Die erste Fotoausstellung für Kinder in Polen und Premieren von Projekten von Weronika Gęsicka, Przemek Dzienis, Magda Hueckel und Grzegorz Wełnicki - das sind einige der Höhepunkte von Fotofestiwal, das vom 13. bis 23. Juni 2024 wieder in Łódź stattfindet.

Die 23. Ausgabe von Fotofestiwal wird in der ganzen Stadt Łódź stattfinden und wie in den vergangenen Jahren dazu einladen, die Landschaften der polnischen und internationalen zeitgenössischen Fotografie zu betrachten. Die meisten der im Festivalzentrum ausgestellten Projekte werden zum ersten und einzigen Mal während des Fotofestiwal in Polen präsentiert. Neben den 29 Fotoprojekten umfasst das Festivalprogramm zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, Konzerte, Filmvorführungen und Branchentreffen.

I - Vier Premieren von polnischen Künstlern, die im Mittelpunkt des diesjährigen Programms stehen.

Weronika Gęsicka wird ihre neuesten Kreationen vorstellen. In ihrem Projekt ENCYCLOPAEDIA erzählt sie von besonders interessanten Beispielen nichtexistierender Personen und Phänomene, die aufgrund von Fehlern und gefälschten Einträgen in verschiedenen Enzyklopädien und Lexika weltweit bekannt wurden. Ihr vorheriges Projekt Traces, mit dem sie weltweit bekannt wurde, bestand aus nahtlosen Collagen alter amerikanischer Fotos aus den 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Dieses Mal hat sie beschlossen, ihr Projekt mit Hilfe von Archivfotos und KI-Tools zu entwickeln. Ihre Arbeiten werden in der Galerie Re:Medium in Zusammenarbeit mit der Galerie JEDNOSTKA ausgestellt.

Przemek Dzienis ist bekannt für seine konzeptionelle Fotografie, die man vielleicht vom Pariser Fotoposter 2010 kennt, das aufgrund seiner einzigartigen visuellen Form und der Kombination mit Installationen und Skulpturen ausgewählt wurde. Nach langjähriger Abwesenheit in der Kunstszene hat er ein Projekt speziell für Fotofestiwal vorbereitet. Es wird seine erste Arbeit sein, die sich auf räumliche Objekte konzentriert. Dobry Żal/Good Regret ist eine subversive Reflexion über vergangene Erinnerungen. Die Aufzeichnungen von Erinnerungen werden in Bilder und dann in Objekte mit faszinierenden Strukturen, körperähnlichen Formen und verzerrten Klängen verwandelt. Die Ausstellung wird in Kamienica Hilarego Majewskiego, der neuesten Kunstinstitution in Lodz, präsentiert.

Magda Hueckel ist bildende Künstlerin, Regisseurin und Theaterfotografin. Sie wird einen Beitrag zur Diskussion über die Darstellung des weiblichen Körpers in der polnischen Kultur leisten, indem sie eine Reihe von Collagen mit Bildern aus Fotoarchiven und Zeitungen erstellt.

Grzegorz Wełnicki (Rats Agency, Archive of Public Protests) wird das 13 Jahre währende Kapitel seiner künstlerischen Arbeit zum Thema Tod mit einer Einzelausstellung in der Galerie der Lodzer Filmschule abschließen.

II - Fotofestiwal für Kinder

Fotografia jest wszędzie/Fotografie ist überall, eine den Kindern gewidmete Ausstellung, hat in Łódź Premiere. Wir werden uns einige interessante Fragen stellen: Wie sähe die Welt aus, wenn die Fotografie nie erfunden worden wäre? Was würden wir ohne Fotos nie erfahren? Die Kuratorinnen der Ausstellung (Marta Szymańska, Katarzyna Sagatowska und Monika Szewczyk-Wittek) werden uns die Werke bekannter Künstlerinnen und Künstler wie Carolle Benitah, Karolina Jonderko, Kacper Kowalski, Gabriele Galimberti und vieler anderer in einem völlig neuen Kontext zeigen.

III - Stars der internationalen Fotografie sprechen über Befreiung

"Wir achten stets darauf, nicht nur Fotos zu zeigen und die einzigartigen Persönlichkeiten dahinter ins Rampenlicht zu rücken, sondern auch die Frage zu stellen, worum es in der Fotografie eigentlich geht", sagt Marta Szymańska, Mitglied des Fotofestiwal-Programmvorstands. "In diesem Jahr schauen wir uns die Geschichten vieler Autoren genauer an, für die die Fotografie zu einer Möglichkeit geworden ist, mit Widrigkeiten und schwierigen Erfahrungen umzugehen. Wir freuen uns auch über weniger intime Arbeiten, in denen die Urheber mit Hilfe von Bildern über Transformation und das Ausbrechen aus starren Normen wie dem Patriarchat oder der Religion sprechen." Befreiung ist das Hauptmotiv, das die sechs im Festivalzentrum präsentierten Einzelausstellungen internationaler Künstler miteinander verbindet.

