Elfriede Mejchar. Grenzgängerin der Fotografie

Elfriede Mejchar (1924-2020) gilt als Grande Dame der österreichischen Fotografie. Sie erfuhr erst im hohen Alter die gebührende öffentliche Anerkennung. Die große Jubiläumsausstellung würdigt die Künstlerin anlässlich ihres 100. Geburtstags.

Elfriede Mejchar war fast vierzig Jahre im Dienst des österreichischen Bundesdenkmalamtes tätig. Ihre Aufgabe lag in der fotografischen Dokumentation von Baudenkmälern und Kunstwerken. Neben dem reichen Fundus an Fotografien, die dem Anspruch und der Ästhetik des Dokumentarischen folgen, umfasst Mejchars Œuvre auch eine Vielzahl von reinen Atelierarbeiten, deren Motivik von Pflanzenstudien über skurrile Stillleben bis hin zu Collagen und Experimenten mit Sandwichtechnik reicht.

Mit 35 Werkgruppen präsentiert die Retrospektive das facettenreiche, zwischen Dokumentation und Inszenierung oszillierende Schaffen der Fotografin. Von sachlichen Architekturaufnahmen bis zu Mejchars experimentellen Arbeiten sie Einblick in das Lebenswerk der Künstlerin und stellt sie als Person und ihre Techniken in den Fokus.

Die Werke stammen fast zur Gänze aus den Landessammlungen Niederösterreich, die 2013 das Lebenswerk von Mejchar als Schenkung erhalten haben.

Kooperation mit Wien und Salzburg

2024 widmen in Kooperation mit der Landesgalerie Niederösterreich auch das Wien Museum MUSA und das Museum der Moderne Salzburg der Fotografin Elfriede Mejchar Ausstellungen mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten. In Zusammenarbeit der drei Museen erscheint ein Fotobuch, das die unterschiedlichen Facetten des Gesamtwerks von Elfriede Mejchar vorstellt.

Elfriede Mejchar (1924-2020) est considérée comme la grande dame de la photographie autrichienne. Ce n'est qu'à un âge avancé qu'elle a obtenu la reconnaissance publique qu'elle méritait. La grande exposition anniversaire rend hommage à l'artiste à l'occasion de son centième anniversaire.

Elfriede Mejchar a travaillé pendant près de quarante ans au service de l'Office fédéral autrichien des monuments historiques. Sa mission consistait à documenter par la photographie les monuments historiques et les œuvres d'art. Outre le riche fonds de photographies qui suivent l'exigence et l'esthétique du documentaire, l'œuvre de Mejchar comprend également un grand nombre de travaux purement d'atelier, dont les motifs vont des études de plantes aux collages et aux expériences avec la technique du sandwich, en passant par des natures mortes bizarres.

Avec 35 groupes d'œuvres, la rétrospective présente les multiples facettes de l'œuvre de la photographe, qui oscille entre documentation et mise en scène. Des photos d'architecture objectives aux travaux expérimentaux de Mejchar, elle donne un aperçu de l'œuvre de l'artiste et met l'accent sur la personne et ses techniques.

La quasi-totalité des œuvres provient des collections du Land de Basse-Autriche, qui ont reçu l'œuvre de Mejchar en donation en 2013.

Coopération avec Vienne et Salzbourg

En 2024, le Wien Museum MUSA et le Museum der Moderne Salzburg consacreront, en coopération avec la Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, des expositions à la photographe Elfriede Mejchar, avec différents points forts. Un livre de photos présentant les différentes facettes de l'ensemble de l'œuvre d'Elfriede Mejchar est publié en collaboration entre les trois musées.

Elfriede Mejchar (1924-2020) è considerata la grande dama della fotografia austriaca. Ha ricevuto il riconoscimento pubblico che meritava solo in età avanzata. Questa grande mostra celebrativa rende omaggio all'artista in occasione del suo centesimo compleanno.

