La natura ama nascondersi
Fotografia Europea ist wieder da. Das internationale Festival in Reggio Emilia, das in 18 Ausgaben einige der größten Meister der Fotografie ausgestellt und neue Talente entdeckt hat und Tausende von Enthusiasten und Fachleuten aus der ganzen Welt angezogen hat, kehrt vom 26. April bis zum 9. Juni 2024 mit Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und Shows in die Stadt zurück, die einem Thema gewidmet sind, das uns alle angeht: die Natur.
Nature Loves to Hide ist der Titel, den die künstlerische Leitung des Festivals, bestehend aus Tim Clark (Redakteur von 1000 Words und Kurator von Photo London Discovery), Walter Guadagnini (Fotohistoriker und Direktor von CAMERA - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia) und Luce Lebart (Fotohistorikerin, Ausstellungskuratorin und Forscherin sowohl für die Archive of Modern Conflict Collection als auch unabhängig davon) für die 19.
Die Natur verbirgt ihr Wesen vor unseren Sinnen, offenbart aber ihre Kraft auf manchmal zarte, manchmal zerstörerische Weise, in einem kontinuierlichen Prozess, der als Oszillation zwischen Sein und Werden verstanden werden kann. Der Mensch, der Teil der Natur ist, sucht nach dem Wesen der Dinge, die ihn umgeben, seien es Pflanzen, Tiere, Felsen, Flüsse oder Wettersysteme, um ihr Wesen zu entdecken und gleichzeitig sich selbst zu verstehen.
Alle Lebewesen sind miteinander in einem "globalen Körper" verbunden, dessen Grenzen sich auflösen oder durchdringen. Dennoch nimmt jedes Lebewesen die Wirklichkeit als vielfältig und veränderlich, fragmentiert und begrenzt wahr, denn die Sinne sind unterschiedlich und hängen vom Überlebensinstinkt jedes Einzelnen ab. Der menschliche Geist ist sogar in der Lage, die Wahrheit vor sich selbst zu verbergen, vor seiner eigenen wahren Natur, außer vielleicht im Moment des Träumens.
Heraklit wies auf dieses paradoxe Verhalten in seinem berühmten Fragment hin: "Die Natur liebt es, sich zu verstecken".
Die Fotografia Europea 2024 will daher die Zusammenhänge zwischen Verbergen und Entdecken erforschen: Die zahlreichen prestigeträchtigen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen dieser Ausgabe werden das Gefühl der Dualität oder Interdependenz als wesentlichen Bestandteil des Lebens auf der Erde thematisieren und dabei auch die positiven oder transformativen Handlungen ansprechen, die der Mensch jenseits der vorherrschenden Kontrollhaltung unserer Spezies unternehmen kann. In diesem Prozess wird das Individuum enthüllt und gleichzeitig ein ökozentrisches Bewusstsein zelebriert, das neue Erzählungen, Formen und Interpretationen vorstellt und die verschiedenen Arten präsentiert, in denen sich Konzepte der Natur durch zeitgenössische Fotografie und Film manifestieren.
Um die Vorschläge von Kuratoren und Fotografen aus ganz Europa zu sondieren, wird heute, am 30. November, offiziell der internationale Aufruf gestartet, der jedes Jahr aufstrebende und professionelle Fotografen dazu ermutigt, sich durch die Linse mit ihrem gewählten Thema zu messen.
Die bedeutendsten Werke erhalten die Möglichkeit, am offiziellen Rundgang der Fotografia Europea 2024 teilzunehmen, der vom 26. April bis zum 9. Juni in Reggio Emilia stattfindet, und ein Preisgeld von 3 000 Euro zu erhalten, mit dem die Kosten für Produktion, Installation, Transport, Unterkunft und Verpflegung während der Eröffnungstage gedeckt werden. Die Gewinner können dann mit den Mitarbeitern des Festivals an der Verwirklichung der endgültigen Installation arbeiten. Der Open Call bestätigt sich somit als konkrete Gelegenheit für Wachstum und Sichtbarkeit, die es bereits in seiner siebten Auflage vielen aufstrebenden Fotografen ermöglicht hat, sich in der internationalen Fotoszene zu etablieren, und die ihrerseits dank der neuen Visionen, die zu den vorgeschlagenen Themen eingebracht werden, zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil des Festivals geworden ist. Die Teilnahme steht bis zum 8. Januar 2024 allen Fotografen, europäischen Kuratoren und Kollektiven jeden Alters offen, und die eingereichten Projekte werden von der künstlerischen Leitung des Festivals bewertet.