Martin Kollar ist einer der bemerkenswertesten zeitgenössischen slowakischen Fotografen. Er nutzte sein eigenes Fotoarchiv, um über die Erfahrung des Todes eines geliebten Menschen zu sprechen. Das berührende und mutige Projekt After ist das Ergebnis dieses Prozesses. Eine weitere Künstlerin, deren Werke ausgestellt werden, ist Gloria Oyarzabal, eine Preisträgerin des Grand Prix Fotofestiwal 2020. Die spanische Fotografin interessiert sich für das Thema des kolonialen Erbes des Westens. In diesem Jahr wird sie sich auf die unterdrückerische Rolle der Museen in der internationalen Kultur konzentrieren. Diego Moreno bringt die Perspektive, den Sinn für Humor und den knallharten Stil mit, mit denen er in den letzten Jahren die internationale Szene begeistert hat (z. B. beim renommierten Foam Talent 2022). Er wird unsere Aufmerksamkeit auf die christlichen Untertöne und Belastungen der mexikanischen Kultur lenken. Der Schweizer Künstler Lukas Hoffman kehrt mit seinen schönen, abstrakten Bildern zu den Wurzeln der Fotografie zurück. Seine Werke laden den Betrachter ein, sich einen Moment Zeit zu nehmen, um innezuhalten und sich von der Hektik des Alltags zu befreien.

IV - Albanien, Bosnien und die Länder, die es nicht mehr gibt - die interessantesten fotografischen Themen der Saison im Open Call

Der Open Call ist ein weiterer Teil des Rückblicks auf die internationale Fotoszene und umfasst sechs Projekte, die aus 1200 Einsendungen ausgewählt wurden. In dieser Sektion befassen sich die Künstler mit Themen wie der komplizierten und schwierigen Geschichte des albanischen Regimes (Camilla de Maffei's The Great Father) oder der Geschichte von Bosnien und Herzegowina in der Nachkriegszeit (Adrien Selbert's The Real Edges). An Atlas of Countries That Don't Exist ist ein Projekt des italienischen Künstlerduos Lavinia Parlamenti und Manfredi Pantanell, das sich mit fünf Regionen befasst, deren Unabhängigkeit und Identität international nicht anerkannt wurde.

V - Die Ukraine und Weißrussland sind als gute Freunde des Festivals vertreten.

Sowohl die Ukraine als auch Weißrussland sind in diesem Jahr mit einer Fotobuch-Ausstellung vertreten, die beide Festivals in ein anderes Format einrahmt als in den letzten beiden Jahren, in denen Fotofestiwal sie beherbergte.

Zusätzlich werden die Fototage in Odesa im Namen von Kateryna Radchencko einen Vortrag über die Rolle der Volksfotografie während des Krieges in der Ukraine präsentieren.

Und der Monat der Fotografie in Minsk wird sich mit einem Vortrag und einer Diskussion über die Lebenssituation in Weißrussland und die Frage beteiligen, inwieweit die künstlerischen Praktiken im gegenwärtigen Kontext einen Raum für ihre Existenz und Manifestation finden.

La première exposition de photos pour enfants en Pologne et les premières de projets de Weronika Gęsicka, Przemek Dzienis, Magda Hueckel et Grzegorz Wełnicki - voilà quelques-uns des points forts de Fotofestiwal qui se déroule une fois de plus à Łódź du 13 au 23 juin 2024.

La 23e édition de Fotofestiwal se tiendra dans toute la ville de Łódź et, comme les années précédentes, elle vous invitera à regarder les paysages de la photographie contemporaine polonaise et internationale. La majorité des projets exposés dans le centre du festival seront présentés en Pologne pour la première et unique fois pendant Fotofestiwal. Outre les 29 projets photographiques, le programme du festival comprend de nombreux événements, concerts, projections de films et rencontres professionnelles.

I - Quatre premières d'artistes polonais, qui sont au cœur du programme de cette année.

Weronika Gęsicka présentera ses nouvelles créations. Dans son projet ENCYCLOPAEDIA, elle vous parlera de quelques exemples particulièrement intéressants de personnes et de phénomènes inexistants qui ont acquis une reconnaissance mondiale grâce à des erreurs et à de fausses entrées dans diverses encyclopédies et lexiques. Son projet précédent, Traces, qui lui a valu une reconnaissance mondiale, consistait en des collages sans couture de vieilles photos américaines des années 1950 et 1960. Cette fois, elle a décidé de développer son projet en utilisant des photos d'archives et des outils d'intelligence artificielle. Son travail sera exposé dans la galerie Re:Medium en collaboration avec la galerie JEDNOSTKA.

