Ausstellung/Hangar präsentiert fünfundzwanzig Jahre der künstlerischen Laufbahn von Ruud van Empel anhand der eindrucksvollsten und schönsten Bilder seiner Karriere. Im musealen Maßstab versammelt die Ausstellung 90 emblematische Werke dieses bahnbrechenden Fotografen des digitalen Bauens. Es ist das erste Mal, dass ihm eine Ausstellung dieser Größenordnung gewidmet wird.
3 Monate lang wird die gesamte Karriere des Künstlers in den 1000 m2 des Hangars ausgestellt. Ziel der Ausstellung ist es, anhand von 15 fotografischen Hauptserien zu verschiedenen Themen ein vollendetes Werk zu entdecken oder wiederzuentdecken. Wie eine Reise durch die Zeit beginnt die Ausstellung mit seinen jüngsten Werken und endet mit seinen ersten Arbeiten. Die Retrospektive ermöglicht es der Öffentlichkeit, die Entwicklung des Werks von Ruud van Empel in Bezug auf die Entwicklung der Mentalitäten und Technologien (von der manuellen Collage bis zur digitalen Komposition) zu beobachten. Ruud van Empel spielt mit unserer Wahrnehmung von Wirklichkeit und Zeit und zeigt Porträts und Landschaften, die realistisch, aber unbestreitbar utopisch sind. "Als digitaler Maler konnte Ruud van Empel von Schwarz-Weiß zu Farbe übergehen, von der Bestandsaufnahme und Dokumentation zur Porträtmalerei, und heute hat er lebendige Abstraktionen um Naturbilder herum geschaffen", erklärt Christian Caujolle, Historiker der Fotografie.
Der Hangar ist stolz darauf, diesen weltbekannten Fotografen begrüßen zu dürfen, zu dem er eine enge berufliche Beziehung entwickelt hat. Ruud van Empel hat bereits zweimal im Hangar ausgestellt: 2017 im Rahmen der zweiten Ausgabe des PhotoBrussels Festival (Thema: Porträt) und 2018 mit einer Einzelausstellung im vorderen Bereich des Hangars.
Exposition/ Hangar présente vingt-cinq ans de carrière artistique de Ruud van Empel à travers les images les plus saisissantes et les plus belles de sa carrière. A échelle muséale, l’exposition rassemble 90 oeuvres emblématiques de ce photographe pionnier de la construction numérique. C’est la première fois qu’une exposition d’une telle ampleur lui est consacrée.
Pendant 3 mois, toute la carrière de l’artiste sera exposée dans les 1000 m2 du hangar. L’exposition vise à découvrir ou redécouvrir une oeuvre accomplie à travers 15 principales séries photographiques sur différentes thématiques. Comme un voyage dans le temps, l’exposition commence par ses oeuvres les plus récentes et se termine par ses premiers travaux. La rétrospective permettra au public d’observer l’évolution de l’oeuvre de Ruud van Empel, en relation avec l’évolution des mentalités et des technologies (du collage manuel à la composition digitale). Ruud van Empel joue avec notre perception de la réalité et du temps, montrant des portraits et des paysages réalistes mais incontestablement utopiques. « Peintre numérique, Ruud van Empel a pu passer, au cours de sa carrière, du noir et blanc à la couleur, de l’inventaire et de la documentation au portrait pour aboutir aujourd’hui à des abstractions vibrant autour d’images de la nature », explique Christian Caujolle, historien de la photographie.
Hangar est fier d’accueillir ce photographe de renommée mondiale avec lequel il a noué une relation professionnelle étroite. Ruud van Empel a déjà exposé deux fois au hangar : en 2017, dans le cadre de la deuxième édition du PhotoBrussels Festival (thème : portrait), et en 2018 avec un solo show dans le frontspace du hangar.
Exhibition/ Hangar displays twenty-five years of creation through the most striking and beautiful images of Ruud van Empel’s career. The exhibition, on a museum scale, brings together 90 emblematic photographic works of this photographer. As a pioneer in digital construction, Ruud van Empel presents for the first time an exhibition of such a broad scope.
During 3 months, the entire career of the artist will be displayed in the 1000m2 of hangar. The exhibition aims to discover or re-discover an accomplished and extraordinary work through all 15 series. Like a journey back in time, it starts with his most recent and iconic works and ends with his early works, and thus gathers together different themes. The retrospective will allow the public to observe the evolution of Ruud van Empel’s work over his life, in relation with the evolutions of the mentalities and the technological developments in photography. Ruud van Empel plays with our perception of reality and time, showing realistic but undoubtedly utopian portraits and landscapes.
Hangar proudly welcomes this globally acclaimed photographer with whom it has build a close professional relationship. Ruud van Empel has already exhibited at hangar twice: In 2017, as part of the second edition of PhotoBrussels Festival, and in 2018 with a solo show in hangar front space (street front).
