diesen Raum ist jeder und jede eingeladen, den eigenen Empfindungen zu lauschen.
Das Werk von Brodbeck, das wie ein in Zeit und Raum hängender Garten wirkt, knüpft an die traditionelle Symbolik des Gartens an: Zwischen innerer Einkehr und Vergnügen stellt er auch einen spirituellen Raum dar und eine Gelegenheit, mit der Welt der Intimität neu in Kontakt zu treten. Auf diese Weise wird eine vertraute Erfahrung von der Künstlerin umgedeutet: der Spaziergang in der Natur. Ihr Garten glitzert, um unsere Sensibilität zu wecken und unsere Emotionen besser zu erreichen. Schließlich ist Anima auch eine Auseinandersetzung mit der „Anima Mundi“: Von den Philosophen wurde unter dem Begriff die Seele der Welt verstanden, und er beschreibt den Anspruch, die Natur als lebendiges Wesen wahrzunehmen, oder besser gesagt als göttliche Kraft, die alles Leben im Universum umfasst und in Bewegung versetzt.
Mauren Brodbeck (Schweiz, 1974) lebt und arbeitet in Genf. Siebeschreibt sich als „multisensorische“ Künstlerin und vereint in ihrer Arbeit visuelle und akustische Elemente, um Alltagserlebnisse umzudeuten. Mit ihren mehrdimensionalen Werken möchte sie das Publikum einladen, seine Beziehungen zur Umwelt mit anderen Augen zu sehen. Ihre Ausbildung begann in der Vancouver Film School in Kanada. Später erwarb sie einen Bachelor in Fotografie am Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Kalifornien, und absolvierte schließlich ein postgraduales Studium in Interaktive Kunst und Neuen Medien an der Hochschule für Kunst und Design (HEAD) in Genf. Seit 2005 wird ihre Arbeit in der Schweiz und im Ausland ausgestellt, insbesondere in Deutschland, in Frankreich und in den USA, sowie auf verschiedenen Fachmessen, wie z. B. Paris Photo und Berliner Liste. Außerdem ist Brodbeck Gründerin des Projektes Raw and Radical, das es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, Künstlerinnen zu vernetzen und zu unterstützen, insbesondere durch eine Podcast-Reihe.
« Anima » est un terme latin signifiant l’âme et le souffle. Il évoque à la fois le dialogue intérieur et l’imagination. En faisant flotter ses oeuvres dans l’espace, Mauren Brodbeck nous plonge au coeur d’une nature passée à travers son filtre – celui de sa palette de couleurs, d’images modifiées, et d’un environnement sonore insolite. C’est en créant un espace visuel et sonore aussi singulier que l’artiste invite le public à pénétrer au coeur d’un jardin qui évoque davantage un paysage rêvé qu’une documentation réaliste de la nature. Avec Anima (2021), Brodbeck explore les matières, les couleurs, les textures, les bruits, tant dans l’image que dans le son. Le monde végétal est mis dans un état vibratoire, car il doit s’adresser à nos sens et à nos émotions. Chez l’artiste, les variations visuelles et sonores
peuvent être développées à l’infini. En s’éloignant d’une représentation traditionnelle de la nature, elle nous invite à entrer en relation avec un environnement végétal d’un autre type : par cet espace immersif, l’artiste incite chacun·e à se
laisser porter par son intuition. Si Brodbeck perturbe ce que nous connaissons de la nature, c’est parce qu’elle cherche à créer une connexion avec l’invisible, ou mieux l’intangible. Anima nous emmène au-delà de la surface du monde végétal – une surface littéralement transformée. La captation de sons durant le processus de création est primordiale pour Mauren Brodbeck : le grattage des photographies ou le contact physique avec les plantes participent à l’exploration de la matière. L’espace d’exposition constitue alors un environnement où le paysage sonore fait
écho au paysage visuel, et vice versa. C’est en cheminant dans cet espace que chacun·e est invité·e à écouter son propre ressenti.
Pensé comme un jardin suspendu dans le temps et dans l’espace, le travail de Brodbeck renvoie à la symbolique traditionnelle du jardin : entre contemplation et plaisir, il est aussi un espace sacré et une possibilité de renouer avec un monde intime. Ainsi, l’artiste réinterprète une expérience commune : la promenade dans la nature. Son jardin scintille pour mieux s’adresser à nos émotions et à notre sensibilité. Enfin, Anima est aussi une exploration de « l’Anima Mundi » : décrite par les philosophes comme l’âme du monde, elle consiste à voir la nature comme un être vivant, ou mieux, une essence divine qui englobe et dynamise toute vie dans l’univers.