Elfriede Mejchar ha lavorato per l'Ufficio federale austriaco per i monumenti per quasi quarant'anni. Il suo compito era la documentazione fotografica di monumenti architettonici e opere d'arte. Oltre al ricco fondo di fotografie che seguono le esigenze e l'estetica del documentario, l'opera di Mejchar comprende anche un gran numero di lavori di puro studio i cui motivi spaziano da studi di piante e nature morte stravaganti a collage ed esperimenti con la tecnica del sandwich.

Con 35 gruppi di opere, la retrospettiva presenta l'opera poliedrica del fotografo, che oscilla tra documentazione e messa in scena. Dalle fotografie architettoniche concrete alle opere sperimentali di Mejchar, la mostra offre uno sguardo sul lavoro di una vita dell'artista e si concentra su di lei come persona e sulle sue tecniche.

Quasi tutte le opere provengono dalle Collezioni Provinciali della Bassa Austria, che hanno ricevuto in donazione l'opera di Mejchar nel 2013.

Cooperazione con Vienna e Salisburgo

Nel 2024, anche il Museo MUSA di Vienna e il Museum der Moderne di Salisburgo dedicheranno delle mostre alla fotografa Elfriede Mejchar in collaborazione con la Landesgalerie Niederösterreich. I tre musei collaborano alla pubblicazione di un libro fotografico che presenta le varie sfaccettature dell'opera di Elfriede Mejchar.

Elfriede Mejchar (1924-2020) is considered the grande dame of Austrian photography. She only received the public recognition she deserved in old age. This major anniversary exhibition honors the artist on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

Elfriede Mejchar worked for the Austrian Federal Monuments Office for almost forty years. Her task was the photographic documentation of architectural monuments and works of art. In addition to the rich fund of photographs that follow the demands and aesthetics of the documentary, Mejchar's oeuvre also includes a large number of pure studio works, whose motifs range from plant studies and whimsical still lifes to collages and experiments with the sandwich technique.

With 35 groups of works, the retrospective presents the photographer's multifaceted oeuvre, which oscillates between documentation and staging. From factual architectural photographs to Mejchar's experimental works, it provides an insight into the artist's life's work and focuses on her as a person and her techniques.

Almost all of the works come from the Provincial Collections of Lower Austria, which received Mejchar's life's work as a donation in 2013.

Gabriele Engelhardt. Kremser Berge

Gabriele Engelhardt (geb. 1967) greift in ihrer Kunst menschliche Eingriffe in die Natur als Skulpturen oder Installationen auf. In ihren Landschaften zeigt sie etwa Schrottberge in Industriezonen oder Sprungschanzen.

Die Künstlerin arbeitet mit dem Medium der Fotografie, wobei sie ihre Aufnahmen digital nachbearbeitet und mehrere Fotos eines Motivs zusammenfügt. Die Werke sind demnach keine Dokumentationen der Realität. In ihren „Berge“-Serien begreift sie Berge nicht als Gebirge im eigentlichen Sinn, sondern als Anhäufungen von Material wie Metallabfall oder Baurohstoffe. Die Arbeiten erinnern an Claude Monets Heuhaufen-Impressionen, aber auch an Bernd und Hilla Bechers Typologien der Wassertürme als Zeichen des industriellen Niedergangs.

Gabriele Engelhardt studierte auf der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart Bildhauerei und an der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe Fotografie und Szenografie. 2022 war sie im Rahmen von AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich zu Gast in Krems. Hier, im industriellen Umfeld des Donauhafens an der Stadteinfahrt, ist das Kremser Berge-Projekt entstanden.

AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich ist ein internationales Stipendienprogramm. Es ermöglicht bildenden Künstler:innen, Architekt:innen, Musiker:innen und Schriftsteller:innen temporär in Niederösterreich zu wohnen, zu arbeiten und die Vielfalt der heimischen Kulturlandschaft kennenzulernen. Im Gegenzug organisiert AIR für niederösterreichische Künstler:innen im Rahmen eines institutionellen Austausches Auslandsaufenthalte in Europa und Übersee.

