Beatrice Minda
Als Beatrice Minda zwischen 2014 und 2017 die Aufnahmen für »Dark Whispers« fotografierte, war Myanmar auf dem Weg in eine vielversprechende, demokratische Zukunft. Im Januar 2021 wurde diese Entwicklung durch den Militärputsch radikal beendet. Inzwischen sind die bürgerkriegsähnlichen Umstände in Myanmar durch die folgenden Ereignisse der Jahre 2021/2022 medial in den Hintergrund gedrängt worden. Ein Grund mehr, durch diese Ausstellung den Fokus wieder auf dieses Land mit seiner bewegten und bewegenden Geschichte zu lenken.
Wie auch in ihren vorangegangenen Projekten, beschäftigt sich Beatrice Minda – die in Berlin lebt und arbeitet – wieder mit Gebäuden und ihren Interieurs vor dem Hintergrund historischer Ereignisse. In ihren Bildern spiegeln sich die ambivalenten Aspekte der Britischen Kolonialzeit wider. Eine unheimliche Leere beseelt diese Räume – ein Memento Mori, das an das viele Unausgesprochene in der Burmesischen Geschichte erinnert.
Bei Hartmann Books ist das Buch mit dem gleichnamigen Titel »Beatrice Minda – Dark Whispers« erschienen, das wir während der Ausstellung auch signiert anbieten können.
Lorsque Beatrice Minda a photographié les prises de vue de "Dark Whispers" entre 2014 et 2017, le Myanmar était sur la voie d'un avenir démocratique prometteur. En janvier 2021, le coup d'État militaire a radicalement mis fin à cette évolution. Entre-temps, les circonstances de guerre civile au Myanmar ont été reléguées à l'arrière-plan médiatique par les événements suivants des années 2021/2022. Raison de plus pour attirer à nouveau l'attention sur ce pays à l'histoire mouvementée et émouvante à travers cette exposition.
Comme dans ses projets précédents, Beatrice Minda - qui vit et travaille à Berlin - s'intéresse à nouveau aux bâtiments et à leurs intérieurs sur fond d'événements historiques. Ses visuels reflètent les aspects ambivalents de l'époque coloniale britannique. Un vide inquiétant anime ces espaces - un memento mori qui rappelle les nombreux non-dits de l'histoire birmane.
Hartmann Books a publié le livre du même nom "Beatrice Minda - Dark Whispers", que nous pouvons également proposer en dédicace pendant l'exposition.
Quando Beatrice Minda ha scattato le fotografie per "Dark Whispers" tra il 2014 e il 2017, il Myanmar si stava avviando verso un promettente futuro democratico. Nel gennaio 2021, il colpo di Stato militare ha messo radicalmente fine a questo sviluppo. Nel frattempo, le circostanze simili a una guerra civile in Myanmar sono passate in secondo piano nei media grazie agli eventi successivi del 2021/2022. When Beatrice Minda photographed the images for "Dark Whispers" between 2014 and 2017, Myanmar was on its way to a promising, democratic future. In January 2021, this development was radically ended by the military coup. In the meantime, the civil war-like circumstances in Myanmar have been pushed into the background by the following events of 2021/2022 in the media. One more reason to draw the focus back to this country with its turbulent and moving history through this exhibition.
As in her previous projects, Beatrice Minda - who lives and works in Berlin - again deals with buildings and their interiors against the background of historical events. Her images reflect the ambivalent aspects of the British colonial period. An eerie emptiness animates these spaces - a memento mori that recalls the many unspoken things in Burmese history.
Hartmann Books has published the book with the same title "Beatrice Minda - Dark Whispers", which we can also offer signed during the exhibition.
