Die Fotografin, Videokünstlerin und Filmemacherin Fiona Tan (1966 Pekanbaru, ID) widmet sich in ihren künstlerischen Arbeiten den Themen Zeit, Geschichte und Erinnerung. Der Blick auf uns selbst und auf andere sind zentrale Themen in ihren Video-Installationen und Fotoarbeiten. Entscheidend für die Auseinandersetzung mit Identität und kultureller Prägung ist ihre eigene Biografie. Tan wurde in Indonesien geboren als Kind von chinesisch-australischen Eltern, wuchs in Australien auf und lebt heute in den Niederlanden. Die groß angelegte mid-career survey Fiona Tan. Mit der anderen Hand / With the other Hand ist eine Kooperation des Museum der Moderne Salzburg und der Kunsthalle Krems. Die Institutionen präsentieren eine unterschiedliche Werkauswahl mit jeweils sieben bis acht Video-Installationen und einer neuen Arbeit von Fiona Tan. Der Auftragsfilm für das Museum der Moderne Salzburg wird auf einem Gletscher in den österreichischen Alpen gedreht werden.
Die Ausstellung entsteht in Kooperation mit Kunsthalle Krems, die Fiona Tans Arbeiten von 21.11.2020 bis 14.02.2021 präsentiert.
In her works, the photographer, video artist and filmmaker Fiona Tan (1966 Pekanbaru, ID) dedicates herself to the themes of time, history and memory. Looking at ourselves and others are central themes in her video installations and photography. Decisive for the confrontation with identity and cultural character is her own biography. Tan was born in Indonesia as a child of Sino-Australian parents, grew up in Australia and now lives in the Netherlands. The exhibition Fiona Tan. Mit der anderen Hand / With the other Hand at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg and Kunsthalle Krems, which will run almost concurrently, is the first comprehensive mid-career retrospective of Fiona Tan. The institutions present a diverse selection of works, each with seven to eight video installations and a new work by Fiona Tan. A new filmic work is commissioned for the Museum der Moderne Salzburg and will be shot on a glacier in the Austrian Alps.
The exhibition is presented in cooperation with Kunsthalle Krems, which shows Fiona Tan's works from November 21, 2020—February 14, 2021.