Gabriele Engelhardt (née en 1967) reprend dans son art les interventions humaines dans la nature sous forme de sculptures ou d'installations. Dans ses paysages, elle montre par exemple des montagnes de ferraille dans des zones industrielles ou des tremplins.

L'artiste travaille avec le médium de la photographie, en retravaillant numériquement ses prises de vue et en assemblant plusieurs photos d'un même motif. Les œuvres ne sont donc pas des documentations de la réalité. Dans ses séries "Montagnes", elle ne conçoit pas les montagnes comme des montagnes au sens propre du terme, mais comme des accumulations de matériaux tels que des déchets métalliques ou des matériaux de construction. Ces œuvres rappellent les impressions de meules de foin de Claude Monet, mais aussi les typologies de châteaux d'eau de Bernd et Hilla Becher, signes du déclin industriel.

Gabriele Engelhardt a étudié la sculpture à la Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart et la photographie et la scénographie à la Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe. En 2022, elle a été invitée à Krems dans le cadre de AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich. C'est ici, dans l'environnement industriel du port du Danube à l'entrée de la ville, qu'est né le projet Kremser Berge.

AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich est un programme de bourses international. Il permet à des artistes plasticiens, des architectes, des musiciens et des écrivains de vivre et de travailler temporairement en Basse-Autriche et de découvrir la diversité du paysage culturel local. En contrepartie, AIR organise pour les artistes de Basse-Autriche des séjours en Europe et outre-mer dans le cadre d'un échange institutionnel.

Nella sua arte, Gabriele Engelhardt (nata nel 1967) riprende gli interventi umani nella natura come sculture o installazioni. Nei suoi paesaggi, ad esempio, mostra cumuli di rottami in zone industriali o piste da sci.

L'artista lavora con il mezzo fotografico, rielaborando digitalmente le sue immagini e combinando diverse foto di uno stesso motivo. Le opere non sono quindi documentazioni della realtà. Nella serie "Mountains", l'artista non intende le montagne nel vero senso della parola, ma come accumuli di materiale, come rifiuti metallici o materiali da costruzione. Le opere ricordano le impressioni dei pagliai di Claude Monet, ma anche le tipologie di torri d'acqua di Bernd e Hilla Becher come segno di declino industriale.

Gabriele Engelhardt ha studiato scultura all'Accademia di Stato di Stoccarda e fotografia e scenografia all'Università di Arti e Design di Karlsruhe. Nel 2022 è stata ospite a Krems nell'ambito di AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria. Qui, nell'ambiente industriale del porto del Danubio all'ingresso della città, è stato creato il progetto Kremser Berge.

AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria è un programma internazionale di borse di studio. Consente ad artisti visivi, architetti, musicisti e scrittori di vivere e lavorare temporaneamente in Bassa Austria e di familiarizzare con la diversità del paesaggio culturale locale. In cambio, AIR organizza soggiorni all'estero in Europa e all'estero per gli artisti della Bassa Austria nell'ambito di uno scambio istituzionale.

In her art, Gabriele Engelhardt (born 1967) takes up human interventions in nature as sculptures or installations. In her landscapes, for example, she shows scrap heaps in industrial zones or ski jumps.

The artist works with the medium of photography, digitally reworking her images and combining several photos of a single motif. The works are therefore not documentations of reality. In her "Mountains" series, she does not understand mountains as mountains in the true sense of the word, but as accumulations of material such as metal waste or building materials. The works are reminiscent of Claude Monet's haystack impressions, but also of Bernd and Hilla Becher's typologies of water towers as a sign of industrial decline.

Gabriele Engelhardt studied sculpture at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts and photography and scenography at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. In 2022, she was a guest in Krems as part of AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria. Here, in the industrial environment of the Danube port at the entrance to the city, the Kremser Berge project was created.

AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria is an international scholarship program. It enables visual artists, architects, musicians and writers to live and work temporarily in Lower Austria and get to know the diversity of the local cultural landscape. In return, AIR organizes stays abroad in Europe and overseas for Lower Austrian artists as part of an institutional exchange.

Anna und Bernhard Blume. Ver-rückte Welt

Das deutsche Künstlerpaar Anna und Bernhard Blume (1936 – 2020 und 1937 – 2011) ist international für seine Schwarzweißfotografien bekannt.

Das Paar inszenierte performative Aktionen und hielt diese per Kamera fest. Es sind meist häusliche Szenen, skurril arrangiert. Dabei sind die beiden Künstler:innen selbst die Performer, sie schlüpfen in eine bürgerliche Staffage – sie mit Dauerwelle, Perücke und adrettem Kleidchen, er im kleinkarierten Anzug und mit Hut. Geschlechtermuster, Rollen und Klischees sowie Verhaltenskodexe des Bürgerlichen werden von den Blumes ironisch und durchaus komisch konterkariert. Da fliegen Kartoffeln durch die Luft, Scherben zerbrochener Teller bedecken den Küchenfußboden, Möbelkonstrukte brechen zusammen und Personen mit verzerrten Gesichtern hantieren mit allerlei Alltagsgegenständen. Was die Menschen auf den Bildern tun, ist alles andere als Regelkonform, es ist im besten Sinn ver–rückt.

Von der Bildkomposition über die Aufnahme bis zur Entwicklung und Vergrößerung der Fotos im Labor führten Anna und Bernhard Blume jeden Schritt des künstlerischen Prozesses selbst durch. Sie erweiterten die künstlerische Fotografie durch die performative Inszenierung. Mit ihren Fotoserien persiflieren sie die kleinbürgerliche Welt der 1970er- und 1980er-Jahre. Inspiriert wurde das Paar dabei maßgeblich vom Aktionismus der 1960er-Jahre.

Anna und Bernhard Blume lernten sich als Student:innen der Staatlichen Kunstakademie Düsseldorf kennen, wo beide von 1960 bis 1965 studierten. Das Paar lebte und arbeitete in Köln. Ihre Arbeiten wurden bislang in internationalen Museen wie dem Museum of Modern Art in New York oder im Centre Pompidou in Paris gezeigt.

Die Ausstellung in der Kunsthalle Krems zeigt groß- und mittelformatige Serien von Schwarzweißfotografien, ergänzt durch eine kleine Auswahl an farbigen Polaroids.

Le couple d'artistes allemands Anna et Bernhard Blume (1936 - 2020 et 1937 - 2011) est connu internationalement pour ses photographies en noir et blanc.

Le couple mettait en scène des actions performatives et les enregistrait à l'aide d'un appareil photo. Il s'agit le plus souvent de scènes domestiques, arrangées de manière bizarre. Les deux artistes sont eux-mêmes les interprètes, ils se glissent dans un décor bourgeois - elle avec une permanente, une perruque et une jolie petite robe, lui avec un costume à petits carreaux et un chapeau. Les modèles de genre, les rôles et les clichés ainsi que les codes de comportement du bourgeois sont contrecarrés par les Blume de manière ironique et tout à fait comique. Des pommes de terre volent dans les airs, des morceaux d'assiettes cassées recouvrent le sol de la cuisine, des constructions de meubles s'effondrent et des personnes aux visages déformés manipulent toutes sortes d'objets du quotidien. Ce que font les personnes sur les photos est tout sauf conforme aux règles, c'est fou dans le meilleur sens du terme.

De la composition de l'image au développement et à l'agrandissement des photos en laboratoire, en passant par la prise de vue, Anna et Bernhard Blume ont réalisé eux-mêmes chaque étape du processus artistique. Ils ont élargi la photographie artistique à la mise en scène performative. Avec leurs séries de photos, ils satirisent le monde petit-bourgeois des années 1970 et 1980. Le couple s'est largement inspiré de l'actionnisme des années 1960.