Przemek Dzienis est connu pour ses photographies conceptuelles que l'on peut retrouver dans l'affiche de Paris Photo 2010, sélectionnée en raison de sa forme visuelle unique et de sa combinaison avec l'installation et la sculpture. Après une longue absence sur la scène artistique, il a préparé un projet spécialement pour Fotofestiwal. Il s'agit de sa première œuvre centrée sur des objets spatiaux. Dobry Żal/Good Regret est une réflexion subversive sur les souvenirs qui passent. Les enregistrements des souvenirs sont transformés en images, puis en objets aux structures fascinantes, aux formes corporelles et aux sons déformés. L'exposition sera présentée à Kamienica Hilarego Majewskiego, la plus récente institution artistique de Lodz.

Magda Hueckel est une artiste visuelle, une réalisatrice et une photographe de théâtre. Elle contribuera à la discussion sur la représentation du corps féminin dans la culture polonaise en préparant une série de collages à partir d'images provenant d'archives photographiques et de journaux.

Grzegorz Wełnicki (Rats Agency, Archive of Public Protests) conclura le chapitre de 13 ans de son travail artistique axé sur le thème de la mort par une exposition individuelle à la galerie de l'école de cinéma de Lodz.

II - Fotofestiwal pour les enfants

Fotografia jest wszędzie/Photographie est partout, une exposition dédiée aux enfants, sera présentée pour la première fois à Łódź. Nous nous poserons des questions intéressantes : À quoi ressemblerait le monde si la photographie n'avait jamais été inventée ? Que connaîtrions-nous sans les photos ? Les commissaires de l'exposition (Marta Szymańska, Katarzyna Sagatowska et Monika Szewczyk-Wittek) nous présenteront des œuvres d'artistes accomplis, tels que Carolle Benitah, Karolina Jonderko, Kacper Kowalski, Gabriele Galimberti et bien d'autres, dans un tout nouveau contexte.

III - Les stars de la photographie internationale parlent de libération

"Nous veillons toujours non seulement à montrer des photos et à mettre en lumière les personnalités uniques qui se cachent derrière elles, mais aussi à nous interroger sur ce qu'est la photographie", explique Marta Szymańska, membre du conseil d'administration du programme Fotofestiwal. "Cette année, nous nous intéressons de plus près aux histoires de nombreux auteurs pour qui la photographie est devenue un moyen de faire face à l'adversité et aux expériences difficiles. Nous accueillons également des œuvres moins intimes, dans lesquelles les créateurs utilisent l'imagerie pour parler de transformation et de libération des normes rigides telles que le patriarcat ou la religion". La libération est le motif principal qui relie les six expositions individuelles d'artistes internationaux présentées dans le centre principal du festival.

Martin Kollar est l'un des photographes slovaques contemporains les plus remarquables. Il a utilisé ses propres archives photographiques pour parler de l'expérience de la mort d'un être cher et aimé. Le projet After, touchant et audacieux, est le résultat de ce processus. Un autre artiste dont les œuvres seront exposées est Gloria Oyarzabal, lauréate du Grand Prix Fotofestiwal 2020. La photographe espagnole s'intéresse au thème de l'héritage colonial de l'Occident. Cette année, elle se concentrera sur le rôle oppressif que jouent les musées dans la culture internationale. Diego Moreno apporte avec lui le recul, le sens de l'humour et le style percutant qui ont fait les beaux jours de la scène internationale ces dernières années (par exemple, le prestigieux Foam Talent 2022). Il attirera notre attention sur le poids et l'influence du christianisme dans la culture mexicaine. L'artiste suisse Lukas Hoffman revient aux racines de la photographie dans ses magnifiques images abstraites. Ses créations invitent le public à prendre un moment de contemplation et à se libérer de l'agitation quotidienne.

IV - L'Albanie, la Bosnie et les pays qui n'existent plus - les sujets photographiques les plus intéressants de la saison dans l'appel ouvert

L'appel ouvert est une autre partie de l'examen de la scène photographique internationale et comprend six projets choisis parmi 1200 candidatures. Dans cette section, les artistes aborderont des sujets tels que l'histoire compliquée et difficile du régime albanais (The Great Father de Camilla de Maffei) ou l'histoire de la Bosnie-Herzégovine d'après-guerre (The Real Edges d'Adrien Selbert). An Atlas of Countries That Don't Exist est un projet du duo artistique italien Lavinia Parlamenti et Manfredi Pantanell, qui s'intéresse à cinq régions dont l'indépendance et l'identité n'ont pas été reconnues au niveau international.

V - Présence de l'Ukraine et de la Biélorussie, en tant qu'amis chers du festival.