Die Unterstützung von Iren für die internationale Ausschreibung von Fotografia Europea ist bestätigt. Iren ist bereits ein besonderer Sponsor des Festivals und bekräftigt mit diesem besonderen Projekt sein Engagement und damit seine Unterstützung für die Suche nach neuen Talenten und neuen Blicken auf die zeitgenössische Realität.

Le festival international de Reggio Emilia qui, en 18 éditions, a exposé certains des plus grands maîtres de la photographie et découvert de nouveaux talents, attirant des milliers de passionnés et de professionnels du monde entier, revient dans la ville du 26 avril au 9 juin 2024 avec des expositions, des événements et des spectacles dédiés à un thème qui ne peut que nous concerner tous : la nature.
Nature Loves to Hide est le titre choisi par la direction artistique du festival, composée de Tim Clark (rédacteur en chef de 1000 Words et commissaire de Photo London Discovery), Walter Guadagnini (historien de la photographie et directeur de CAMERA - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia) et Luce Lebart (historienne de la photographie, commissaire d'exposition et chercheuse pour la collection Archive of Modern Conflict et indépendamment) pour la 19e édition de Fotografia Europea.
La nature dissimule son essence à nos sens, mais révèle sa puissance de manière parfois délicate, parfois destructrice, dans un processus continu qui peut être compris comme une oscillation entre l'être et le devenir. L'être humain, qui fait partie de la nature, recherche l'essence des choses qui l'entourent, qu'il s'agisse de plantes, d'animaux, de roches, de rivières ou de systèmes météorologiques, afin de découvrir leur nature et, simultanément, de se comprendre lui-même.
Tous les êtres vivants sont reliés les uns aux autres dans un "corps global", dont les frontières se dissolvent ou s'interpénètrent. Cependant, chaque créature perçoit la réalité comme multiple et changeante, fragmentée et limitée, parce que les sens sont différents et dépendent de l'instinct de survie de chacun. L'esprit humain a même la capacité de se cacher la vérité à lui-même, à sa propre nature, sauf peut-être au moment où il rêve.
Héraclite a souligné ce comportement paradoxal dans son célèbre fragment : "La nature aime à se cacher".
Fotografia Europea 2024 vise donc à explorer les interconnexions entre la dissimulation et la découverte : les nombreuses et prestigieuses expositions individuelles et collectives de cette édition thématiseront le sens de la dualité ou de l'interdépendance en tant qu'élément essentiel de la vie sur terre, évoquant également les actions positives ou transformatrices que les êtres humains peuvent entreprendre, en dehors de l'attitude dominante de contrôle qu'exerce notre espèce. Dans ce processus, l'individu est révélé et, en même temps, une conscience écocentrique est célébrée, imaginant de nouvelles narrations, formes et interprétations, présentant les différentes manières dont les concepts de nature se manifestent à travers la photographie et le cinéma contemporains.
Pour commencer à échantillonner les propositions des conservateurs et des photographes de toute l'Europe, à partir d'aujourd'hui, 30 novembre, l'appel international sera officiellement lancé, qui encourage chaque année les photographes émergents et professionnels à se mesurer, à travers l'objectif, au thème qu'ils ont choisi.