Anna et Bernhard Blume se sont rencontrés alors qu'ils étaient étudiants à la Staatliche Kunstakademie de Düsseldorf, où ils ont tous deux étudié de 1960 à 1965. Le couple a vécu et travaillé à Cologne. Jusqu'à présent, leurs travaux ont été exposés dans des musées internationaux comme le Museum of Modern Art de New York ou le Centre Pompidou de Paris.

L'exposition à la Kunsthalle Krems présente des séries de photographies en noir et blanc de grand et moyen format, complétées par une petite sélection de polaroïds en couleur.

La coppia di artisti tedeschi Anna e Bernhard Blume (1936-2020 e 1937-2011) è riconosciuta a livello internazionale per le sue fotografie in bianco e nero.

La coppia mette in scena azioni performative e le riprende con la macchina fotografica. Si tratta per lo più di scene domestiche, organizzate in modo stravagante. I due artisti stessi sono gli interpreti e si calano in uno staffage borghese: lei con la permanente, la parrucca e un vestito elegante, lui con un piccolo abito a quadri e un cappello. I modelli di genere, i ruoli e i cliché, così come i codici di comportamento borghesi, sono ironicamente e comicamente contrastati dai Blume. Le patate volano in aria, i cocci dei piatti rotti ricoprono il pavimento della cucina, le costruzioni dei mobili crollano e le persone con i volti distorti maneggiano ogni tipo di oggetto quotidiano. Quello che fanno le persone nelle immagini è tutt'altro che conforme alle regole, è folle nel senso migliore del termine.

Anna e Bernhard Blume hanno eseguito in prima persona tutte le fasi del processo artistico, dalla composizione delle immagini allo scatto delle foto, allo sviluppo e all'ingrandimento in laboratorio. Hanno ampliato la fotografia artistica attraverso la messa in scena performativa. Con le loro serie fotografiche, fanno satira sul mondo piccolo borghese degli anni Settanta e Ottanta. La coppia si ispira in larga misura all'azionismo degli anni Sessanta.

Anna e Bernhard Blume si sono conosciuti come studenti della Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, dove hanno studiato entrambi dal 1960 al 1965. La coppia ha vissuto e lavorato a Colonia. Le loro opere sono state esposte in musei internazionali come il Museum of Modern Art di New York e il Centre Pompidou di Parigi.

La mostra alla Kunsthalle Krems presenta serie di fotografie in bianco e nero di grande e medio formato, integrate da una piccola selezione di Polaroid a colori.

The German artist couple Anna and Bernhard Blume (1936 - 2020 and 1937 - 2011) are internationally renowned for their black and white photographs.

The couple staged performative actions and captured them on camera. They are mostly domestic scenes, whimsically arranged. The two artists themselves are the performers, they slip into a bourgeois staffage - she with a perm, wig and smart dress, he in a small checked suit and hat. Gender patterns, roles and clichés as well as codes of bourgeois behavior are ironically and quite comically counteracted by the Blumes. Potatoes fly through the air, shards of broken plates cover the kitchen floor, furniture structures collapse and people with distorted faces handle all kinds of everyday objects. What the people in the pictures are doing is anything but conforming to the rules, it is crazy in the best sense of the word.

Anna and Bernhard Blume carried out every step of the artistic process themselves, from composing and taking the pictures to developing and enlarging the photos in the laboratory. They expanded artistic photography through performative staging. With their photo series, they satirize the petit bourgeois world of the 1970s and 1980s. The couple were largely inspired by the actionism of the 1960s.

Anna and Bernhard Blume met as students at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where they both studied from 1960 to 1965. The couple lived and worked in Cologne. Their works have been shown in international museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Center Pompidou in Paris.

The exhibition at the Kunsthalle Krems shows large and medium format series of black and white photographs, complemented by a small selection of color Polaroids.