La présence de l'Ukraine et de la Biélorussie aura lieu cette année dans le cadre d'une exposition de livres de photos, ce qui donne aux deux festivals un format différent par rapport aux deux dernières années, lorsque Fotofestiwal les a accueillis.

Par ailleurs, à Odessa, les Journées de la photo, organisées par Kateryna Radchencko, nous présenteront une conférence sur le rôle de la photographie vernaculaire pendant la guerre en Ukraine.

Le Mois de la photo de Minsk participera au programme avec une présentation et une discussion sur la situation au Belarus et sur la manière dont les pratiques artistiques trouvent un espace pour exister et se manifester dans le contexte actuel.

La prima mostra fotografica per bambini in Polonia e le anteprime dei progetti di Weronika Gęsicka, Przemek Dzienis, Magda Hueckel e Grzegorz Wełnicki: questi sono alcuni dei punti salienti di Fotofestiwal, che si terrà ancora una volta a Łódź dal 13 al 23 giugno 2024.

La 23esima edizione di Fotofestiwal si svolgerà in tutta la città di Łódź e, come negli anni precedenti, vi inviterà a guardare i paesaggi della fotografia contemporanea polacca e internazionale. Przemek Dzienis è noto per la sua fotografia concettuale che si potrebbe conoscere dal poster di Parigi 2010, selezionato per la sua forma visiva unica e la combinazione con installazioni e sculture. Dopo una lunga assenza dalla scena artistica, ha preparato un progetto appositamente per Fotofestiwal. Sarà il suo primo lavoro incentrato su oggetti spaziali. Dobry Żal/Good Regret è una riflessione sovversiva sui ricordi che passano. Le registrazioni dei ricordi sono trasformate in immagini e poi in oggetti con strutture affascinanti, forme simili a corpi e suoni distorti. La mostra sarà presentata a Kamienica Hilarego Majewskiego, la più recente istituzione artistica di Lodz.

Magda Hueckel è un'artista visiva, regista e fotografa teatrale. Contribuirà alla discussione sulla rappresentazione del corpo femminile nella cultura polacca preparando una serie di collage con immagini tratte da archivi fotografici e giornali.

Grzegorz Wełnicki (Rats Agency, Archive of Public Protests) concluderà il capitolo del suo lavoro artistico, durato 13 anni e incentrato sul tema della morte, con una mostra personale presso la galleria della Lodz Film School.

II - Fotofestiwal per bambini

Fotografia jest wszędzie/Photography is Everywhere, una mostra dedicata ai bambini, sarà presentata in anteprima a Łódź. Ci porremo alcune domande interessanti: Come sarebbe il mondo se la fotografia non fosse mai stata inventata? Cosa non sapremmo mai senza le foto? Le curatrici della mostra (Marta Szymańska, Katarzyna Sagatowska e Monika Szewczyk-Wittek) ci mostreranno le opere di artisti affermati come Carolle Benitah, Karolina Jonderko, Kacper Kowalski, Gabriele Galimberti e molti altri, in un contesto del tutto nuovo.

III - Le stelle della fotografia internazionale parlano di liberazione

"Facciamo sempre in modo non solo di mostrare le foto e di mettere in luce le personalità uniche che ci sono dietro, ma anche di chiederci che cos'è la fotografia", afferma Marta Szymańska, membro del consiglio di amministrazione di Fotofestiwal. "Quest'anno guardiamo con attenzione alle storie di molti autori per i quali la fotografia è diventata un modo per affrontare le avversità e le esperienze difficili. Accogliamo anche opere meno intime, in cui i creatori usano le immagini per parlare di trasformazione e di liberazione da norme rigide come il patriarcato o la religione". La liberazione è il motivo principale che collega le sei mostre individuali di artisti internazionali presentate nel centro principale del festival.

Martin Kollar è uno dei più noti fotografi slovacchi contemporanei. Ha utilizzato il proprio archivio fotografico per raccontare l'esperienza della morte di una persona cara. Il toccante e audace progetto After è il risultato di questo processo. Un'altra artista le cui opere saranno esposte è Gloria Oyarzabal, vincitrice del Grand Prix Fotofestiwal 2020. La fotografa spagnola è interessata al tema dell'eredità coloniale dell'Occidente. Quest'anno si concentrerà sul ruolo oppressivo dei musei nella cultura internazionale. Diego Moreno porta con sé la prospettiva, il senso dell'umorismo e lo stile duro che hanno deliziato la scena internazionale negli ultimi anni (ad esempio, il prestigioso Foam Talent 2022). Egli punterà la nostra attenzione sulle sfumature cristiane e sui fardelli della cultura messicana. IV - Albania, Bosnia e Paesi che non esistono più: i temi fotografici più interessanti della stagione nell'Open Call

L'Open Call è un'altra parte della rassegna della scena fotografica internazionale e comprende sei progetti scelti tra 1200 candidature. In questa sezione, gli artisti parleranno di argomenti come la complicata e difficile storia del regime albanese (The Great Father di Camilla de Maffei) o la storia della Bosnia-Erzegovina del dopoguerra (The Real Edges di Adrien Selbert). L'Atlante dei Paesi che non esistono è un progetto del duo artistico italiano Lavinia Parlamenti e Manfredi Pantanell, che analizza cinque regioni la cui indipendenza e identità non sono state riconosciute a livello internazionale.

