Anatomy of Forgiveness | Lana Mesic
Die Bieler Fototage sind ein Schweizer Festival für junge, aufstrebende Fotografie. Jedes Jahr während jeweils drei Wochen werden Ausstellungen von ungefähr 20 Schweizer und internationalen Fotografinnen und Fotografen präsentiert, die in der ganzen Stadt Biel verteilt sind und im Rahmen eines Rundgangs besucht werden können. Seit 22 Jahren stellt das Festival neue Talente der zeitgenössischen Fotografie aus der ganzen Welt vor. Die Bieler Fototage haben sich zu einer Plattform für Begegnung und Austausch zwischen Fotografen und dem Publikum entwickelt, deren Ausstellungen und Begleitveranstaltungen die soziale Funktion der Fotografie und ihre zeitgenössischen Verwendungsformen hinterfragen.
Im Rahmen der Festlichkeiten des 1. Augusts hat die Stadt Biel als Ehrengast der Stadt Genf die Bieler Fototage dazu eingeladen, eine Ausstellung zu präsentieren. Das Festival wird einen visuellen Dialog zwischen zwei FotografInnen vorstellen, deren Bilder anlässlich der 22. Ausgabe des Festivals im Mai 2018 in Biel zu sehen waren. Ohne auf schockierende Bilder aus Kampfgebieten zu setzen, regen die beiden Fotografen zum Nachdenken über die komplexe Realität von Kriegen an.

Die Fotoserie Anatomy of Forgiveness von Lana Mesić (HR) setzt sich mit dem Genozid in Ruanda auseinander, der vor 20 Jahren ausbrach, und leistet dabei Erinnerungsarbeit. Die Fotoserie wurde von "Creative Court", einer nicht staatlichen Organisation in Auftrag gegeben, die künstlerische Projekte zu den Themen Frieden und Gerechtigkeit entwickelt. Die Arbeit setzt Begegnungen von Opfern und Tätern des damaligen Genozids in Szene, um dem Akt des Verzeihens ein Gesicht zu geben und ihn metaphorisch zu gewichten.

Die Fotoserie Nothing Personal von Nikita Teryoshin (RU) ihrerseits stellt Überlegungen zu Kriegswaffen-Messen an, bei denen die Aussteller Fachleuten ihre neusten "Innovationen" im Bereich Kriegsmaterial vorstellen. Die in Polen, Weissrussland, Frankreich und Südkorea aufgenommenen Bilder machen diese veritablen Spielwiesen für Erwachsene mit einem bissig-ironischen Ton sichtbar.
Die nächste Ausgabe der Bieler Fototage wird vom 10. Mai bis 2. Juni 2019 stattfinden.
Les Journées photographiques de Bienne, festival suisse de la photographie émergente, présentent chaque année durant trois semaines une vingtaine d’expositions de photographes suisses et internationaux sous la forme d’une balade dans la Ville de Bienne. Depuis 22 ans, le festival révèle des nouveaux talents du monde de la photographie contemporaine. Plate-forme de rencontres entre les photographes et le public, il propose des expositions et des événements qui permettent de questionner les fonctions sociales de la photographie et ses usages contemporains.
Invité par la Ville de Biennedans le cadre des festivités du 1er août de la Ville de Genève, le festival présentera une exposition photographique qui se déploiera ainsi du 1er au 12 août dans le parc et illustrera l’attachement de nos deux villes au soutien à la photographie. La prochaine édition des Journées photographiques de Bienne aura lieu du 10 mai au 2 juin 2019, tandis que Genève inaugurait en octobre passé No’photo, sa première nocturne photographique. En marge des champs de bataille et des images choc, les deux photographes choisis pour cette exposition proposent un temps de réflexion sur la réalité complexe qu’est la guerre.

La série photographique Anatom y of Forgiveness de Lana Mesić (HR) revient sur le génocide du Rwanda, 20 ans après, afin de faire un travail de mémoire. Commandée par la Cour pénale internationale, cette série photographique met en scène des rencontres entre les victimes et les bourreaux du génocide afin de donner un visage au pardon, puis de le mesurer, de manière métaphorique.

La série photographique Nothing Personal de Nikita Teryoshin (RU) propose uneréflexion sur les foires à l’armement de guerre dans lesquelles les exposants viennent présenter leurs dernières innovations en matière d’équipement militaire. Photographiés en Pologne, en Biélorussie et en Corée du Sud, ces véritables terrains de jeux pour adultes sont rendus visibles avec un ton grinçant et ironique.

Each year, the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, a Swiss festival dedicated to emerging photography, presents over the course of three weeks some 20 exhibitions of Swiss and international photographers in the form of a stroll through the town of Biel/ Bienne. For 22 years, the festival has been discovering new talents in the world of contemporary photography. As a platform for encounters between photographers and the public, it offers exhibitions and events that raise questions about the social functions of photography and its contemporary uses.
As a guest of honour of the City of Geneva at the festivities on August 1, the City of Biel/Bienne has invited the festival to put on an exhibition, which will present the converging views of two photographers who were exhibited in May 2018 as part of the 22nd edition of the festival. Away from the battlefield and its shocking images, these two photographers offer a moment of reflection on the complex realities of war.

Anatomy of Forgiveness by Lana Mesic (HR) returns to the Rwandan genocide 20 years after the fact to create a work of remembrance. This series of photos, which was commissioned by Creative Court, a non-governmental organization that develops art projects on themes of peace and justice, stages encounters between victims and perpetrators of the genocide in order to give a face to forgiveness, and then metaphorically to measure it.

The photo series Nothing Personal by Nikita Teryoshin (RU) presents a reflection on arms industry trade shows, where the exhibitors come to display to professionals their latest innovations in military equipment. Photographed in Poland, Belarus, France and South Korea, these trade shows seem like playgrounds for adults, and are depicted in a bitterly ironic tone.
The next edition of the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography will take place from May 10 to June 2, 2019.
