Internationale Fotokünstler:innen arbeiten zu vier Kölner Archiven – die Ausstellungen im Artist Meets Archive Programm der Internationalen Photoszene Köln stehen fest.
Ein Symposium zu dem zweijährigen künstlerischen Forschungsprojekt am Auftaktwochenende des Photoszene-Festivals im Mai bringt Wissenschaft und Kunst zusammen.
Zum dritten Mal seit 2019 zeigt die Internationale Photoszene Köln zusammen mit vier Kölner Institutionen ab dem 12. Mai 2023 Ausstellungen von vier Künstler:innen zum Residenz- und Kooperationsprojekt Artist Meets Archive #3. Das Programm bringt die fotografischen Bestände Kölner Archive und Sammlungen in den Fokus und lädt international agierende Künstler:innen zum Austausch ein. Nach einer rund zweijährigen Arbeits- und Recherchephase im NS-Dokumentationszentrum, am Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, am Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst und am Rheinischen Bildarchiv stehen die vier Ausstellungen und Interventionen von Naoya Hatakeyama, Lebohang Kganye, Pablo Lerma und Lilly Lulay jetzt fest.
Die Künstler:innen 2023 verbindet, jeweils ausgehend von dem fotohistorischen Material, mit dem sie in den Archiven gearbeitet haben, die Auseinandersetzung mit den verschiedenen Spielarten der Sichtbarkeit im Medium Fotografie. Sie reicht von einer weiblichen Perspektive (#femalegaze) auf koloniale Kontexte bis hin zum touristischen Blick (#touristgaze), der sich im kollektiven Bildgedächtnis festschreibt. Sie erkundet, in welchem Verhältnis das künstliche Sehen (#algorithmicgaze) eines Bilderkennungsprogramms zum menschlichen Sehen steht. Und verweist schließlich auch darauf, wie der Blick der Macht (#gazeofpower) dafür sorgt, was in Fotografien und den sie beherbergenden Archiven im Verborgenen bleibt.

Un symposium sur le projet de recherche artistique de deux ans, organisé le week-end d'ouverture du festival Photoszene en mai, réunira la science et l'art.
Pour la troisième fois depuis 2019, l'Internationale Photoszene Köln présente, en collaboration avec quatre institutions de Cologne, des expositions de quatre artistes à partir du 12 mai 2023 dans le cadre du projet de résidence et de coopération Artist Meets Archive #3. Le programme met en avant les fonds photographiques des archives et collections de Cologne et invite des artistes actifs au niveau international à échanger leurs idées. Après une phase de travail et de recherche d'environ deux ans au NS-Dokumentationszentrum, au Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, au Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst et au Rheinischen Bildarchiv, les quatre expositions et interventions de Naoya Hatakeyama, Lebohang Kganye, Pablo Lerma et Lilly Lulay sont désormais connues.
Les artistes 2023 ont en commun de se pencher sur les différentes formes de visibilité dans le médium photographique, en partant du matériel photo-historique avec lequel ils ont travaillé dans les archives. Elle va d'une perspective féminine (#femalegaze) sur des contextes coloniaux à un regard touristique (#touristgaze) qui s'inscrit dans la mémoire collective des images. Elle explore le rapport entre la vision artificielle (#algorithmicgaze) d'un programme de reconnaissance d'images et la vision humaine. Enfin, elle évoque la manière dont le regard du pouvoir (#gazeofpower) veille à ce que les photographies et les archives qui les abritent restent cachées.

Un simposio sul progetto di ricerca artistica biennale nel fine settimana di apertura del Photoszene Festival a maggio riunisce scienza e arte.
Per la terza volta dal 2019, l'International Photoscene Cologne, insieme a quattro istituzioni di Colonia, esporrà le mostre di quattro artisti a partire dal 12 maggio 2023 nell'ambito del progetto di residenza e cooperazione Artist Meets Archive #3. Il programma mette a fuoco il patrimonio fotografico degli archivi e delle collezioni di Colonia e invita gli artisti attivi a livello internazionale a scambiare idee. Dopo circa due anni di lavoro e ricerca presso il NS-Dokumentationszentrum, il Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, il Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst e il Rheinisches Bildarchiv, le quattro mostre e gli interventi di Naoya Hatakeyama, Lebohang Kganye, Pablo Lerma e Lilly Lulay sono stati ultimati.
Basandosi sul materiale storico-fotografico degli archivi, gli artisti di 2023 sono accomunati dall'esame dei diversi modi in cui la visibilità si esprime nel mezzo fotografico. Si va dalla prospettiva femminile (#femalegaze) sui contesti coloniali allo sguardo turistico (#touristgaze), che si radica nella memoria pittorica collettiva. Esplora il rapporto tra la visione artificiale (#algorithmicgaze) di un programma di riconoscimento delle immagini e la visione umana. Infine, sottolinea come lo sguardo del potere (#gazeofpower) garantisca ciò che rimane nascosto nelle fotografie e negli archivi che le ospitano.

For the third time since 2019, the International Photoscene Cologne, together with four Cologne institutions, will present exhibitions by four artists from May 12, 2023, on the residency and cooperation project Artist Meets Archive #3. The program brings the photographic holdings of Cologne archives and collections into focus and invites internationally active artists to exchange ideas. After about two years of work and research at the NS-Dokumentationszentrum, the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst and the Rheinisches Bildarchiv, the four exhibitions and interventions by Naoya Hatakeyama, Lebohang Kganye, Pablo Lerma and Lilly Lulay have now been finalized.
Based in each case on the photo-historical material they have worked with in the archives, Künstler:innen 2023 combines an examination of the various varieties of visibility in the medium of photography. It ranges from a female perspective (#femalegaze) on colonial contexts to the tourist gaze (#touristgaze) that becomes entrenched in collective pictorial memory. She explores how the artificial vision (#algorithmicgaze) of an image recognition program relates to human vision. And finally, it also points out how the gaze of power (#gazeofpower) ensures what remains hidden in photographs and the archives that house them.