Les œuvres les plus significatives auront la possibilité, si elles sont sélectionnées, de faire partie du circuit officiel de l'édition 2024 de Fotografia Europea, à Reggio Emilia du 26 avril au 9 juin, et de recevoir un prix de 3 000 euros qui servira à couvrir les frais de production, d'installation, de transport, de restauration et d'hébergement pour les journées d'ouverture. Les lauréats pourront ensuite travailler avec l'équipe du Festival à la réalisation de l'installation finale. L'Open Call se confirme ainsi comme une opportunité concrète de croissance et de visibilité qui, pour sa septième édition, a déjà permis à de nombreux photographes émergents de s'affirmer sur la scène photographique internationale et qui, à son tour, est devenu un élément important du festival, grâce aux nouvelles visions apportées aux thèmes proposés. La participation est ouverte à tous les photographes jusqu'au 8 janvier 2024, aux curateurs européens et aux collectifs de tout âge, et les projets reçus seront évalués par la direction artistique du festival.
Le soutien d'Iren à l'appel international ouvert de Fotografia Europea est confirmé : déjà sponsor spécial du festival, Iren épouse ce projet particulier pour réaffirmer son engagement et donc son soutien à la recherche de nouveaux talents et de nouveaux regards sur la réalité contemporaine.

Il festival internazionale di Reggio Emilia, che in 18 edizioni ha esposto alcuni tra i più grandi maestri della fotografia e scoperto nuovi talenti richiamando migliaia di appassionati e professionisti da tutto il mondo, ritorna in città dal 26 aprile al 9 giugno 2024 con mostre, eventi e spettacoli dedicati ad un tema che non può non riguardarci tutti: la Natura.
La natura ama nascondersi è il titolo scelto dalla direzione artistica del Festival composta da Tim Clark (editor 1000 Words & curator Photo London Discovery), Walter Guadagnini (storico della fotografia e Direttore di CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia) e Luce Lebart (storica della fotografia, curatrice di mostre e ricercatrice sia per la Collezione dell’Archive of Modern Conflict che in modo indipendente) per la XIX edizione di Fotografia Europea.
La natura cela la sua essenza ai nostri sensi, ma rivela la sua potenza in modi talvolta delicati, talvolta distruttivi,, in un processo continuo che può essere inteso come un’oscillazione tra l’essere e il divenire. L’essere umano, che è parte della natura, ricerca l’essenza delle cose che lo circondano, siano esse piante, animali, rocce, fiumi e sistemi meteorologici, nel tentativo di scoprirne la natura e contemporaneamente di capire se stesso.
Tutti gli esseri viventi sono collegati fra loro in un “corpo globale”, i cui confini si dissolvono o si compenetrano. Tuttavia, ciascuna creatura percepisce la realtà come molteplice e mutevole, frammentata e limitata, perché i sensi sono diversi e dipendono dall’istinto di sopravvivenza di ognuno. La mente umana ha persino la capacità di nascondere la verità a se stessa, alla propria vera natura, tranne, forse, nel momento in cui sogna.
Eraclito ha indicato questo comportamento paradossale nel celebre frammento: “La natura ama nascondersi”.
Fotografia Europea 2024 si propone di esplorare, dunque, le interconnessioni fra occultamento e scoperta: le tante, prestigiose mostre personali e collettive di questa edizione tematizzeranno il senso del doppio o della interdipendenza come parte essenziale della vita sulla terra, evocando anche le azioni positive o di trasformazione che gli esseri umani possono intraprendere, al di fuori dall’atteggiamento di controllo dominante che la nostra specie esercita. In questo processo si rivela l’individuo e, insieme, si celebra una coscienza ecocentrica, immaginando nuove narrazioni, forme e interpretazioni, presentando i vari modi in cui i concetti di natura si manifestano attraverso la fotografia e il cinema contemporanei.
Per iniziare a saggiare le proposte di curatori e fotografi da tutta Europa, a partire da oggi, 30 novembre sarà dato il via ufficiale alla call internazionale che ogni anno spinge emergenti e professionisti a misurarsi, attraverso l’obiettivo, con il tema scelto.