Depuis 2005, son travail est exposé en Suisse et à l’étranger, notamment en Allemagne, en France et aux Etats-Unis, et a été présenté dans différentes foires, telles que Paris Photo et la Berliner Liste. Brodbeck a également fondé Raw and Radical, un projet visant à connecter et soutenir les femmes artistes notamment par une série de podcasts.

Facendo fluttuare le sue opere nello spazio, Mauren Brodbeck ci immerge nel cuore della natura attraverso il suo filtro - quello della sua tavolozza di colori, immagini modificate e un ambiente sonoro insolito. Creando uno spazio visivo e sonoro così singolare, l'artista invita il pubblico a entrare in un giardino che evoca un paesaggio da sogno piuttosto che una documentazione realistica della natura. Con Anima (2021), Brodbeck esplora materiali, colori, texture e suoni, sia in immagine che in suono. Il mondo vegetale è posto in uno stato vibratorio, perché deve fare appello ai nostri sensi e alle nostre emozioni. Nel lavoro dell'artista, le variazioni visive e sonore

Lo spazio espositivo costituisce quindi un ambiente in cui il paesaggio sonoro fa eco al paesaggio visivo
riecheggia il paesaggio visivo e viceversa. Mentre si cammina attraverso lo spazio, si è invitati ad ascoltare i propri sentimenti.
Concepito come un giardino sospeso nel tempo e nello spazio, il lavoro di Brodbeck fa riferimento al simbolismo tradizionale del giardino: tra contemplazione e piacere, è anche uno spazio sacro e un'opportunità per riconnettersi con un mondo intimo. Così, l'artista reinterpreta un'esperienza comune: la passeggiata nella natura. Il suo giardino brilla per affrontare meglio le nostre emozioni e la nostra sensibilità. Infine, Anima è anche un'esplorazione dell'"Anima Mundi": descritta dai filosofi come l'anima del mondo, consiste nel vedere la natura come un essere vivente, o meglio, un'essenza divina che racchiude ed energizza tutta la vita nell'universo.

“Anima” is a Latin word meaning soul and breath. It evokes both inner dialogue and imagination. By making her works float in space, Mauren Brodbeck plunges us into the heart of nature through her filter –her palette of colours, modified images, and an unusual sound environment. By creating such a singular visual and sound space, the artist invites the public to enter a garden that evokes a dream landscape rather than a realistic documentation of nature. With Anima, Brodbeck explores materials, colours, textures and sounds, both in the image and sound. The plant world is put into a vibratory state, because it must appeal to our senses and emotions. The artist’s visual and sound variations can be developed endlessly. By moving away from a traditional representation of nature, she invites us to enter into a relationship with a different type of plant environment. Through this immersive space, the artist encourages each of us to let our intuition carry us along. If Brodbeck disturbs what we know of nature, it is because she seeks to create a connection with the invisible, or rather the intangible. Anima takes us beyond the surface of the plant world – a surface that has literally been digitally transformed. Capturing sounds during the creative process is essential for Mauren Brodbeck: scratching photographs or physical contact with the plants contributes to the exploration of the material. The exhibition space thus constitutes an environment where the soundscape echoes the visual landscape, and vice versa. As you walk through this space, you are invited to listen to your own feelings. Conceived as a garden suspended in time and space, Brodbeck’s work refers to the traditional symbolism of the garden: between contemplation and pleasure, it is also a sacred space and a possibility to reconnect with an intimate world. With this installation, Brodbeck reinterprets a common experience: the walk in nature. Her garden sparkles to better address our emotions and sensibilities. Finally, Anima is also an exploration of the “Anima Mundi”: described by philosophers as the soul of the world, it consists of seeing nature as a living being, or rather a divine essence that encompasses and energises every life in the universe.
Mauren Brodbeck (Switzerland, 1974) lives and works in Geneva. Describing herself as a “multi-sensory” artist, her work combines visual and auditory elements to create reinterpretations of everyday experiences. With her multidimensional works, she wishes to invite the public to reconsider their relationship with the environment around them. Her training began at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. She then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in photography at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. She then went on to complete a post-graduate degree at the Haute école d’art et de design (HEAD) in Geneva, where she studied interactive arts and new media. Since 2005, her work has been exhibited in Switzerland and abroad, notably in Germany, France and the United States, and has been shown at various fairs, such as Paris Photo and the Berliner Liste. Brodbeck also founded Raw and Radical, a project that aims to connect and support women artists through a series of podcasts.