V - Presenza dell'Ucraina e della Bielorussia, come cari amici del festival.

Sia l'Ucraina che la Bielorussia saranno presenti quest'anno con una mostra di libri fotografici, che inquadra entrambi i festival in un formato diverso rispetto agli ultimi due anni, quando Fotofestiwal li ha ospitati.

Inoltre, a Odesa, Photo days, nel nome di Kateryna Radchencko, ci presenterà una conferenza sul ruolo della fotografia vernacolare durante la guerra in Ucraina.

Il Mese della Fotografia di Minsk parteciperà al programma con una presentazione e una discussione sulla situazione di vita in Bielorussia e su quanto le pratiche artistiche trovino spazio per esistere e manifestarsi nel contesto attuale.

The first photo exhibition for children in Poland and premieres of projects by Weronika Gęsicka, Przemek Dzienis, Magda Hueckel and Grzegorz Wełnicki – these are some of the highlights of Fotofestiwal that once again takes place in Łódź from 13 to 23 June 2024.

The 23rd edition of Fotofestiwal will be held all over the city of Łódź and like in previous years, it will invite you to look at the landscapes of both Polish and international contemporary photography. The majority of projects exhibited in the festival centre will be presented in Poland for the first and only time during Fotofestiwal. Apart from the 29 photo projects, the festival program includes many events, concerts, film screenings, and industry meetings.

I - Four premieres by Polish artists, which are the focus of this year’s program.

Weronika Gęsicka will present her newest creations. In her project ENCYCLOPAEDIA, she will tell you about some particularly interesting examples of non-existing people and phenomena gaining worldwide recognition due to errors and fake entries in various encyclopaedias and lexicons. Her previous project Traces, which brought her worldwide acclaim, comprised seamless collages of old American photos from the 1950’s and 1960’s. This time, she’s decided to develop her project utilising stock photos and AI tools. Her work will be exhibited in the Re:Medium Gallery in collaboration with the JEDNOSTKA Gallery.

Przemek Dzienis is known for his conceptual photography that one might know from the 2010 Paris Photo poster, selected due to its unique visual form and combination with installation and sculpture. After long lasting absence on an artistic scene, he prepared a project specially for Fotofestiwal. It will be his first work that is centred on spatial objects. Dobry Żal/Good Regret is a subversive reflection on passing memories. The records of memories are transformed into images, and then into objects with fascinating structures, body-like shapes, and distorted sounds. The exhibition will be presented in Kamienica Hilarego Majewskiego, the newest art institution in Lodz.

Magda Hueckel is a visual artist, director, and theatre photographer. She will contribute to the discussion concerning the portrayal of female body in Polish culture by preparing a series of collages using images from photo archives and newspapers.

Grzegorz Wełnicki (Rats Agency, Archive of Public Protests) will conclude the 13-year long chapter of his artistic work focused on the topic of death with an individual exhibition at the Lodz Film School’s gallery.

III - Stars of international photography talk about liberation.

"We always make sure not only to show photos and spotlight the unique personalities behind them, but also to wonder what photography all about is," says Marta Szymańska, member of the Fotofestiwal Program Board. "This year, we are taking a closer look at the stories of many authors for whom photography has become a way to cope with adversity and difficult experiences. We also welcome less intimate works, where the creators use imagery to talk about transformation and breaking free from stiff norms such as patriarchy or religion.” Liberation is the main motif that connects the six individual exhibitions of international artists presented in the main festival centre.

Martin Kollar is one of the most noteworthy contemporary Slovakian photographers. He used his own photo archive to talk about the experience of someone dear and loved dying. The touching and bold project After is the result of that process. Another artist whose works will be exhibited is Gloria Oyarzabal, a Grand Prix Fotofestiwal 2020 laureate. The Spanish photographer is interested in the topic of colonial legacy of the West. This year, she will focus on the oppressive role museums play in international culture. Diego Moreno brings with him the perspective, the sense of humour and the hard-hitting style which have delighted the international scene in recent years (e.g., the prestigious Foam Talent 2022). He will point our attention to the Christian undertones and burdens of Mexican culture. Swiss artist Lukas Hoffman returns to the roots of photography in his beautiful, abstract images. His creations invite the audience to take a moment for steady contemplation and liberation from the daily hustle and bustle.

