Seit 1955 zeichnet der jährliche World Press Photo Contest professionelle Fotografen für die besten Bilder aus, die in acht Kategorien als Einzelbilder oder Geschichten präsentiert werden und zum vergangenen Jahr des visuellen Journalismus beitragen.
In diesem Jahr haben 4.315 Fotografen aus 130 Ländern 74.470 Bilder zum Wettbewerb eingereicht. Die Gewinner sind 45 Fotografen aus 28 Ländern: Argentinien, Armenien, Australien, Bangladesch, Weißrussland, Brasilien, Kanada, Dänemark, Frankreich, Griechenland, Indien, Indonesien, Italien, Iran, Irland, Mexiko, Myanmar, Peru, Philippinen, Polen, Portugal, Russland, Slowenien, Spanien, Schweden, Schweiz, Niederlande, Vereinigte Staaten.
Eine unabhängige Jury aus 28 Fotografie-Profis unter dem Vorsitz von NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati wählte die besten Bilder und Geschichten des Jahres 2020 aus. In einem beispiellosen Jahr, das von der COVID-19-Pandemie und Protesten für soziale Gerechtigkeit rund um den Globus geprägt war, zeigen die Gewinner eine Vielfalt an Interpretationen und Perspektiven zu diesen und anderen dringenden Themen wie der Klimakrise, den Rechten von Transgender- Personen und territorialen Konflikten.
Die Jury des Fotowettbewerbs 2021 wählte das Foto The First Embrace von Mads Nissen zum World Press Photo of the Year und Habibi von Antonio Faccilongo zur World Press Photo Story of the Year.
Depuis 1955, le concours annuel World Press Photo récompense les photographes professionnels pour les meilleures images, présentées dans huit catégories sous forme d'images uniques ou de récits, contribuant à l'année écoulée du journalisme visuel.
Cette année, 4 315 photographes de 130 pays ont soumis 74 470 images au concours. Les lauréats sont 45 photographes de 28 pays : Argentine, Arménie, Australie, Bangladesh, Bélarus, Brésil, Canada, Danemark, France, Grèce, Inde, Indonésie, Italie, Iran, Irlande, Mexique, Myanmar, Pérou, Philippines, Pologne, Portugal, Russie, Slovénie, Espagne, Suède, Suisse, Pays-Bas, États-Unis.
Un jury indépendant composé de 28 professionnels de la photographie, présidé par NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, a sélectionné les meilleures images et histoires de 2020. En cette année sans précédent marquée par la pandémie de COVID-19 et les manifestations pour la justice sociale dans le monde entier, les lauréats présentent une variété d'interprétations et de perspectives sur ces questions et d'autres sujets urgents tels que la crise climatique, les droits des personnes transgenres et les conflits territoriaux.

An independent jury made up of 28 photography professionals, chaired by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, selected the best pictures and stories of 2020. In an unprecedented year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and social justice protests around the globe, the winners share a diversity of interpretations and perspectives to these and other urgent issues such as the climate crisis, transgender people's rights, and territorial conflicts.
The jury of the 2021 Photo Contest selected Mads Nissen’s photograph The First Embrace as the World Press Photo of the Year, and Habibi by Antonio Faccilongo as the World Press Photo Story of the Year.
The jury also selected winners in eight categories: Contemporary Issues, General News, Environment, Long-Term Projects, Nature, Spot News, Sports, and Portraits.
