D'oc - une commande photographique en Occitanie

Das Land wurde während der Pandemie hin und her geworfen, die sich seitdem zu einer Krise, Inflation und sogar zu einem Krieg vor den Toren Europas entwickelt hat. Politische Instabilität steht zweifellos bevor. Aber was, wenn das Unwohlsein von viel weiter herkommt? Die Gelbwesten, deren Revolte wir uns vorgestellt hatten, als wir von Sète aus La France Vue d'ici produzierten? Das war 2014 und wir hatten damals 26 Fotografen dabei geholfen, ein gekentertes und bereits besorgtes Land in Bildern darzustellen.
Diesmal haben wir einen anderen, bescheideneren Weg gewählt, um einen Teil Frankreichs zu erforschen und zu entdecken, der von den aktuellen Wechselfällen des Landes nicht ausgenommen ist: Okzitanien.
Okzitanien ist so groß wie Irland. Dreizehn Departements, für eine Region nach dem Vorbild der deutschen Bundesländer und entstanden aus der Flurbereinigung von 2016, als wir von 22 auf 13 Einheiten umgestellt haben. Durch einen klaren politischen Willen zur Verwaltungsvereinfachung... Weg mit Languedoc-Roussillon und Midi-Pyrénées und es lebe Okzitanien...
Aber die Dinge sind nicht so einfach, denn die Departements, die eigentlich verschwinden sollten, gibt es immer noch, und zwar sehr gut, und die Dezentralisierung hat seit der Reform letztlich kaum Fortschritte gemacht. Zweifellos eine weitere französische Krankheit. Die Einsparungen, die das Gesetz vorsieht, müssen noch gefunden werden. So viel zum politischen Aspekt der Sache.
Was uns bei ImageSingulières jedoch am meisten interessiert hat, ist letztendlich die Geografie. Diese Region ist so groß, so lang und so breit, dass es uns schwerfällt, ihre Umrisse zu definieren. Sie bleibt in unserer Vorstellungswelt abstrakt. Okzitanien bezieht sich eher auf eine Geschichte, eine Kultur und eine Sprache als auf ein Territorium. Das wollten wir in Angriff nehmen, indem wir uns vorstellten, junge Fotografen mit dokumentarischem Stil, die wir alle am Ende ihres Studiums an der ETPA kennengelernt hatten, auf verschiedene Pfade zu schicken. Das ist der Grundgedanke des Projekts: eine subjektive Geografie Okzitaniens sichtbar zu machen.
Sechs Blicke, sechs fotografische Stile. Die respektierte Parität und die lange Zeit, eine Kardinaltugend des Dokumentarfilms, haben aus dieser Arbeit ein originelles und sensibles Werk gemacht. Die Regeln, oder besser gesagt das Fehlen von Regeln, haben den einen oder anderen manchmal verwirrt, aber alle haben schließlich ihre Furchen in ihren jeweiligen Gebieten gezogen: die Pyrenäen, die Cevennen, die Wasserwege, die Jakobswege und die beiden Hauptstädte Toulouse und Montpellier, die allesamt gegensätzlich sind und die ihre regionale Zugehörigkeit vereint.
Es ist das Ziel dieser Carte blanche, den Autoren genügend Freiheit zu lassen, sie aber dennoch zu verpflichten, während ihrer Wanderung ein Puzzleteil zu dokumentieren, das die Karte der Region bildet, und sie in ein Projekt zur Produktionsförderung zu integrieren, das in Okzitanien Gestalt annimmt und lebt.
Le pays a été ballotté en tous sens pendant la pandémie qui s’est depuis muée en crise, inflation, et même guerre aux portes de l’Europe. Avec une instabilité politique à venir sans doute. Mais si le mal-être venait de bien plus loin ? Des gilets jaunes dont nous avions imaginé la révolte en produisant, depuis Sète, la France Vue d’ici ? C’était en 2014 et nous avions alors aidé vingt-six photographes à dépeindre en images un pays chaviré et déjà inquiet.
C’est une autre voie, plus modeste, que nous avons choisi cette foisci pour explorer et découvrir une partie de la France qui n’échappe en rien aux vicissitudes actuelles du pays : l’Occitanie.
L’Occitanie, c’est grand comme l’Irlande. Treize départements, pour une région à l’image des Länders allemands, et née du remembrement de 2016 quand nous sommes passés de 22 à 13 entités. Par une volonté politique manifeste de simplification administrative… Exit le Languedoc-Roussillon et le Midi-Pyrénées et vive l’Occitanie…
Mais les choses ne sont pas aussi simples car les départements qui avaient vocation à disparaître sont toujours là, et bien là, et la décentralisation a finalement peu progressé depuis la réforme. Un autre mal français sans doute. Quant aux économies imaginées par la loi, elles restent à trouver. Voici pour l’aspect politique de la chose.
Mais ce qui nous a le plus intéressé à ImageSingulières c’est finalement la géographie. Cette région est si vaste, si longue, si large qu’on a du mal à en définir les contours. Elle reste abstraite dans notre imaginaire. L’Occitanie se réfère plus à une histoire, une culture, une langue qu’à un territoire. C’est ce à quoi nous avons voulu nous atteler, en imaginant lancer sur des pistes diverses, de jeunes photographes acquis au style documentaire, tous croisés à la fin de leur cycle d’études à l’ETPA. C’est l’idée force du projet : donner à voir une géographie subjective de l’Occitanie.