IV - Albania, Bosnia, and the countries that no longer exist – the most interesting photographic topics of the season in the Open Call

The Open Call is another part of the review of the international photography scene and includes six projects chosen out of 1200 entries. In this section, artists will talk about such matters as the complicated and difficult history of the Albanian regime (Camilla de Maffei’s the Great Father) or the story of postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina (Adrien Selbert’s The Real Edges). An Atlas of Countries That Don’t Exist is a project by the Italian artistic duo Lavinia Parlamenti and Manfredi Pantanell, that looks at five regions whose independence and identity have not been internationally recognised.

V - Ukraine and Belarus presence, as dear friends of the festival.

Both Ukraine and Belarus presence will be held this year in a photobook exhibition., which frames both festivals in a different format comparatively to the last two years, when Fotofestiwal hosted them.

Additionally Odesa, Photo days, in the name of Kateryna Radchencko, will introduce us to a lecture on the role of vernacular photography during the war in Ukraine.

And Month of Photography in Minsk will take part in the programme with a presentation and discussion about the living situation in Belarus and to what extend do the artistic practices find a space to exist and manifest in the present context.

HOPE: Im Festivalzentrum des Art_Inkubator werden Ausstellungen aus dem Hope-Programm präsentiert. Dabei handelt es sich um internationale Projekte, die uns dazu ermutigen, inspirierende Menschen, mutige Künstler, starke Gemeinschaften und die Aktionen, die sie gegen die gängigen, fatalistischen Erzählungen über unsere Realität unternehmen, näher zu betrachten. Die Worte der amerikanischen Schriftstellerin und Aktivistin Rebecca Solnit haben uns inspiriert: Hoffnung fordert zum Handeln auf; Handeln ist ohne Hoffnung unmöglich. Wir haben Kuratoren und Künstler eingeladen, mit uns zusammenzuarbeiten und sieben Gruppen- und Einzelausstellungen zu gestalten. Die meisten von ihnen wurden speziell für das 22. Fotofestiwal konzipiert und zeigen verschiedene Formen des Widerstands, der Unterstützung und der Zusammenarbeit in Ost- und Westeuropa, Südamerika und im Nahen Osten. Die Ausstellungen, die das diesjährige Festivalthema widerspiegeln, sind Kunstprojekte, die unseren Blick auf die zeitgenössische Welt verändern und beweisen, dass wir selbst in Zeiten tiefster Dunkelheit und in den Rissen der Ungewissheit einige verborgene positive Skripte entwickeln können. Das Programm wird von Marta Szymańska und Krzysztof Candrowicz von Fotofestiwal geleitet.

HIGHLIGHTS: Das Programm umfasst auch mehrere Ausstellungen, die nicht mit dem Hauptthema zusammenhängen, darunter AREA: ART ON THE DANCEFLOOR. Warhol, Basquiat und Co. Die großformatigen, dynamischen und gewagten Fotografien von Volker Hinz laden dazu ein, die Geschichte des Nachtclubs kennenzulernen, der in den 1980er Jahren New Yorks Lower Manhattan zum Leuchten brachte. Alle sechs Wochen verwandelte sich der Club auf spektakuläre Weise, und die Besucher waren eingeladen, sich passend zu immer neuen Mottos wie "Food", "Fashion" oder "Faith" zu verkleiden. In diesen Fotografien werden wir einige der Stars der damaligen Weltkunstszene wiederentdecken, darunter Warhol, Basquiat, Madonna und Grace Jones, direkt neben jedem Mann, der sich für eine spektakuläre Nacht in eine andere Person verwandelte.

Die Premiere neuer Fotografien von Zbigniew Libera, die speziell für diese Ausgabe von Fotofestiwal entstanden sind, wird ein starker Höhepunkt des Programms sein. "Die Ausstellung in der Galeria Wschodnia markiert die Rückkehr des Künstlers nach Łódź, einer Stadt, mit der sein Werk seit seiner Zugehörigkeit zur Gruppe Kultura Zrzuty verbunden ist", sagt Daniel Muzyczuk, Kurator der Ausstellung. "Ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt dieser Rückkehr ist der Ort. Schließlich ist Wschodnia der legendäre Ort der unabhängigen Galeriebewegung und die letzte nichtkommerzielle Kunstgalerie der Stadt, die Anfang der 1980er Jahre gegründet wurde."

Eine weitere große Einzelausstellung wird die Werke von Grzegorz Przyborek zeigen, einem in Łódź lebenden Künstler, der in Polen und im Ausland sehr geschätzt wird. Es wird ein Rückblick auf sein gesamtes künstlerisches Schaffen sein, angefangen von den ersten Schritten in Lodz und Arles (Frankreich) bis hin zu seinen jüngsten Werken, die bisher noch nirgendwo gezeigt wurden. Die retrospektive Ausstellung mit dem Titel Silence wird in der Städtischen Kunstgalerie in Łódź - Zentrum für Kunstpropaganda [Miejska Galeria Sztuki w Łodzi - Ośrodek Propagandy Sztuki] präsentiert.

