Das Buch Brancusi ou l'anonymat du génie wurde erstmals 1967 bei Éditions Méridiane in Bukarest veröffentlicht. Als Hommage an das Werk des rumänischen Bildhauers präsentiert es mehr als hundert Fotografien von Dan Er Grigorescu, fasziniert von der Kunst dieses Meisters der Moderne. Im Sinne des Formats der Erstausgabe greift dieses Buch auf das außergewöhnliche Archiv des Fotografen zurück, der in seinem Atelier die berühmten Skulpturen Brancusis sowie das monumentale Ensemble von Târgu Jiu, einer kleinen Stadt im Mittelwesten Rumäniens, dokumentiert hat. Die hochgrafische Raumvision, das Wechselspiel von Licht und Schatten, das Eintauchen in die Materie und die Nüchternheit der Bilder von Grigorescu stellen die plastische Abstraktion der Skulpturen von Brancusi wieder her.
Ein Text von Julie Jones beleuchtet diese Begegnung zwischen den beiden Künstlern, während die von Calin Dan und Dan Haulica einen kritischen Blick auf Brancusis Werke werfen.
L’ouvrage Brancusi ou l’anonymat du génie paraît pour la première fois en 1967 aux éditions Méridiane, à Bucarest. Hommage à l’œuvre du sculpteur roumain, il présente plus d’une centaine de photographies réalisées par Dan Er Grigorescu, fasciné par l’art de ce maître de la modernité. Dans l'esprit du format de la première édition, le présent ouvrage a puisé dans les archives exceptionnelles du photographe qui documenta les célèbres sculptures de Brancusi dans son atelier ainsi que celles de l’ensemble monumental de Târgu Jiu, petite ville du centre-ouest de la Roumanie. La vision très graphique de l’espace, les jeux d’ombre et de lumière, la plongée dans la matière et la sobriété des images de Grigorescu restituent l’abstraction plastique des sculptures de Brancusi.
Un texte de Julie Jones nous éclaire sur cette rencontre entre les deux artistes tandis que ceux de Calin Dan et Dan Haulica apportent un regard critique sur les œuvres de Brancusi.
The publication Brancusi ou l’anonymat du génie was published for the first time in 1967 by Méridiane publisher in Bucarest. A tribute to the Romanian sculptor, the book features over a hundred of photographs made by Dan Er Grigorescu, fascinated by the work of this master of modernity. In the same spirit of the first edition, this new monograph has drawn from the photographer’s exceptional archive, a documentation of Brancusi’s iconic sculptures in his studio and from the monumental ensemble of Târgu Jiu, a small town of western central Romania. Grigorescu’s graphic and sober vision, with a particular focus on textures as well as on interplays of light and shadow, render the abstracted quality of Brancusi’s sculptures.
An essay by Julie Jones shed light on the encounter between these two artists while the texts by Calin Dan and Dan Haulica give a critical perspective on Brancusi’s work.