Six regards, six styles photographiques. La parité respectée et le temps long, vertu cardinale du documentaire, ont fait de ce travail une oeuvre originale et sensible. Les règles, ou plutôt l’absence de règles, ont parfois dérouté les uns et les autres, mais tous ont fini par tracer leur sillon dans leurs territoires respectifs : les Pyrénées, les Cévennes, les voies navigables, les chemins de Compostelle et les deux capitales Toulouse et Montpellier que tout oppose et que leur appartenance régionale rassemble.
C’est tout l’objet de cette carte blanche de laisser suffisamment de liberté aux auteurs en les obligeant tout de même à documenter lors de leur itinérance, une pièce du puzzle constitutif de la carte de la région, et en les intégrant à un projet d’aide à la production qui prend corps et vit en Occitanie.

Dai gilet gialli di cui avevamo immaginato la rivolta mentre producevamo, da Sète, Francia Vue d'ici? Era il 2014 e abbiamo aiutato ventisei fotografi a ritrarre per immagini un Paese che si era capovolto ed era già preoccupato.
Questa volta abbiamo scelto un percorso diverso, più modesto, per esplorare e scoprire una parte della Francia che non è affatto immune dalle attuali vicissitudini del Paese: l'Occitania.
L'Occitania è grande come l'Irlanda. Tredici dipartimenti, per una regione come i Länders tedeschi, e nati dalla riorganizzazione del 2016 quando siamo passati da 22 a 13 enti. Con una chiara volontà politica di semplificare l'amministrazione... Uscita dalla Linguadoca-Rossiglione e dal Midi-Pirenei e lunga vita all'Occitania...
Ma le cose non sono così semplici, perché i dipartimenti destinati a scomparire sono ancora lì e il decentramento ha fatto pochi progressi dopo la riforma. Un altro male francese, senza dubbio. Per quanto riguarda i risparmi previsti dalla legge, non sono ancora stati trovati. Questo per quanto riguarda l'aspetto politico della questione.
Ma ciò che più ci ha interessato a ImageSingulières è stata infine la geografia. Questa regione è così vasta, lunga e ampia che è difficile definirne i contorni. Rimane astratto nella nostra immaginazione. L'Occitania si riferisce più a una storia, una cultura, una lingua che a un territorio. Questo è ciò che abbiamo voluto affrontare, immaginando di lanciare giovani fotografi su percorsi diversi, tutti acquisiti in stile documentaristico al termine dei loro studi all'ETPA. Questa è l'idea principale del progetto: mostrare una geografia soggettiva dell'Occitania.
Sei viste, sei stili fotografici. La parità rispettata e i tempi lunghi, virtù cardine del documentario, hanno fatto di questo lavoro un'opera originale e sensibile. Le regole, o meglio l'assenza di regole, hanno talvolta lasciato perplessi alcuni, ma tutti hanno finito per tracciare i loro solchi nei rispettivi territori: i Pirenei, le Cevennes, le vie d'acqua, i sentieri di Compostela e le due capitali Tolosa e Montpellier che tutto contrastano e che la loro appartenenza regionale accomuna.
Lo scopo di questa carta bianca è quello di dare agli autori sufficiente libertà, obbligandoli a documentare un pezzo del puzzle che compone la mappa della regione, e di integrarli in un progetto di aiuto alla produzione che prende forma e vive in Occitania.
The country was tossed about during the pandemic, which has since turned into a crisis, inflation, and even war at the gates of Europe. With political instability undoubtedly to come. But what if the malaise came from much further away? Yellow vests whose revolt we had imagined by producing, from Sète, France Vue d'ici? It was in 2014 and we had then helped twenty-six photographers to depict in images a country capsized and already worried.
This time, we have chosen a different, more modest path to explore and discover a part of France that is not immune to the current vicissitudes of the country: Occitania.
Occitania is as big as Ireland. Thirteen departments, for a region in the image of the German Länders, and born of the reorganization of 2016 when we went from 22 to 13 entities. By a clear political will of administrative simplification... Exit Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées and long live Occitanie...
But things are not so simple because the departments that were destined to disappear are still there, and decentralization has finally made little progress since the reform. Another French evil, no doubt. As for the savings imagined by the law, they have yet to be found. So much for the political aspect of the matter.
But what interested us the most at ImageSingulières is finally the geography. This region is so vast, so long, so wide that it is difficult to define its contours. It remains abstract in our imagination. Occitania refers more to a history, a culture, a language than to a territory. This is what we wanted to tackle, by imagining launching on various tracks, young photographers acquired in the documentary style, all crossed at the end of their studies at the ETPA. This is the main idea of the project: to give to see a subjective geography of Occitania.
Six views, six photographic styles. The respected parity and the long time, cardinal virtue of the documentary, made of this work an original and sensitive work. The rules, or rather the absence of rules, have sometimes baffled some of them, but all of them have ended up tracing their furrows in their respective territories: the Pyrenees, the Cevennes, the waterways, the paths of Compostela and the two capitals, Toulouse and Montpellier, that everything opposes and that their regional belonging brings together.
It is the purpose of this carte blanche to leave enough freedom to the authors while obliging them to document a piece of the puzzle that constitutes the map of the region, and by integrating them into a production aid project that takes shape and lives in Occitanie.