MINSK UND ODESSA IN ŁÓDŹ: Auch in diesem Jahr haben wir die Kuratoren unserer beiden befreundeten Fotofestivals, des Monats der Fotografie in Minsk (Weißrussland) und der Odesa Photo Days (Ukraine), eingeladen, mit uns am Programm zu arbeiten. Da diese beiden Veranstaltungen aus politischen Gründen nicht in ihren jeweiligen Ländern stattfinden können, bereiten wir einen riesigen Raum im Herzen des postindustriellen Łódź vor, den OFF Piotrkowska-Komplex, in dem unter anderem die Werke belarussischer und ukrainischer Künstler präsentiert werden.

Hier wird eine Ausstellung zu sehen sein, die einen Überblick über die sozialen und politischen Veränderungen sowie die Proteste in der Ukraine, Georgien, Iran, Kasachstan und Kirgisistan in den letzten 30 Jahren gibt. #inbetweenland wird über den spezifischen Schwebezustand sprechen, in dem sich ein Teil der belarussischen Gesellschaft befindet.

DIE AUSSTELLUNG ZEIGT DAS BESTE DER ZEITGENÖSSISCHEN FOTOGRAFIE: Darüber hinaus bietet das Offene Programm von Fotofestiwal einen Überblick über die interessantesten Phänomene der zeitgenössischen Fotografie. Es umfasst sechs Projekte, die von der internationalen Jury aus Tausenden von Einreichungen aus aller Welt ausgewählt wurden. Dieses Schaufenster - eine wirklich beeindruckende visuelle Zusammenstellung von Projekten - berührt eine Vielzahl von Themen: die Realität in den Ländern des Persischen Golfs, die Einstellung des Menschen zum Wasser in Sierra Leone und das Leben und die Probleme der Küstengemeinden in Kolumbien.

In einer speziellen Diashow von Talent Futures werden Projekte vorgestellt, die dem zeitgenössischen Europa nahe stehen: Ihar Hancharuks Untersuchung des Phänomens der Militärpropaganda, das in Weißrussland seit Jahren zu beobachten ist, die Projekte von Lisa Bukreyeva und Marcin Kruk über den Krieg in der Ukraine sowie Kinga Wronas Fotoserie über den Ausbruch des Vulkans Cumbre Vieja auf der Insel La Palma. Die Diashow und die Gruppenausstellung mit dem Titel On the Verge, die Teil des Hope-Programms sind, wurden dank der Zusammenarbeit von Fotofestiwal mit Futures Photography, einer internationalen Plattform, die fast zwanzig fotografische Institutionen aus ganz Europa verbindet, realisiert.

UND VIEL MEHR: Während der zehn Festivaltage wird das Publikum auch eingeladen, Präsentationen von Fotobüchern und Ausstellungen zu besuchen, die von Partnergalerien organisiert werden, darunter eine Bogdan Konopka gewidmete Gruppenausstellung in der Galerie der Łódź Photographic Society (ŁTF) und die gemeinsam mit dem Museum der Stadt Łódź realisierte Retrospektive von Chris Niedenthal. Wie immer wird das Programm auch Filmvorführungen, Diskussionen und Konzerte umfassen.

HOPE : Dans le Centre des festivals d'Art_Inkubator, des expositions du programme Hope seront présentées. Il s'agit de projets internationaux qui nous encouragent à regarder de plus près des personnes inspirantes, des artistes audacieux, des communautés puissantes et les actions qu'ils entreprennent en défiant les récits communs et fatalistes sur notre réalité. Les mots de l'écrivaine et activiste américaine Rebecca Solnit nous ont inspirés : l'espoir appelle l'action ; l'action est impossible sans espoir. Nous avons invité des conservateurs et des artistes à travailler avec nous et à créer sept expositions collectives et individuelles. La première des nouvelles photographies de Zbigniew Libera, créées spécialement pour cette édition de Fotofestiwal, sera un point fort du programme. "L'exposition à la Galeria Wschodnia marque le retour de l'artiste à Łódź, une ville à laquelle son travail est lié depuis qu'il fait partie du groupe Kultura Zrzuty", explique Daniel Muzyczuk, commissaire de l'exposition. "Un autre aspect important de ce retour est le lieu. MINSK ET ODESSA EN ŁÓDŹ : Cette année encore, nous avons invité les commissaires de nos deux festivals de photographie amis, le Mois de la photo de Minsk (Biélorussie) et les Journées de la photo d'Odessa (Ukraine), à collaborer avec nous sur le programme. Ces deux événements ne pouvant être organisés dans leurs pays respectifs pour des raisons politiques, nous préparons un immense espace au cœur de la ville post-industrielle de Łódź, le complexe OFF Piotrkowska, pour présenter les œuvres d'artistes biélorusses et ukrainiens, entre autres.