Ai lavori più significativi sarà data la possibilità, se selezionati, di partecipare al circuito ufficiale dell’edizione 2024 di Fotografia Europea, a Reggio Emilia dal 26 aprile al 9 giugno e di ricevere un premio di € 3.000 che servirà a coprire i costi di produzione, installazione, trasporti, vitto e alloggio per i giorni inaugurali. I vincitori potranno così lavorare in contatto con lo staff del Festival alla realizzazione dell’installazione finale. La Open call si conferma un’opportunità concreta di crescita e di visibilità, dunque, che, giunta alla sua settima edizione, ha già permesso a molti fotografi emergenti di affermarsi nel panorama fotografico internazionale e che è a sua volta diventata, grazie alle nuove visioni apportate sulle tematiche proposte, una parte significativa del festival. La partecipazione è aperta a tutti i fotografi fino all’8 gennaio 2024, i curatori e collettivi europei di qualsiasi età e i progetti ricevuti saranno valutati dalla direzione artistica del festival.
Confermato il supporto di Iren alla Open call internazionale di Fotografia Europea che, già special sponsor del festival, sposa questo progetto particolare per ribadire l’impegno e dunque il sostegno alla ricerca di nuovi talenti e di nuovi sguardi sulla realtà contemporanea.

The international festival in Reggio Emilia, which in 18 editions has exhibited some of the greatest masters of photography and discovered new talents, attracting thousands of enthusiasts and professionals from all over the world, returns to the city from April 26 to June 9, 2024 with exhibitions, events and performances dedicated to a theme that cannot fail to concern us all: Nature.
Nature loves to hide is the title chosen by the Festival's artistic direction composed of Tim Clark (editor 1000 Words & curator Photo London Discovery), Walter Guadagnini (photography historian and Director of CAMERA - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia) and Luce Lebart (photography historian, exhibition curator and researcher for both the Archive of Modern Conflict Collection and independently) for the 19th edition of Fotografia Europea.
Nature conceals its essence from our senses, but reveals its power in ways that are sometimes delicate, sometimes destructive,, in an ongoing process that can be understood as an oscillation between being and becoming. Human beings, who are part of nature, search for the essence of the things around them, be they plants, animals, rocks, rivers and weather systems, in an attempt to discover their nature and simultaneously understand themselves.
All living things are connected to each other in a "global body," whose boundaries dissolve or interpenetrate. However, each creature perceives reality as multiple and changing, fragmented and limited, because the senses are different and depend on each one's survival instinct. The human mind even has the ability to hide the truth from itself, from its own true nature, except, perhaps, at the moment when it dreams.
Heraclitus indicated this paradoxical behavior in the famous fragment, "Nature loves to hide."
European Photography 2024 aims to explore, then, the interconnections between concealment and discovery: the many, prestigious solo and group exhibitions of this edition will thematize the sense of duality or interdependence as an essential part of life on earth, while also evoking the positive or transformative actions that human beings can undertake, outside the dominant controlling attitude that our species exercises. In this process, the individual is revealed and, together, an ecocentric consciousness is celebrated, imagining new narratives, forms and interpretations, presenting the various ways in which concepts of nature are manifested through contemporary photography and film.
To begin sampling submissions from curators and photographers from across Europe, starting today, Nov. 30, the international call for submissions will be officially kicked off, prompting emerging and professional photographers each year to measure themselves through the lens against their chosen theme.
The most significant works will be given the chance, if selected, to take part in the official circuit of the 2024 edition of Fotografia Europea, in Reggio Emilia from April 26 to June 9, and to receive a prize of €3,000 that will be used to cover the costs of production, installation, transportation, room and board for the opening days. The winners will then be able to work in contact with the Festival staff on the realization of the final installation. The Open Call is thus confirmed as a concrete opportunity for growth and visibility, which, now in its seventh edition, has already allowed many emerging photographers to establish themselves on the international photographic scene and which has in turn become, thanks to the new visions brought to bear on the proposed themes, a significant part of the festival. Participation is open to all photographers until January 8, 2024, European curators and collectives of any age, and the projects received will be evaluated by the festival's artistic direction.
Confirmed Iren's support to the international Open call of Fotografia Europea, which, already a special sponsor of the festival, marries this particular project to reaffirm its commitment and therefore support to the search for new talents and new looks at contemporary reality.
