Japanische Fotografie der 1960er – 1970er-Jahre aus der Sammlung des Museum der Moderne Salzburg

Die Sammlung des Museum der Moderne Salzburg enthält ein exzellentes und umfangreiches Konvolut japanischer Fotografie der 1960er–1970er-Jahre. Dieses wurde 2018 in einer ersten Auswahl unter dem Titel I-Photo nach vielen Jahren erstmals wieder in einer Ausstellung präsentiert. Während es hierbei um die Darstellung des Menschen ging, wird die kommende Ausstellung das Leben und die Gesellschaft in der Stadt und auf dem Land vorstellen.
Das traditionelle Japan entwickelte sich in der Nachkriegszeit zu einer der weltweit größten Wirtschaftsmächte, die Städte wuchsen rasant und tradierte Lebensweisen wurden durch internationale Einflüsse in den Hintergrund gedrängt. Die Fotografen dieser Zeit dokumentierten und kommentierten mit ihren Bildern diese Entwicklung gleichermaßen und es entstand eine eigene japanische Bildkultur, die uns noch heute zum Staunen bringt.
One vital development in more recent Japanese art history has been the photography of the 1960s and 1970s. Photographers devised a novel visual idiom, an ambition that one of the most important photobooks of the period, Takuma Nakahira’s (1938―2015 Tokyo, JP) For a Language to Come, announces in its title: the formula encapsulates a radical break with the traditional conception of the picture.
The Museum der Moderne Salzburg has an outstanding collection of Japanese photography from this period. After a hiatus of many years, a selection was presented in 2018 in an exhibition titled I-Photo, which showcased representations of men and women. The upcoming sequel to that show, by contrast, will put the focus on portrayals of society and urban and rural life.
