Die Ausstellung The Possibility of Existence zeigt das vergessene fotografische Werk von Shigeru Onishi (1928 - 1994). Nach seinem Abschluss in Topologie (Zweig der Mathematik) an der Universität Hokkaido im Jahr 1953 begann der Künstler, seine mathematischen Theorien auf die Fotografie anzuwenden. Obwohl seine Theorien ziemlich komplex sind, haben sie ein einzigartiges Werk hervorgebracht, das ihn von anderen Bewegungen und Ideen in der japanischen Fotografie seiner Zeit abhebt.
In seinen Fotografien versuchte Onishi, Zeit und Raum zu überwinden: Seine Werke verzichten auf die Fotografie als Schnappschuss. Bilder vermischen sich in Montagen oder verblassen in seinen unorthodoxen Druckverfahren; Onishi ignorierte alle Regeln der Dunkelkammer. So "malte" er beispielsweise die Fotoemulsion mit einem Pinsel auf das Fotopapier und sorgte so bewusst für Unregelmäßigkeiten in der Entwicklung des Bildes. Nach 1957 hörte Onishi aus unbekannten Gründen mit dem Fotografieren auf, um sich ganz dem Schaffen abstrakter Tuschebilder zu widmen.
In Zusammenarbeit mit der MEM Gallery und Bombas Gens zeigt Foam eine große Auswahl von Vintage Prints in Kombination mit einigen Tuschebildern.
L'exposition The Possibility of Existence présente l'œuvre photographique oubliée de Shigeru Onishi (1928 - 1994). Après avoir obtenu un diplôme en topologie (branche des mathématiques) à l'université d'Hokkaido en 1953, l'artiste a commencé à appliquer ses théories mathématiques à la photographie. Bien que ses théories soient assez complexes, elles ont produit un corpus d'œuvres unique qui l'a éloigné des autres mouvements et idées de la photographie japonaise de son époque.
Dans ses photographies, Onishi a tenté de transcender le temps et l'espace : ses œuvres renoncent à la photographie en tant qu'instantané. Les images se mélangent dans les montages, ou s'effacent dans ses méthodes d'impression peu orthodoxes ; Onishi ignorait toutes les règles de la chambre noire. Par exemple, il " peint " l'émulsion photographique sur le papier photo avec un pinceau, introduisant délibérément des irrégularités dans le développement de l'image. Après 1957, Onishi a cessé de photographier pour des raisons inconnues afin de se consacrer entièrement à la création de peintures à l'encre abstraites.
En collaboration avec la galerie MEM et Bombas Gens, Foam présente une large sélection de tirages vintage en combinaison avec quelques peintures à l'encre.

The exhibition The Possibility of Existence shows the forgotten photographic oeuvre of Shigeru Onishi (1928 - 1994). After graduating in topology (branch of mathematics) from Hokkaido University in 1953, the artist began to apply his mathematical theories to photography. Although his theories are fairly complex, they have produced a unique body of work that distanced him from other movements and ideas in Japanese photography of his time.
In his photographs, Onishi tried to transcend time and space: his works renounce photography as a snapshot. Images mingle in montages, or fade in his unorthodox printing methods; Onishi ignored all the rules of the darkroom. For example, he 'painted' the photographic emulsion on the photo paper with a brush, deliberately introducing irregularities in the development of the image. After 1957, Onishi stopped photographing for unknown reasons to devote himself entirely to creating abstract ink paintings.
In collaboration with MEM Gallery and Bombas Gens, Foam is showing a wide selection of vintage prints in combination with some ink paintings.
