Karel Fonteyne
Als Aushängeschild der belgischen und internationalen Modefotografie umspannte Karel Fonteynes Karriere in diesem Genre mehr als 15 Jahre. Sein eher experimenteller Stil führte zu bahnbrechenden Bildern, die über die klassische Modefotografie hinausgingen. Im Jahr 1996 beschloss er, die Modefotografie aufzugeben, um ein persönlicheres Werk zu entwickeln. Karel Fonteyne ist Nonkonformist. Er spielt mit Codes, dekonstruiert die Realität und zieht das Komplexe dem Offensichtlichen vor. "Im Allgemeinen fotografiere ich nicht das, was ich sehe, sondern das, was mein Geist widerspiegelt".
Die Ausstellung ist weder linear noch chronologisch, sondern eher zirkulär. Das Gespenst der Gegenwart hindert den Besucher nicht daran, das Werk von Karel Fonteyne zu begreifen, denn seine Bilder sind zeitlos und aus der Zeit gefallen. Wie eine Reise durch den Kopf des Fotografen springt man von Foto zu Foto, von Schwarzweiß zu Farbe, von inszenierter zu spontaner, von konzeptueller zu Modefotografie. Die Konzeptgeschichte hat einen direkten Einfluss auf die Vielfalt der Techniken. Gleichzeitig homogen und heterogen, persönlich und universell, ist sein Werk eine Einladung, eine eigene Erzählung zu konstruieren.
Über die drei Stockwerke des Hangars verteilt, setzt sich die Ausstellung aus verschiedenen Kapiteln zusammen, in denen sich Sinnlichkeit, Esoterik, Natur, Einsamkeit und Humor zu einer besonderen Atmosphäre seiner inneren Welt verbinden. Die Bilder von Karel Fonteyne wecken die Sinne und versetzen uns in ein anderes Universum. Sie erzählen eine Geschichte ohne Worte. Anlässlich der Ausstellung erscheint im September eine Retrospektive mit dem Titel Spell.
Karel Fonteyne ist 1950 in Antwerpen geboren. Er arbeitet in Belgien und im Ausland.
Figure emblématique de la photographie de mode belge et internationale, Karel Fonteyne a mené une carrière de plus de 15 ans dans ce genre. Son style plutôt expérimental a donné naissance à des images pionnières qui vont au-delà de la photographie de mode classique. En 1996, il a décidé d'abandonner la photographie de mode pour développer un travail plus personnel. Karel Fonteyne est un non-conformiste. Il joue avec les codes, déconstruit la réalité et préfère le complexe à l'évidence. "En général, je ne photographie pas ce que je vois mais ce que mon esprit reflète".
L'exposition n'est ni linéaire ni chronologique, mais plutôt circulaire. Le spectre du présent n'empêchera pas le visiteur de saisir l'œuvre de Karel Fonteyne car ses images sont sans âge et hors du temps. Comme un voyage dans l'esprit du photographe, on saute de photo en photo, du noir et blanc à la couleur, de la mise en scène à la spontanéité, de la photographie conceptuelle à la photographie de mode. L'histoire conceptuelle a une influence directe sur la variété des techniques. À la fois homogène et hétérogène, personnel et universel, son travail est une invitation à construire sa propre histoire.
Répartie sur les trois étages du Hangar, l'exposition est composée de différents chapitres, où la sensualité, l'ésotérisme, la nature, la solitude et l'humour se combinent pour créer une atmosphère particulière de son monde intérieur. Les images de Karel Fonteyne éveillent les sens et nous transportent dans un autre univers. Elles racontent une histoire sans paroles.
Un livre rétrospectif intitulé Spell sera publié en septembre pour coïncider avec l'exposition.

Come figura di punta della fotografia di moda belga e internazionale, la carriera di Karel Fonteyne in questo genere si è estesa per oltre 15 anni. Il suo stile piuttosto sperimentale ha dato vita a immagini pionieristiche che andavano oltre la classica fotografia di moda. Nel 1996, ha deciso di abbandonare la fotografia di moda per sviluppare un lavoro più personale. Karel Fonteyne è anticonformista. Gioca con i codici, decostruisce la realtà e preferisce il complesso all'ovvio. "In generale, non fotografo ciò che vedo, ma ciò che la mia mente riflette".
La mostra non è né lineare né cronologica, ma piuttosto circolare. Lo spettro del presente non impedirà al visitatore di cogliere l'opera di Karel Fonteyne perché le sue immagini sono senza età e fuori dal tempo. Come un viaggio nella mente del fotografo, si salta da una foto all'altra, dal bianco e nero al colore, dalla messa in scena alla spontaneità, dalla fotografia concettuale a quella di moda. Il concept story ha un'influenza diretta sulla varietà delle tecniche. Allo stesso tempo omogenea ed eterogenea, personale e universale, il suo lavoro è un invito a costruire la propria narrazione.
Distribuita sui tre piani dell'Hangar, la mostra è composta da diversi capitoli, dove sensualità, esoterismo, natura, solitudine e umorismo si combinano per creare una particolare atmosfera del suo mondo interiore. Le immagini di Karel Fonteyne risvegliano i sensi e ci trasportano in un altro universo. Raccontano una storia senza parole.
In settembre, in concomitanza con la mostra, sarà pubblicato un libro retrospettivo intitolato Spell.

His rather experimental style gave rise to pioneering images that went beyond classical fashion photography. In 1996, he decided to give up fashion photography to develop a more personal work. Karel Fonteyne is non-conformist. He plays with codes, deconstructs reality and prefers the complex to the obvious. “Generally, I don’t photograph what I see but what my mind reflects”.
The exhibition is neither linear nor chronological, but rather circular. The spectre of the present will not prevent the visitor from grasping Karel Fonteyne’s work because his images are ageless and out of time. Like a journey through the photographer’s mind, one jumps from photo to photo, from black and white to colour, from staged to spontaneous, from conceptual to fashion photography. The concept story has a direct influence on the variety of techniques. Concurrently homogeneous and heterogeneous, personal and universal, his work is an invitation to construct one’s own narrative.