Nous y trouverons une exposition qui montre un résumé des changements sociaux et politiques, ainsi que des activités de protestation en Ukraine, en Géorgie, en Iran, au Kazakhstan et au Kirghizistan au cours des 30 dernières années. L'exposition #inbetweenland parlera de l'état de suspension spécifique dans lequel se trouve une partie de la société biélorusse.

LE MEILLEUR DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE CONTEMPORAINE : En outre, le programme ouvert de Fotofestiwal offre un aperçu des phénomènes les plus intéressants de la photographie contemporaine. Il comprend six projets sélectionnés par le jury international parmi des milliers de candidatures provenant du monde entier. La prima delle nuove fotografie di Zbigniew Libera, create appositamente per questa edizione di Fotofestiwal, sarà un punto forte del programma. "La mostra alla Galeria Wschodnia segna il ritorno dell'artista a Łódź, città a cui il suo lavoro è legato da quando è entrato a far parte del gruppo Kultura Zrzuty", afferma Daniel Muzyczuk, curatore della mostra. HOPE: In the Festival Centre at Art_Inkubator, exhibitions from the Hope program will be presented. These are international projects that encourage us to look closer at inspiring people, bold artists, powerful communities and the actions they take in defiance of common, fatalistic narratives about our reality. The words of American writer and activist Rebecca Solnit have inspired us: hope calls for action; action is impossible without hope. We have invited curators and artists to work with us and create seven group and individual exhibitions. Most of them have been designed especially for the 22nd Fotofestiwal and depict various forms of resistance, support, and cooperation in Eastern and Western Europe, South America, and Middle East. The exhibitions that have been put together to reflect this year’s Festival theme are art projects that change the way we look at the contemporary world and prove that even in the times of the deepest darkness and in the cracks of uncertainty, we can develop some hidden positive scripts. The club used to undergo a spectacular transformation every six weeks, and its visitors were invited to dress up to match ever new mottos such as “Food”, “Fashion” or “Faith”. In these photographs, we will rediscover some of the stars of the world art scene of that time, including Warhol, Basquiat, Madonna and Grace Jones, right next to every man transforming into someone else for one spectacular night.

The premiere of new photographs by Zbigniew Libera, created especially for this edition of Fotofestiwal, will be a strong highlight of the program. “The exhibition at Galeria Wschodnia marks the artist’s return to Łódź, a city to which his work has been linked since he became a part of the Kultura Zrzuty group,” says Daniel Muzyczuk, curator of the exhibition. “Another important aspect of this return is the location. After all, Wschodnia is the legendary space of the independent gallery movement and the city’s last non-commercial art gallery established in the early 1980s.”

Another major solo exhibition will present the works of Grzegorz Przyborek, a Łódź-based artist, much appreciated in Poland and abroad. It will be a review of his entire artistic output, starting from the first steps in Łódź and in Arles, France, to his most recent works, which have not been shown anywhere else yet. THE BEST OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY: Moreover, Fotofestiwal’s Open Program offers an overview of the most interesting phenomena in contemporary photography. It includes six projects selected by the international jury from thousands of submissions from all over the world. This showcase – a truly impressive visual set of projects – touches upon a variety of issues: the reality of the Persian Gulf countries, man’s attitude towards water in Sierra Leone, and the life and problems of the coastal communities in Colombia.

A special Talent Futures slideshow will feature projects that are close to contemporary Europe: Ihar Hancharuk’s research into the phenomenon of military propaganda that has been present in Belarus for years now, Lisa Bukreyeva’s and Marcin Kruk’s projects on the war in Ukraine, as well as Kinga Wrona’s series of photographs about the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma. The slideshow and group exhibition titled On the Verge, a part of the Hope Program, have been created thanks to Fotofestiwal’s collaboration with Futures Photography, an international platform connecting almost twenty photographic institutions from all around Europe.

AND MUCH MORE: During the ten days of the Festival, the audience will be also invited to attend presentations of photography books and exhibitions organised by partner galleries, including a group exhibition dedicated to Bogdan Konopka at the Gallery of the Łódź Photographic Society (ŁTF), and Chris Niedenthal’s retrospective exhibition made together with the Museum of the City of Łódź. As always, the program will also include film screenings, discussions and concerts.

The key visual of this year’s edition was prepared by Kaja Kaja “mlode studio” and Dominik Murzyn. Photos selected for posters was made by Marisya Myanovska, Ugo Woatzi and Ritual Inhabitual Collective.
